- jrepin, on 01/20/2008, -0/+17Great talk! Links to additional videos from the even are available here: http://wadejolson.wordpress.com/2008/01/20/release ...
- keyo, on 01/20/2008, -0/+8Aaron explained the frameworks very well. KDE 4.1 should be great with a lot more being built on those frameworks.
- schestowitz, on 01/20/2008, -3/+8Excellent talk. Who's that guy that introduces Aaron?
- jrepin, on 01/20/2008, -0/+8Adriaan de Groot
- schestowitz, on 01/20/2008, -3/+5Thanks. I never heard of him.
- patpi, on 01/20/2008, -8/+2and you call yourself an linux fan??
- reprehendor, on 01/21/2008, -0/+4patpi,
you need to look more across your little Linux garden fence. Adriaan is KDE e.V.'s Vice President. And no, he's not so much a Linux guy. He's more into BSD and Solaris.
KDE is not just about the Linux Desktop. It is much more. Got it? - oobuntu, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1http://behindkde.org/people/ade/
old but good
- schestowitz, on 01/20/2008, -3/+5Thanks. I never heard of him.
- jrepin, on 01/20/2008, -0/+8Adriaan de Groot
- Darkhacker, on 01/20/2008, -1/+10Aaron Seigo looks very different. He grew out his hair (emo!) and shaved. Take a look at a slightly older pic for comparison. http://www.imagehosting.com/out.php/i1522759_ourne ...
- ooooo, on 01/20/2008, -0/+3lol now thats what he's looked like when i've met him
- allenu, on 01/20/2008, -0/+2Isn't he the same guy from A Flock of Seagulls?
- rexbron, on 01/20/2008, -0/+2Aaron is a great guy, but his eyes in that photo bore into my soul...
- tmanka, on 01/20/2008, -11/+3OMG its a long speech!
- Darkhacker, on 01/20/2008, -1/+14KDE 4 has a lot of new features and technologies. Thus a long speech to go through them all. Besides, 78 minutes really isn't that long of a speech.
- XxbladesfirexX, on 01/20/2008, -0/+13Bravo, KDE 4.0 ftw!
- travbrack, on 01/20/2008, -7/+11That's a distracting haircut
- kyleflan, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1No lie.
- mavX, on 01/20/2008, -12/+3I bet KDE 4.0 is a bombshell but still this keynote was one of the worst i've seen. Too bad. Such a technology deserves more professional introduction...
- muszek, on 01/20/2008, -0/+7I'm half way through and love it so far... maybe because I didn't really follow the topic in depth before and it's simply informative for me.
- shadearg, on 01/20/2008, -13/+1This entire keynote describes roundabout ways of reinventing the exact premise of ActiveX, The problems described are the exact reasons that framework came to exist. The UNIX philosophy of one application that does one task and does it well is being micro-managed here. The open source world is now surveying land that has been hugely criticized for over a decade.
- kreneskyp, on 01/20/2008, -2/+1criticized because it is a closed technology that microsoft refuses to port to other platforms. Though im fairly certain that microsoft already has a version ported and will release it whenever linux gains enough marketshare.
- shadearg, on 01/21/2008, -1/+1I was speaking on the concerns about wide sweeping exploits. The turnover for fixes in the open source world are a lot more rapid, so this may be negligible. I just thought it was worth noting, since no one has mentioned it.

- lhbaker, on 01/20/2008, -11/+7I can't tell from the description. Does this have something to do with KDE?
- dustout, on 01/20/2008, -5/+14man i hate that guys haircut, but aside from that the video was great, alot of content. Better than the mac keynote IMO
- Gecki, on 01/20/2008, -10/+5He's good, but he's no Steve Jobs.
- Balla79, on 01/20/2008, -1/+8Thank God (and no, God is not Steve Jobs).
- smek2, on 01/20/2008, -1/+6"Probably the only thing you won't get with NetBSD is the media hype. You'll need to get that somewhere else." -- from the NetBSD feature list. I like that.
- z3r0c0O1, on 01/20/2008, -7/+4Damn love linux and open source, but that guy needs a different hair cut.
- raulbot, on 01/20/2008, -1/+9you don't like the emo haircut?
- leinir, on 01/20/2008, -0/+12i would just like to say, Aaron, that is one brilliantly done speech! :)
VIVA EL PRESIDENTE! ;) - diggrim, on 01/20/2008, -0/+7Best quote: "in one sense Windows and Mac had for a long time been a free software ghetto" - Aaron Seigo
- twerq, on 01/20/2008, -3/+0Except he said the opposite of what he meant. A ghetto is where a minority group is concentrated, so he could have said "been a commercial software ghetto" but even that wouldn't work, becacuse commercial software is not the minority, it is the overwhelming majority. So in a stronger sense, Linux has been the one in the free software ghetto.
- Jancis, on 01/20/2008, -7/+2nice seeing that they go cross platform.. but.. why do they try to reinvent wheel with kwin? those effects are useless. they have to think on some integration with comipz instead.. why do open comunity do all those things seperately.. they could join their efforts.. :/
- bhalo05, on 01/20/2008, -0/+6You should ask the Compiz developers then, since Kwin existed long before.
- Mogger, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/KWin/4.0-release- ... pretty much answers your questions.
- RadonPL, on 01/20/2008, -0/+7Wow, KDE 4.0 brings all these components together seamlessly!
CoreLibs, Oxygen, Solid, Phonon, Decibel, Akinadi, Kross, Sonnet, DXS, Nepomuk
Great work KDE4 team! Kudos! - MikeN, on 01/21/2008, -0/+8Even though I'm a Gnome user by choice, this video was very interesting and well worth watching whatever your desktop persuasion.
- rzrgenesys187, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1Yep this has given me reason to look at KDE again. Might wait till 4.1 though as I hear it's pretty buggy
- Skeithy, on 01/21/2008, -0/+4Interesting talk, I like the code once and be done philosophy of Solid, Phonon and Kross. Plus the integration of other things like Nepomuk and DXS all wrapped in a pretty shell of Oxygen and Plasma. KDE 4.0 is rough, but the future looks very good.
The KDE developers have really covered their bases with this series. - Dohko_Xar, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Wow, that was pretty HD...
- BlueStarr, on 01/21/2008, -4/+1Oh my God shut him up! Just get to it already....blah-blah-blah.
- bcem, on 01/21/2008, -4/+0*snore*
- amire80, on 01/21/2008, -4/+1It's too bad that to watch it i need to install Adobe Flash, non-free software.
- goodhorsehymn, on 01/22/2008, -1/+1Flash Player is free isn't it?
- maino82, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2it's free as in beer, not free as in speech
- rzrgenesys187, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1Isn't there a open source plugin Gnash or something?
- goodhorsehymn, on 01/22/2008, -1/+1Flash Player is free isn't it?
- oobuntu, on 01/21/2008, -0/+3This video is good for KDE4.0 bashers to watch since it explains the KDE4 framework that will underpin many years of great kde4 releases. The KDE4 vision is a good one and it looks to be making some important steps. when will it be really cool for the user? hopefully soon but there is still much to do.
shame that they only demoed marble, konqueror and kstars , and also shame that some graphical demonstrations seemed a bit underprepared.
also aaron needs to say "whatnot" a little less :) - dpjames, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2borrrrrring.... jk this is great!
