- wingsy, on 10/04/2008, -2/+17An interesting study.Hope it turns out to be as effective in the long run as it sounds.
- jodimcmullen, on 10/04/2008, -1/+8Good stuff, I followed some of the links to even more info. Really informative thanks.
- datajl, on 10/04/2008, -2/+4Dugg. How about abstract thinking versus reality thinking. Which side of the brain does abstract thinking operate out of?.
- Scriabin, on 10/04/2008, -0/+3The lateralization of brain function based on abstract/reality, creative/logic, is popular, but mostly pseudoscience. Both sides of your brain are equal in their functions connecting creative/logic, and while some specific functions are more dominant on either side, both sides need equal contribution for the other side to work, so there is no 'dominant side' to the brain, and nobody is particularly right brained or left brained. If you were 'mostly left or right brain oriented', then you're either mentally handicapped, or your other half is missing/damaged.
- Rowwen, on 10/05/2008, -0/+0Wasn't this in PsyBlog too?

The calorie counting pricks who dream of being able to afford a life coach eat this ***** up like candy. Ohh wait, candy isn't part of a heealy lifestyle and it's bad for children too.- raymendx, on 10/06/2008, -0/+0"We all could use another lifestyle article that teaches us how to be drones incapable of original thoughts or actions. I agree with what you put there. All topics like these remind me of those get a 'bigger penis pills websites' that are all around the Internet except this is for your mind.

- rasde, on 10/04/2008, -2/+3self control is just passive aggressiveness
- palehorse864, on 10/04/2008, -0/+5I agree. You have to shift your paradigm, think of the big picture and set broad, future oriented goals. Conceptualize and sectionalize yor work.
- palehorse864, on 10/04/2008, -0/+4Oops, sorry for that typo in which I omitted the second to last letter in the second to last word.
It could have been worse though. I could have omitted the same letter from the last word and told people they need to "conceptualize and sectionalize" their wok. - Borgcube, on 10/04/2008, -0/+2You.... you're sarcastic in that first post, right? I think you are, but you just can't be sure these days with the sort of people there are today
- palehorse864, on 10/04/2008, -0/+2Heh, indeed I am. The article doesn't present bad advice, but it's all very general. I thought I would be significantly more vague as a way of joking about this. The typo is real though.
- palehorse864, on 10/04/2008, -0/+4Oops, sorry for that typo in which I omitted the second to last letter in the second to last word.
- poogy21, on 10/04/2008, -1/+8I couldn't control my self.. had to digg this one!
- RivenEmrys, on 10/04/2008, -0/+5Great article. It's helpful for me because I'm trying to lose weight and I encounter the "should I eat this" battle far too often. Dugg.
- TheMachine1, on 10/04/2008, -1/+1Interesting article but as someone with high impulsivity I doubt such a person could significantly reduce impulsivity with mere big picture thinking. Impulsivity is pretty much defined as short term, small picture thinking. Since heavy metals exposure like lead can dramatically increase impulsivity in people (and in animals in controlled tests)
and many neurological conditions are associated with increased impulsivity, it suggest a strong neurological basis for impulsivity. So just thinking your way out of that situation is on the order of thinking your way out of Parkinson disease(not likely particularly in more extreme cases). - sx66gns, on 10/04/2008, -0/+6 Nice surprise here on digg , thanks submitter.
- Vodd9, on 10/04/2008, -5/+2No *****?

- GordonFree, on 10/04/2008, -0/+3"New research suggests self-control can be improved using a toothpick and some rubber bands."
Now THAT would be something new! - DroppedGT, on 10/04/2008, -0/+2well to MBTI's INTJs and INTPs this shouldn't be to much of a problem.. actually any xNTx. As for the others, no hope.

- Albumen, on 10/04/2008, -1/+5Will this work on my boner as well?
- cutiewithbooty, on 10/04/2008, -0/+1I didn't have the self control to actually read the whole thing. I'm sure it would have changed my life if I did though.
- skyjis6, on 10/04/2008, -1/+3::OGC:: uhhh, it didn't work
- daveybee, on 10/04/2008, -0/+2looks good, but too long to read now. bookmarked for full reading later - along with about 1000 other articles.

- larryodbc, on 10/07/2008, -0/+0Wall Street and Washington would pay a fortune for that button now!
- Metasquares, on 10/05/2008, -0/+1People think I'm boring and lack spontaneity for having too much self-control. I'm not sure you want that extent of it, whatever the paper says.
- therpi, on 10/05/2008, -0/+0Easy to say, not so to play but it's worthing to try for a better reality.
- Literaturfan, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Good and very interesting article. But I think the explanation of the three strategies is too abract and the majority of readers won't know how to integrate them in their daily life:
# Global processing.
# Abstract reasoning. This means trying to avoid considering the specific details of the situation at hand in favour of thinking about how
# High-level categorisation - larryodbc, on 10/07/2008, -0/+0a good lesson for Wall Street!
