Music using ONLY sounds from Windows XP and 98 watch!
youtube.com — Pretty Interesting! Actually sounds good considering the source
- 6975 diggs
- digg it
- TheKrillr, on 02/17/2008, -12/+480this is amazing! title is a little misleading, considering its the original sounds with pitch/tone transforms -- but still amazing.
- FirstDigg, on 02/17/2008, -5/+46Yeah, it was slightly misleading, but I still enjoyed it. I like weird musical creations.
Here's some music made from dot matrix printers: http://youtube.com/watch?v=2KsHuPSCRIM- gritta, on 02/18/2008, -0/+19Cheers for the link but it sounds ***** compared to the Windows XP and 98 music! :P
- HesNikke, on 02/18/2008, -0/+8lol. sounds like digital bag pipes
- bbardlbradd, on 02/18/2008, -0/+5She had to be tripping on acid while making/listening to that. Sounds like something that would be in a printer related horror film.
- pythoncircus, on 02/18/2008, -2/+0***** amazing. that link deserves its own submission.
- ligyron, on 02/17/2008, -1/+39Technically, if you're allowed to clip the sounds and adjust the pitch, you can emulate lots of instruments on any note
- xkorbin, on 02/18/2008, -0/+12Anything sounds like electric guitar if it's distorted enough.
- sansri88, on 02/17/2008, -7/+2Anyone able to download it? Going reallly slow for me...
- Asianwaste, on 02/17/2008, -0/+11Holy crap.. . MOD files, Impulse Trackers, Scream Trackers... I remember these formats!!! They were great during the time before the MP3 and when all MIDI files sounded like Kazoos.
- dn11, on 02/18/2008, -0/+9/nostalgia. ah, the days of scouring anonymous FTPs downloading MOD music and then occasionally coming across a ***** sounding MP3 to impress your friends with in WinAMP 0.20
- tkotam, on 03/03/2008, -0/+2Axelf in MOD format. Amazing!!
- Myztry, on 02/18/2008, -0/+9Trackers started back on the good old Amiga back in the mid-late 80's with protracker, octamed, and the like.
I had the complete song of "John Farnham - You're the voice" around 1988. No big deal, except it was uncompressed music, made entirely of sequenced samples, and was something like 80k. Indistinguishable from the real song.
Very few PC's at the stage even had sound cards around that era.
- dn11, on 02/18/2008, -0/+9/nostalgia. ah, the days of scouring anonymous FTPs downloading MOD music and then occasionally coming across a ***** sounding MP3 to impress your friends with in WinAMP 0.20
- Vorin, on 02/17/2008, -10/+3those weren't frequency changes, he only used actual windows sounds, although he looped some parts.
even during the chord modulation, i think those were segments.
if you know the program and can see that he changed the pitch, then ok. - tgc1, on 02/17/2008, -2/+17Title is NOT misleading. He said FROM, he didn't say he didn't alter them. That's damn impressive. I remember making ST3's and MOD's back in the day, but I never was terribly good at it. It was lots of fun back then.
- spudnic, on 02/18/2008, -9/+4Well technically the sounds he used weren't *from* Windows, you couldn't go into Windows and find those sounds, you'd have to alter them too.
That's how it's misleading.
- spudnic, on 02/18/2008, -9/+4Well technically the sounds he used weren't *from* Windows, you couldn't go into Windows and find those sounds, you'd have to alter them too.
- zdwade, on 02/18/2008, -15/+1***** you
- JudgeMonkey, on 02/18/2008, -0/+9Good point.
- dn11, on 02/18/2008, -3/+7still dugg for making the horrible windows sounds musical.
- mungins, on 02/18/2008, -0/+7That Comp is spitting crazy licks.
- LaerrusFish, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1I still think this one is the best
http://www.digg.com/odd_stuff/Old_world_windows_sy ... - waldo686, on 02/19/2008, -0/+0this is cool, but i still remember someone doing this on windows 98
http://youtube.com/watch?v=EmpZ2wPvXwY&feature=rel ...
- FirstDigg, on 02/17/2008, -5/+46Yeah, it was slightly misleading, but I still enjoyed it. I like weird musical creations.
- zoomsixx, on 02/17/2008, -37/+28Very cool. I wonder how long it took to put this compilation together. Now for the Mac version??? Probably not
- JusticeFriend, on 02/17/2008, -40/+13Not, beacuse mac sux. period.
- alkaline213, on 02/17/2008, -7/+13I mean, we all know that isn't true.
Jealousy makes people say stupid things I suppose.- JusticeFriend, on 02/18/2008, -7/+6Mac fanboy...
- jmpeagle, on 02/18/2008, -4/+2you know who else didn't use Macs? Hitler.
You = Hitler
- jmpeagle, on 02/18/2008, -4/+2you know who else didn't use Macs? Hitler.
- JusticeFriend, on 02/18/2008, -7/+6Mac fanboy...
- alkaline213, on 02/17/2008, -7/+13I mean, we all know that isn't true.
- tba2287, on 02/17/2008, -0/+25System 7-OS 9 had some good error sounds...although I'm not sure if using "eep" and "quack" sound as good as the 98 and XP sounds.
- Totalsam, on 02/17/2008, -8/+90Mac version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAKXTvyYSfc- rebolyte, on 02/17/2008, -0/+24Ha ha, where is the Willhelm scream in OS X?
- Incomp3tnt, on 02/17/2008, -2/+5Augh, it's like brown noise. I feel sick.
- bbardlbradd, on 02/18/2008, -3/+1Uh, no, you just have a problem with pooping yourself, and you should really keep that to yourself.
- solarwind24, on 02/18/2008, -4/+7Not nearly as good as the windows one, but considering microsoft spends the majority of their money on making the user interface nice, that's acceptable.
- adooga, on 02/18/2008, -0/+11That makes no sense.
- dev3, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1are you serious? or did you forget the sarcasm tag??
- boris92, on 02/18/2008, -1/+7You should have rick rolled :P
- trivialmaggot, on 02/17/2008, -5/+12how about the iron maiden version?
http://maidenxp.ytmnd.com
- JusticeFriend, on 02/17/2008, -40/+13Not, beacuse mac sux. period.
- weiwuwei, on 02/17/2008, -8/+41Very entertaining! Makes me want to analyze other "everyday" sounds to see how they would fit into musical compositions.
- lololololol, on 02/17/2008, -24/+2Tool.
- Randomsauce, on 02/18/2008, -2/+2Reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXFx9HQzD5w
- gsmolders, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3people have been doing exactly this (using "everyday" sounds to see how they would fit into musical compositions.") for the better part of the last century.
- Eccohawk, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1Like that stupid baby sound in Aaliyah's 'Are You That Somebody?' ...if you dunno what I'm talking about, you're lucky...but don't go listening for it, because you'll never, ever be able to tune the sound out of the song ever again, and from then on out it's all you'll hear.
- luke16, on 02/17/2008, -5/+287Can you imagine if you had that song everytime you log onto to your computer!
I'd bet you would get all the girls...- iPissExcellence, on 02/17/2008, -6/+68Where do you live; in Kazakhstan?
- jasonmantey, on 02/17/2008, -1/+151You may be setting yourself up for another "why Diggers don't have girlfriends" image ...
- ichchappycat, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2Too late.
- anagoge, on 02/17/2008, -0/+51I've just cut a 40 second version of it (the second half of the song) for my startup sound.
I'm so going to get laid now.- Kauzman01, on 02/18/2008, -0/+12Wow thats one long-ass startup sound.
- MacEnvy, on 02/18/2008, -1/+3(It's Vista running on a Celeron M.)
- Kauzman01, on 02/18/2008, -0/+12Wow thats one long-ass startup sound.
- prophetpimp, on 02/17/2008, -7/+18***** that. i am suing it as a ringtone.
- TheOther1, on 02/17/2008, -0/+77I tried, but my lawyer said I had no case.
- logga0, on 02/18/2008, -1/+2Comments like these justify spending 90% of life on digg :D
- pattyboy, on 03/10/2008, -1/+2No, no they don't.
- tzilla12, on 02/17/2008, -50/+25somebody should do this with mac sounds (please don't bury me for being a mac fan)
- wukillabee, on 02/17/2008, -43/+9buried for being a mac *****
- alexandramw, on 02/17/2008, -7/+33you're buried for being an idiot.
- TokenWhiteGuy, on 02/17/2008, -5/+2I could be wrong but I've only heard the start up sound and the alert sound.
- zeeky, on 02/17/2008, -16/+2there is no start up sound...
- lougoose, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3Already got posted in reply to another comment.

- JasonMath, on 02/17/2008, -9/+2Yeah, I like this one better, too. If you want to comment on it, here is a Newgrounds link: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/163139
- solarwind24, on 02/18/2008, -7/+4Is it just me, or is there more than one cursor on the screen?
- JusticeFriend, on 02/17/2008, -3/+3Amazing!
- CColtManM, on 02/18/2008, -1/+2What's more amazing was I found out that i was not alone with the glitch in the startup music.
- MattJF317, on 02/17/2008, -4/+262For the first 12 or 13 seconds I thought ... oh great, this is terrible.
Then around 35 I thought ... oh *****... this is going to be REALLY good.- jlimon, on 02/17/2008, -3/+114http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2008 ...
- lolwutpear, on 02/17/2008, -6/+1not buried because the phrasing made me think of the same concept
- mpphan, on 02/17/2008, -1/+29Best translation into LOLcat EVER.
- thedeadwalrus, on 02/17/2008, -17/+2And then I thought ... oh ... it's only marginally terrible.
I'd give it a B- for someone new to trackers. A sort-of cool idea that turned into a pretty annoying and trivial piece of music. - sroop, on 02/17/2008, -0/+9The first 13 seconds just about gave me a heart attack, or a shattered laptop. Those sounds are torturous.
- jlimon, on 02/17/2008, -3/+114http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2008 ...
- KnockoutNerd, on 02/17/2008, -2/+35That music is pretty intense, makes me want to do something but I'll just digg it.

- mrjit, on 02/17/2008, -3/+102These sounds seriously raise my blood pressure. That goddamned default asterisk sound, or the startup sound blasting at full volume after a fresh install. I attribute these sounds to anger and rage. Thank god they're quickly disabled.
- geneticlemon, on 02/17/2008, -0/+22Yeah, I started getting nervous while listening to this. I seriously expected an error window to pop up telling me there was a delay write failure or something ...
- xkorbin, on 02/18/2008, -0/+5It's amazing the psychosomatic pains that one can get from Microsoft Windows default noises.
- RedHawk911, on 02/17/2008, -1/+1Awesome!!:D
- hokkos, on 02/17/2008, -2/+62It's extremly stressfull to listen, it reminds of all the alerts of windows x_x.
- timothiuz, on 02/17/2008, -5/+11*working on the Mac version.....*

- ohsweetwoods, on 02/17/2008, -0/+51at about 0:56 it stops being gimmicky and starts being legit music. it reminds me of four tet.
- jetcombo15, on 02/17/2008, -0/+4Yeah, Four Tet was what I thought about the most when I listened to this.
- asurroca, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1Yeah, definitely Four Tet's style toward the last half ...
- dwninjungleland, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2Yep. For sure. Four Tet. Awesome.

- HyperJack, on 02/17/2008, -1/+3Sounds like a fruity version of an Unreal Tournament soundtrack!
- bashnu, on 02/17/2008, -0/+36The sounds we have loved to hate.

- beedo34, on 02/17/2008, -9/+4trent reznor jr.
pretty great, original stuff. - virtualball, on 02/17/2008, -1/+15I swear, from my time helping people fix their computers, I flinch every time I hear that XP error sound! :[
- Shiftyeyedgoat, on 02/17/2008, -0/+50Turning rage-inducing ciritcal errors into euphonious tranquility.
- nshady, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1Dugg for 'euphonious'.
- dajernts, on 02/17/2008, -1/+5It's cool. The only problem is that hearing those sounds makes me cringe.
- scarz99, on 02/17/2008, -11/+2Of course hes azn...
- EmitStop, on 02/17/2008, -0/+37Someone needs to do 'Still Alive' with windows sounds
- detalubo, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1Already did. I used MODplug tracker to make it so I can swap samples with anything I want. If anyone really wants it, I have the .mod and .xm files for "Still Alive".
- Ramble, on 02/17/2008, -1/+4Sounds like he ripped music straight off an old Sega Megadrive game.
- DiggerT, on 02/17/2008, -11/+2guess someone was really board.

The megaupload link for the extended high quality mp3 is http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RBVJWZTS -- but megaupload sucks... So I've put up a temporary mirror of the extended high quality mp3 here: http://grammarmehate.com/XP_Sounds_Attempt_Extende ...
