Going on vacation is exciting, but dealing with the logistics of travel is nerve-racking — especially in a foreign country. If you're not prepared for the worst, you could end up stranded for hours, days or worse.

Be sure you have everything you need before giving up your key

Don't take the wrong train — but sometimes it could be harmless

Make sure your hotel is in the right city (and continent)

Don't underestimate airplane turbulence

Stay off of any train you don't plan on riding

Don't get so hung up on security that you accidentally lose access to your own items

Under no circumstance should you speak more than the bare minimum to the TSA

Do not use roaming data in another country unless you're ultra rich

I haven't seen my number one travel tip: PICK THE RIGHT PERSON TO TRAVEL WITH!! I came home from Europe a week early because I was afraid if I stayed there with my up to then good friend one more minute, I was going to murder her. Regardless of relationship, make sure you are compatible. Either you have the same ideas of what to do or you're fine with spending time apart and getting back together to discuss. Make sure the compatibility goes to things like room sharing, budgeting, planning, etc. Seriously, mess this one up and it'll be miserable for everybody.
