- uptwolait, on 06/23/2008, -6/+3He went out doing what he loved. Oh, that we could all do that. I just hope the hot model I'm doing it with isn't injured from my explosion.
- civickid03, on 06/23/2008, -1/+4This is too sad to hear. Maybe the NHRA will spend some of their profits to extend the length of some of their shorter tracks so these events may have less of a chance of occuring. He did go out doing what he loved! One can only hope for such when its time to go.
- Chirp08, on 06/23/2008, -0/+1If there was a mile of sand it would not have been enough to save his life, the car was doing nearly 300mph when the engine blew, the chutes deployed on fire, and never bloomed. The g-forces from when the chutes deploy on a clean run are enough to make some people pass out, hitting any kind of object at those speeds is going to be fatal. (Hitting the side walls, like in so many crashes we've seen before, doesn't compare, the net force in those impacts is still in the direction of the end of the track, figure a bowling ball bouncing off the bumpers, in Scotts case picture a bolling ball hitting a brick wall before the pins)
- fahrvergnuugen, on 06/23/2008, -0/+11"At the time his vehicle exploded, Kalitta had already won his qualifier for the Funny Car event. The next day, at what would have been his opening elimination round event, his team stood on the starting line on his side of the dragstrip as Robert Hight, who would have been his opponent, idled his car down the quarter-mile track out of respect."

- Sairynn, on 06/23/2008, -0/+2Probably.
- MrSquishyPants, on 06/23/2008, -0/+1Anybody else wondering the brilliance of having a solid wall at the end of the track rather than a sandtrap or something to gradually slow the car?
- Pestilence76, on 06/23/2008, -0/+1There is a sand trap at the end of the track.
- feliks2, on 06/23/2008, -1/+1Arrrrrr, rednecks!
- CyberStriker, on 06/23/2008, -2/+0"That's gotta hurt!" - George Costanza
- willskillz, on 06/23/2008, -1/+1man... that's sad. Wonder if in the future they're gonna get rid of that wall and make the track longer.
