Gates and Seinfeld Ads NOT Canceled
gizmodo.com — From a Crispin Porter source (Microsoft's ad company), we've learned that the internet has jumped the gun and that the Microsoft Gates/Seinfeld ads have not been axed. More details:
- 1801 diggs
- digg it
- TheBlackOasis, on 09/18/2008, -45/+16Whoopdie-*****-doo.
- JohnLawson, on 09/18/2008, -8/+6"Whoopdie-*****-doo."
That's what I think of your comment.=)
Buried. - klco, on 09/19/2008, -1/+5Lots of commentators with windows icons tonight don't you think??
- Charlotte_Web, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3It was just wishful thinking on the part of internet folk.
- JohnLawson, on 09/18/2008, -8/+6"Whoopdie-*****-doo."
- DarkNemesis618, on 09/18/2008, -48/+12They should've just cancelled it, they don't make any sense to me and don't even half persuade me to give up my Mac or Linux box. Microsoft should spend their money elsewhere, but they're microsoft so its not like they care or anything.
- dtraneighty8, on 10/07/2008, -4/+12They're not meant to make you give up your Mac or Linux box.
- MWeather, on 09/19/2008, -12/+5So they're wasting money? Because last I checked, that's what OEMs install by default. You have to ask for another OS, and even then, the answer is usually no.
- KibibyteBrain, on 09/19/2008, -2/+10They are really meant to increase confidence in MS brands for the purpose of markets MS doesn't already dominate, like mobiles, AV devices, etc. If people are down on MS, they might still begrudgingly use Windows, but it won't stimulate them to extend their relationship with MS products. Microsoft is just trying to clear their name, to help get a fresher start with consumers who might have misconceptions about their product...however, it will be interesting to see how this works as Vista is far from perfect yet.
- Scriabin, on 09/19/2008, -3/+5I'd like to know where you got the fabulously stupid idea that they were intended to attract mac and linux users to windows?
- CVL4317, on 09/19/2008, -3/+2Linux box is a good reason.. but Mac?
- chillypacman, on 09/19/2008, -3/+4Microsoft isn't feeding the troll, so they're not going to be throwing ***** at Mac or Linux. They're out to change their own public perception as defined by Apple (the troll that is not to be fed).
- Spuy767, on 09/19/2008, -0/+6I believe that they're trying to limit defection.
- D14BL0, on 09/19/2008, -1/+2IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME. CANCEL IT NOW.
- Ericdigital, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1All they are is to get you thinking about Microsoft. So people go out and say did you see that commercial with gates and Seinfeld. That's why they also have a line of anti mac ads separate from these. For the people who need the obvious intention of a commercial stamped on there ***** forehead.
- dtraneighty8, on 10/07/2008, -4/+12They're not meant to make you give up your Mac or Linux box.
- TruckStuff, on 09/18/2008, -15/+167Good. The second one was a lot funnier than the first. Gave me hope for some giggles out of the campaign.
- ZeMoose, on 09/19/2008, -7/+6A commercial that runs 4 and a half minutes? o.O I mean, it was funny, but really?
- BrokenCircle, on 09/19/2008, -1/+18Yes really.
- JFetch, on 09/19/2008, -3/+6Have you never seen a Superbowl commercial before? Some of those are 4 minutes or longer.
- alittleroy101, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3Really. I call *****. As far as I can recollect, I have never seen a superbowl ad last for 4 minutes or longer.
- MrRabbit, on 09/19/2008, -1/+2Agreed. A 4 minute Super Bowl Ad would easily cost over 70 bajillion dollars. Plus the breaks don't even last that long besides the halftime ones. Obviously not a big sports guru above.
70 bajillion dollars.
- oolitic, on 09/19/2008, -3/+11Sometimes the internet just sucks balls. MSFT haters salivate at any opportunity to sling mud and will cling on to any sliver of bad news against it.
I work in the marketing field and believe it or not, this has been an extraordinary successful campaign as far as meeting the intent goes. I know it's hard to "get" but the intent has purely been to make this ad campaign a talking point.- bdfariello, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1"MSFT" made me think of MOSFET, which led me to thinking about semiconductors. Hooray physics/electrical engineering.
I need to get out more.
- bdfariello, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1"MSFT" made me think of MOSFET, which led me to thinking about semiconductors. Hooray physics/electrical engineering.
- dafragsta, on 09/19/2008, -2/+5Wow. I just watched it. It actually was pretty good. You can tell they are just going the long way to be clever.
- adk323, on 09/19/2008, -3/+0Anyone think they had a chance to get john stewert?
- DarkShroud, on 09/19/2008, -1/+1Why buy a used junker when you can afford a Ferrari?
- AlexanderBlue, on 09/19/2008, -0/+5Right - so why did they go with the used junker?
- whamdanglers, on 09/19/2008, -2/+6Am I the only one that secretly wants Microsoft to smash the ball out of the park on this one?
- AlexanderBlue, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3Dunno. I just want my windows workstations (XP, Vista) and servers (2000, 2003) to NEVER crash or blue screen. That's how Microsoft can smash the ball out of the park.
- Kral, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2I'd just like them to stop corrupting standards organizations like the ISO and hooking up bogus legal smears like SCO. That's how Microsoft can smash the ball out of the park.
- amorrise, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1I just want Microsoft to stop playing catchup and start putting out innovative ads. I think Bill Gates does a surprisingly good job as the "straight man" in this comedy duo.
- afidler, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1@AlexanderBlue You know what man? I've been running XP on my laptop for about 4 years now, and it has NEVER crashed or BSOD'd.
- AlexanderBlue, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3Dunno. I just want my windows workstations (XP, Vista) and servers (2000, 2003) to NEVER crash or blue screen. That's how Microsoft can smash the ball out of the park.
- Ericdigital, on 09/19/2008, -1/+2I wanted to digg you but you have 99 diggs and the first thing that popped in my head was "i got 99 diggs but a bitch aint one"
sigh..
- ZeMoose, on 09/19/2008, -7/+6A commercial that runs 4 and a half minutes? o.O I mean, it was funny, but really?
- shutaro, on 09/18/2008, -4/+190One step closer to a sitcom starring the comedy duo of Seinfeld and Gates...
- DarkShroud, on 09/18/2008, -7/+90I'd watch it.
- JohnLawson, on 09/18/2008, -6/+31I'd do her...
errr..
I mean, I'd watch that too. - Checkerd, on 09/19/2008, -4/+27I'd watch it two times.
- doom777, on 09/19/2008, -1/+26I'd watch reruns.
- mrsteveman1, on 09/19/2008, -6/+8I'd watch it doggystyle
- klco, on 09/19/2008, -22/+5I would watch it... course the problem is that once you started watching it you couldn't watch anything else and it would sporadically just display a blue screen...
- asskey, on 09/19/2008, -1/+13A for effort
- Vich, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3I actually think he failed there, that joke is older than the combined age of Seinfeld and Gates.
- LAXgoalie0418, on 09/19/2008, -12/+1I dont want another commecial to tv show spin off.
Geico's Sasquatches anyone?- ry4nsm1th, on 09/19/2008, -0/+15They were cavemen.
- LAXgoalie0418, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4wow i feel like an *****.
- MillionsLivio, on 09/19/2008, -0/+6As you should, the Geico Cavemen tried real hard in the commercials to combat the stereotypical cavemen image and then you go and call him a sasquatch. Shame on your sir, shame on you.
- ChunkyLover36, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1Modern day odd couple.

- supporter12, on 09/18/2008, -7/+67NOT, we were kidding it is canceled !!
WAIT! its not!
wait..... IT IS!!!!!!!!!!
not...- whahaa, on 09/19/2008, -0/+19the internet jumped the gun?
oh well, i guess there's a first time for everything.- PrinceMissile, on 09/19/2008, -0/+5Digg jumped the gun. This article was on Giz at the exact same time the article about it being canceled was going up, up, up the Top Ten on Digg.
- tidu, on 09/19/2008, -1/+4I just saw an unrelated Microsoft ad with all these normal people saying "I'm a PC", it even had Bill. I guess this ad campaign is multi-faceted.
- Vich, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Multiple Ad campaigns at the same time. With Microsoft's money and the subliminal advertising angle, they should branch out into sitcoms as well. They could organise for Gates to cameo in random shows and for celebs to be holding vista boxes and for every second ad to be a Microsoft ad from a different campaign.
- cledford, on 09/19/2008, -3/+1That was funny... NOT!
- jabberwolff, on 10/05/2008, -0/+1Just because Mactards start the rumor mill that the Seinfeld ads were canceled does not mean that it was MS.
Digg, Gizmodo and all the others decided to go with the canceled ad story without checking sources.
Everyone else that wasnt a mactards, actually read. And when reading, saw that NO ONE said it was being canceled.
So this is just a case of reality taking the flock of sheep by surprise,,,, again.
- whahaa, on 09/19/2008, -0/+19the internet jumped the gun?
- jts8, on 09/18/2008, -7/+34-100 Bigtop points
- Vich, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2You can't lose Bigtop points, you can only spend them at all Shoe Circus stores. Use your points towards your next pair of conquistadors, or why not give them to a friend with a Shoe Circus gift card? Quality shoes at discount prices! Why pay more?
- ChrisArchitect, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2these sorts of responses just show how big the ads are in the end ....marketing should not be thinking of dropping them ....may not directly promote Vista or anything, but MS in the collective mind is not a bad thing!
- zerocool1990, on 09/18/2008, -14/+127Oh thank goodness.. I loved those ads
- cmto, on 09/19/2008, -0/+0me too
- allengeer, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1My favorite: "Just because a design uses inheritance and polymorphism doesn't make it a good design. Rouge objects. . ."
- DarkShroud, on 09/18/2008, -14/+80These ads rule. I love the subtle jabs at Apple that the average person at home doesn't get thus aren't affteced by. Unlike those pretentious Apple ads.
- JohnLawson, on 09/18/2008, -6/+37One guy went as far as to say that Microsoft is copying Apple because apparently there like the apple advertising commercials.
I was thinking... Where in the hell did you get that from...- MWeather, on 09/19/2008, -9/+8They probably got it from the upcoming "I'm a PC" ad campaign.
- JohnLawson, on 09/19/2008, -2/+4Replying to MWeather,
Your probably right. - sougly, on 09/19/2008, -1/+10You got both "they're" and "you're" wrong.
- Vich, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4Quite the accomplishment with they're and you're, but I digress...
I think the only likeness is that Microsoft are actually doing an advertising campaign, and perhaps an attempt at a "trendy" or "modern" campaign. Microsoft have sat quiet for so long, people just bought their stuff - no need to advertise. Now they feel threatened by Mac and Linux.
Now I know this is gonna annoy the Apple fanboys, but Apple just doesn't shut up in my opinion. The sheer number of ads is testament to that. Microsoft only had to make 1 ad before everyone was screaming about it; whereas Apple can release a new ad each week and no one cares. And of course, the only thing more vocal than Apple are its users.
- mattlohkamp, on 09/19/2008, -6/+3@DarkShroud - that was sarcasm, right? maybe I'm one of the average people at home... I didn't get it.
- DarkShroud, on 09/19/2008, -1/+8The First ad was taking shots at the Apple store, I'll let you figure them out. The second ad took shots at Jobs himself (the mean old lady whose been there for 12 years and is running everything.) and apple (the giraffe they claimed Bill stole). And then there is pumping up Windows, like how bill gave the kid some insane game.
In short it isn't sarcasm. - mattlohkamp, on 09/20/2008, -0/+1Whoa. I'm with you on the giraffe thing - that's subtlety right there. Maybe the shoe store / apple store thing too... although why does Jerry let Bill still pick out shoes from the store, and why is Bill a triple-platinum member, or whatever? That one seems a little shaky. The old lady / jobs thing is pretty out-there too - and actually if that's the case, it makes Jobs look pretty good, since she's apparently the only one who doesn't act weird around their new house guests, fixes the car, chainsaws back the hedge, does laundry, etc.
Still. I bow to your superior movie-analytics skills.
- superkendall, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4I see, they are deliberately building ads that the target market will not understand. Brilliant!
- Maniaca, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2But thinking you're smarter than the average person at home is totally not pretentious, right?
- DarkShroud, on 09/20/2008, -0/+1In some ways I am smarter than the average person at home in reguards to what I've had to repair on/in PCs. The difference is I don't act like a pretentious prick to them.
- JohnLawson, on 09/18/2008, -6/+37One guy went as far as to say that Microsoft is copying Apple because apparently there like the apple advertising commercials.
- JohnLawson, on 09/18/2008, -5/+30I was surprised that it had been supposedly canceled in the first place. No company commits 300 million to an advertising campaign and then just abandons it.
Some people might say Microsoft is an exception.... I guess not.- jejones, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1Well... there have been several examples of television series that only lasted one episode: _Turn On_ and _You're In the Picture_ leap to mind.
If Microsoft had anything vaguely resembling class, they'd do what Jackie Gleason did after the one episode of _You're in the Picture_: he came on during the show time slot, sitting alone in a chair on the stage, and gave a half-hour apology to the public. The apology was witty and hilarious--everything the stupid game show (with people sticking their heads through holes and trying to guess what had been painted on the other side) wasn't. But there's no risk of that; I guess we'll keep seeing more of those pointless, stupid ads with Gates and Seinfeld. Three words, Jerry: "mess of pottage."
- jejones, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1Well... there have been several examples of television series that only lasted one episode: _Turn On_ and _You're In the Picture_ leap to mind.
- Asheis, on 09/19/2008, -3/+25well it was a valleywag article.. isn't that like.. the TMZ of tech news?
- D14BL0, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1Seriously, why do tabloids keep appearing on the front page?
- smoothmann, on 09/19/2008, -11/+3oh we're so *****
- hootie233, on 09/19/2008, -16/+8Does anyone actually care?
- aftern9ne, on 09/19/2008, -14/+97I don't care if you don't like Microsoft or not, those ads are funny.
- ippa, on 09/19/2008, -5/+7yay, they're good :D

- leif777, on 09/19/2008, -6/+9flip flopers
- ThatGeek, on 09/19/2008, -11/+6I guess im the only one that never liked those ads. They got me a giggle or 2, but that was it. It never said to me "GO OUT AND BUY VISTA!!! " Sorry, but neither Bill Gates nor Jerry Seinfeld is an actor. Seinfeld is a comedian, that somehow managed to get a show about nothing, be a terrible actor, and yet the show was still hilarious.
- 2Deluxe, on 09/19/2008, -1/+13It was never intended to be a product placement, it was commercial branding.
- JFetch, on 09/19/2008, -0/+5They aren't Vista commercials. Why do people not understand that?
- AlexanderBlue, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1Not only that, but:
1) They have struck enough of a chord that numerous internet threads have been spawned and we are all now discussing Microsoft commercials.
2) The make Bill Gates, the father figure of Microsoft, appear down to earth, approachable, and likable.
This campaign isn't about selling so much as about getting people to have warmer feelings toward Microsoft. - mrBitch, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1RE: " This campaign isn't about selling so much as about getting people to have warmer feelings toward Microsoft. "
And it WORKS!
Just the other day at work, one of our customers screamed out, "*****! I just lost all my work! ***** Windows!"
But JUST AT THAT MOMENT, I played the Seinfeld / Gates advert and saw a smile play across his face and then noticed an INSTANT CALMING EFFECT.
Crisis averted!
- AlexanderBlue, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1Not only that, but:
- RIB08, on 09/19/2008, -3/+23I heard they were actually canceled but the Fed pumped 80 billion dollars into them late last night.
- warban, on 09/19/2008, -5/+84Speaking of PA: Someone on the forums there noted....
A big part of the ad was a stab at Jobs, his controlling nature within Apple, and his famous "reality distortion field". The old lady who'd been there for 12 years (the same number of years since Jobs returned to Apple) ran the whole show. She was doing the laundry, she was doing the yard work, she was fixing the car. She kept up the facade of a rather dated looking home full of people who were caught up in appearances (the neighbor's car) and the pretension of useless things like Greek coins, wine mustard and leather giraffes. When the old lady croaks, the place will fall apart. They had ***** pong to play (Macs suck at gaming) while Bill Gates had the most incredible game ever for the kid.
The first ad was a rip on the Apple Store - the fact you buy your computers from a place in the mall and they don't even fit you properly. Regular people pointlessly idolize them (the family staring through the window) and you don't get much for your money "Why pay more?"
Keep in mind the entire purpose of these ads is that they're a direct response to Apple's "Mac vs. PC" campaign, it's hardly a stretch to point out the statements being made about Apple vs. MSFT in them.
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=69 ...- RoboCafaz, on 09/19/2008, -11/+5That's too complicated for my mind to comprehend. Can't they just make a commercial that says "MACS SUCK! PCS RULE!" like a normal company? :(
- puma, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1yea and they'll put it to baby music for ya too.. just like you like
- bluetytanium, on 09/19/2008, -1/+41Deep *****, man.
- oMeSSiaHo, on 09/19/2008, -0/+34You justs blew my mind...
- MaTT2011, on 09/19/2008, -3/+14Well then surely the majority of consumers can discern such buried and abstract meaning from these commercials, being that consumers are so amazingly intelligent.
/sarcasm
These commercials are way too out of touch and most people have no idea what the hell they are selling or saying. While they may be cute and inspire a few giggles, along with some extremely awkward cringe inducing moments, they just don't seem to further the hidden agenda some have been able to interpret from them. - murrdpirate, on 09/19/2008, -0/+12Wow, were they really that subtle? Completely went over my head. How many people do they expect to get it?
- ZeMoose, on 09/19/2008, -1/+14Yeah, I definitely didn't pick up on any of that from watching the commercials.
- InfernoX, on 09/19/2008, -1/+5All of the sudden my life doesn't make any sense.
- Raiderkid6, on 09/19/2008, -0/+20Wow, that ACTUALLY makes sense now
- EggNogIceCream, on 09/19/2008, -1/+13Oh, yeah In the 2nd commercial, I wonder if eating the same food with little change (the added cheese) is like apple coming out with new products where the change is minimal like color.
- MaTT2011, on 09/19/2008, -3/+2Thats funny seeing as how microsoft does THE SAME EXACT THING.
thats what ALL corporations do; spend as little money and time as possible creating new products and then investing the rest into fooling people into thinking they have a new and better product...hell thats what MS is doing RIGHT NOW!
The irony is ... delicious. - allengeer, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2pretty sure microsoft has come out with a whole menagerie of new innovative products.
* Zune
* XBox
* XBox 360
* Vista (it might have sucked but it was an attempt at something completely new)
* Sharepoint
* Surface
* Silverlight
Hell MS is creating new things right now.
- MaTT2011, on 09/19/2008, -3/+2Thats funny seeing as how microsoft does THE SAME EXACT THING.
- collution, on 09/19/2008, -1/+2Thank You for telling me why the first ad makes sense. I was lost confused and desperate :/.
- jaxzin, on 09/19/2008, -3/+4I logged into the full site from my iPhone just to digg your comment. Those with an iPhone can assest to how painful a process that actually is.
- danrez06, on 09/19/2008, -0/+0That makes so much more sense now, thanks.
A big part of the whole campaign was to make PC cool again and to have people talking about PCs. I guess all of these diggs prove it is working.
- RoboCafaz, on 09/19/2008, -11/+5That's too complicated for my mind to comprehend. Can't they just make a commercial that says "MACS SUCK! PCS RULE!" like a normal company? :(
- doom777, on 09/19/2008, -1/+13Wait, but it was on the internet. It must be true!
- lukis100, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4rule 124.
- edge777, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4And yet, 90% of the Digg users forget that 100% of the time. I'm so glad this made the front page so that Digg users might figure out that one must indeed use their brains while browsing the Internet (wishful thinking... I know... oh wait, is that another Palin jab??!! That must be true.... sigh....)
- sfacets, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1I trust internet submitted/filtered stories more than I trust Big Media.
- flipao, on 09/19/2008, -7/+6I gotta be honest, I would totally watch a Jerry Seinfeld/Bill Gates sitcom, oh, Microsoft will still have no clue on how to run an ad campaign, but seeing those two middle aged suckers walk around being so good at being out of touch is priceless.
Oh, and bring the pizza guy back! - Eric77lv, on 09/19/2008, -10/+1NOOOOOOOOOOO I dont get the point of those ads it was just random junk its basically saying "He he uhhhhhhmmmmmmm I like boogers Get a Mac" the end
- OptionalPirate, on 09/19/2008, -5/+4Damn.
- BobZombie00, on 09/19/2008, -7/+5BREAKING:they're not canceled.
- lukis100, on 09/19/2008, -10/+3:'(
They are destroying Seinfeld...- F9Phoenix, on 09/19/2008, -0/+10Too late. I think that Bee Movie campaign was the final nail.
- mediaspree, on 09/19/2008, -5/+5What exactly, where they advertising? Shoes?
- 2Deluxe, on 09/19/2008, -3/+5I actually think the ads were pretty cool. No they're not product placement, they're corporate branding -- and to be honest did exactly what I believe they were intended. I see Microsoft in a somewhat different light now.
Microsoft, Delicious.- UncleRage, on 09/19/2008, -0/+6Ex Mac die hard that runs mostly vanilla x86 w/ Linux (except when I need CS 3 & Pro Tools) and I'm here to say... I love these; they're effing hilarious.
Yeah, I know that they're completely missing direction and point (from a "sell product X" mentallity); but, as 2Deluxe above noted... I view Microsoft differently now. Truth be told, these commercials sealed the deal that the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates interview a couple of years back started: Gates has endeared himself to me.
And as someone else above said... I'd watch a Gates and Seinfeld sitcom as well. The two of them are surprisingly charming in a goofy kind of way.

- MaxBWeinberg, on 09/19/2008, -7/+5I personally think that these commercials are great. Not only does it show that Microsoft doesn't take itself TOO seriously, it make Bill Gates a bit more human-esqe. I'm pretty convinced that he isn't a wizard living on a mountain on the west coast anymore.
- sfacets, on 09/19/2008, -3/+1Actually, if anything, Gates managed to alienate himsef even more than before.
- MaxBWeinberg, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1With all do respect, how do you reckon, sir?
- allengeer, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1Yea with lines like "The fact that a design uses inheritance and polymorphism doesn't make it a good design. Rough objects. . ." how is he alienating himself? If anything I am very curious in what Bill has to say about object oriented design. I identify with him. He is a nerd, just like me.
- sfacets, on 09/19/2008, -3/+1Actually, if anything, Gates managed to alienate himsef even more than before.
- solid12345, on 09/19/2008, -4/+6Whatever you think about the ad, love it or hate it, the fact is it WORKED, it got everyone's attention, the whole point of advertising.
- sfacets, on 09/19/2008, -1/+1Attention, but not towards any brand/product in particular.
- ryanere, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2microsoft brand?
- superkendall, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1A big point of advertising is to raise brand awareness. But everyone already is aware of Microsoft. Therefore they can have no real effect in that regard.
So another point of advertising is to make the viewer feel better disposed to the company producing the ad. How did the Microsoft ads help there? They either confused people or made them think Microsoft had gone off the deep end.- allengeer, on 09/19/2008, -1/+1are you kidding? its not about brand awareness here, its about image. The apple/pc ads are not about brand awareness. They're about image.
Microsoft is defining an image. You watch those ads, and you realize at the end you're intrigued by the interaction between Seinfeld and Gates. At then end, you have associated an image with Microsoft. It will be this image that Microsoft will continue to play upon as they release this next wave of advertisements. It will be an image, that takes up the counterpart of the apple "Im A Douchebag" image. If they couple this with some solid product releases. . . it could work very well.

- restlessdesign, on 09/19/2008, -3/+2Man, my respect for CP+B just keeps going down :(
- SemiSarcastic, on 09/19/2008, -4/+35Dear exclusive Windows, Apple, Linux users
Brand loyalty: it's only for stupid people.- santaliqueur, on 09/19/2008, -11/+1You sound like someone who is quite loyal to your own brands.
- DeathJux, on 09/19/2008, -0/+17Exactly. Each has strengths and weaknesses, so staying completely loyal to one is only putting yourself at a disadvantage.
- mateo60, on 09/19/2008, -0/+14Corporations aren't loyal to us, why should we be loyal to them?
- mnemy, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1Or the lazy. Not everyone has the time or desire to learn how to fix all of the quirks of every major OS.
- Ebacherville, on 09/19/2008, -16/+9Just like vista, it sucks and they still wont admit it..
- roxgod666, on 09/19/2008, -3/+5Buried for me not liking you
- legendxx, on 09/19/2008, -2/+5You mean the internet isn't always right? The Ron Paulbots and everyone who thinks the banking crisis is going to be the end of America will be crushed!
- buckchoris, on 09/19/2008, -5/+2Its the congress which votes and even the democrats know that, they are simply misguiding people and blaming everything on us republicans.
- homesickalien, on 09/19/2008, -7/+3Why is this news? Since when does anyone give a ***** about whether or not advertising campaigns are run???
- murrdpirate, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3Why did you dig a story about a coyote eating paris hilton's dogs???
- homesickalien, on 09/19/2008, -1/+1The Paris Hilton Story made me lol and made me cry.
- murrdpirate, on 09/19/2008, -0/+0Yeah, I guess the commercials didn't really do either. Touche.
- murrdpirate, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3Why did you dig a story about a coyote eating paris hilton's dogs???
- coolesttech, on 09/19/2008, -3/+13Good, I liked the second Gates Stienfield ad, so I'm glad they aren't canceled. Normal people don't get them, but that's because they are aimed at geeks.
- buckchoris, on 09/19/2008, -3/+12I didn't know bill gates could act as well.
- Gardiner1278, on 09/19/2008, -1/+1I liked them. I couldn't care less they weren't techy enough; I thought they were fairly funny and, at least for once, I wasn't subjected to seeing Billy Mays mug screaming at me like some possessed, rabid Critter (that is, from the movie).
- relayer2112, on 09/19/2008, -11/+4The commercials sucked. Cripes, what's with all these interpretations anyway? And please don't start with "but they're meant to start discussion and dialog..." They're about a friggin software company that makes a mediocre operating system and bloated office applications.
Stop struggling to give these ads any significant meaning. Adjust your shorts and move on.- Shugii, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4Yep, so mediocre that 90% of the worlds operating systems are running windows.
Adjusts your shorts and stick a pole up there.- relayer2112, on 09/19/2008, -1/+0So by your logic, MacDonalds has the best food becuase the majority eat there. Um ok, whatever.
Hi, I'm a PC and I run a mediocre operating system made by a convicted monopolist. I had no choice at the time.
Windows vs walls my ass. Stick it up yours while you choke on M$' EULA. - Shugii, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Just accept the truth that you're wrong and no one really agrees with you. I didn't say that windows was the best, just not as mediocre as Apple. So you're saying that you don't use windows because the founder has been convicted of something, yeah great logic. I'm not brand loyal, i use the brands that help me do what i want, not because of the what creator has done in his personal life you ***** wanker.

- Haz3rd, on 09/19/2008, -2/+4I didn't like them at first, but now I stop Tivo specifically to watch them.
- mirot, on 09/19/2008, -3/+13i've never looked forward to a commercial like this before
- Ex3poo, on 09/19/2008, -7/+1NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- jazzbeaux, on 09/19/2008, -1/+6YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Raist999, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3I have enjoyed the commercials and am looking forward to more. Watching a good commercial gives my TiVo 30 more seconds to cache crap commercials I can skip.
- WickEd101, on 09/19/2008, -2/+1Microsoft's ads shouldn't be corporate doublespeak pretend to say something but actually say nothing, which is what it's been for the past two years. At least these ads are doublespeak, say nothing and don't pretend to say anything.
- DarkShroud, on 09/19/2008, -1/+2If you actually paid attention you'd see these ads say a lot. There are a hell of a lot of Apple jabs.
Here is a link to the Penny Arcade forums where we were discussing them.

- D3koy, on 09/19/2008, -1/+4Know what I'd rather see? Gates doing the robot for 25 seconds, then standing up straightening his tie and say "Windows works"
- simking, on 09/19/2008, -7/+3Ok maybe my humor meter is higher than most..I found them NOT funny at all and nothing to do with M$ windows
- DarkShroud, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4Spelling MS with a $ tells me your humor meter is broken.
- relayer2112, on 09/19/2008, -2/+0M$ is still relevant and humorous. Especially when referring to a current $300 million ad campaign starring a high priced established comedian and the world's 3rd (sorry bill, no longer #1) richest person.
