Nintendo giving away Anti-Slip Remote Jacket
kotaku.com — Nintendo have announced they'll be giving away an anti-slip jacket for your Wii Remotes. Which are obviously far too slippery.

That went right over your head, he was making a condom joke.- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23Although explaining the joke with a woosh is a bit odd, explaining the woosh with the woosh is definitely against etiquette.
Perhaps you should try starting off with some simple "pics or it didn't happens", and slowly ramp your way up to shop jokes. In a month you'll be connecting cute dog pictures to Ron Paul and Global Warming. Just gotta take it slow and easy.- smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Rules 1 and 2. They apply everywhere now.

- manbir, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5I think the new covers look pretty cool but I wonder if they'll have an effect on gameplay.
- vhold, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17I think they're mostly concerned about the effect it will have on lawsuits.
- bingobongony, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4yeah...I am sure that no one at Nintendo ever thought about that!
- tony4moroney, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8yes it will have an effect on gameplay - less slippage.
- puzzud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Mmm... I was wondering the same thing. I hope the big rubber head :) doesn't mess with playing game with the remote sideways--gamepad style.
- jhourcle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have some of the earlier covers (which were a consistent thickness, so it didn't look so bubbly, and it had cutouts just barely larger than the buttons).
They made it more difficult to hit some buttons (+, -, home), but most games I've played (except Metroid) didn't make heavy use of 'em. These have much larger open areas across the face, so I doubt that'll be a problem.
For those that have a Nyko Charge Station, you'll have to pull the cover mostly off to fit it in the dock. (especially with this new curved design)
Also, they help to reduce the scare when your neighbor's 6 year old swing wildy in every last game they play. (but you probably still need to make sure they stop bouncing around wildly so they don't club you with it)
- AZTriGuy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30"The Wii Remote Jacket is designed to be added and removed easily"
That's good, we have a couple of silicon covers for our Wiimotes, but they tear up when you try to get them off to change the batteries. I'll be ordering mine tomorrow.- GreySpec, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Must either not be made right, or ***** silicone content... Silicone is extremely durable in its purest essence
- smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yeah vibrators last much longer than their motors ever do. Someone should invent modular motors for them. They'd make a killing.
- sremick, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Considering how brittle silicon is, it's not really surprising. How did you get them on to begin with???
Oh... did you mean SILICONE? - firstkipchak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1had the same thing.
looked cool, but broke off and smelled funny.
- GreySpec, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Must either not be made right, or ***** silicone content... Silicone is extremely durable in its purest essence
- MetaMars, on 10/10/2007, -30/+4More importantly, will it blend?
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17your lucky they don't make those blenders big enough for humans.
- firstkipchak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8BALL O FAIL
- nakile, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2Looks kind of phallic. It also kind of makes the remote look like a toy of some sort.
Still, I know I'll end up getting one. It's free after all, and won't be like those awful 3rd party ones.- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+34"Looks kind of phallic."
If your penis looks like that, I think you need to go to a doctor.- smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It might confuse him which to play with. He might accidentally neuter himself playing Metroid.
- nastajus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7anything can be called to look phallic. subways, buildings, anything longer than it's width. think, man. i'm burying this comment.

- bonyicecream, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18That is one helluva professional hand model... or CGI.
- kettlechips, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It looks like a normal hand to me.
- Machters, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1hey for having such a small hand and skinny compared to others you can even see the veins plus u cant see the artery that is located on the thumb line (is on the wrist on the thumb line) of the hand just try it yourself and you will feel a pulse. that's Wat we call photoshoped.. hahahahah xD
- 98acura, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Wonder if they have an identical hand twin?

- daridave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ya, same here... darn it.. I have two broken straps and never replaced them. do'h.

Why, are you making online more crappier than making it better then? :( Don't get me wrong, I like Nintendo, but the only thing that sucks is the online.- DMDekoth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He's right you know. Friend codes are an abomination, and there are hardly any online capable games.
- JonTheGoose, on 11/03/2007, -0/+37Goddamn, I love free stuff. Dugg
- prodigy311, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1So how do I get them for the extra remotes I have purchased.
- Schmapdi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6You can get up to 4 per serial number you enter, which theoretically is all you should ever need.
- grumbel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Except when you only bought a Wiimote without a Wii for use with PC.
- smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was going to post a smartass comment about a GeForce 8800 for my Wii but I think your comment is funny enough as it is.
- NSMike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1In that case, just don't be a dumbass and throw the thing.
- stuartcow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5if you have gone through all the trouble to connect your wiimote to your pc then i think you aren't the 12 year old or 80 year old they are really doing this for
- grumbel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Except when you only bought a Wiimote without a Wii for use with PC.

- tikited, on 10/10/2007, -13/+1Oh wow so this is your surprise nintendo, i don't care. How about announcing new wii colors like you said they would be out by spring of 2007, well your late.
- firstkipchak, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1link it or die.
- DraconWolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm pretty sure they're struggling just to keep up with demand for white consoles without messing with the other colors for now.
- nicko68, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, the WIi would be SO much more fun if it weren't white.

http://www.nintendo.com.au/nintendo/news/index.php - Schmapdi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I'm not concerned about my Wiimote flying off out of my hand (I'm not an idiot after all) but, after looking at the page they are pretty spiffy looking so I went ahead and ordered some. Classy move on Nintendo's part to be sure.
- mrboratsagdiev, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Definitely took advantage of this one. Unfortunately the post-submission page was down, leading me to believe my order didn't get through. I'll probably have four of these on the way (two of which I'll just give to another Wii owner).
- garble7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Same thing happened to me. Wanted to retry in IE, but i've already ordered it on my sn in firefox. i hope i get it too. seems to be stuck on the AddShipModeView for me
- bradcrc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6now how about getting my wireless keyboard to work in internet channel Nintendo? You got it to work everywhere else in the last update, so I know you can do it. :)

- magicite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Anyone else have the page erroneously tell you, "Our records indicate that your request for additional Wii Remote Jacket(s) has exceeded the maximum quantity allowed per Wii serial number."
Unless someone managed to snag my Wii SN at some point [unlikely given that I'm the original owner], something is amiss.- Squeezies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes, I am getting that, too. Yet when I go to the "check your order status" page, it says that I have no pending orders. When I first entered my serial # the page hung up, so now I'm SOL. ~ sigh ~
- XStatic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Taking orders now here:
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/jacket/jacketrequ ... - WebWorker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Besides the possibility of trying to curb lawsuits, etc.. This is a cheap way and fairly effective for them to get registrations from those who opted not to provide their info before. (or fake info)
- TheInimitable, on 10/12/2007, -1/+48I have no use for these.
BUT THEY'RE FREE- Zippo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15You make a compelling argument.
- MasterChi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Awesome, i was just about to buy those protective remote covers (silicon i think) for 20 bucks to prevent any damage to the remote from my sweaty palms. Good thing i wait, i enjoy free :)
- xtc46, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The order page is starting to Hang but i got mine ordered. awesome
- grivad, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1First they give out seatbelts to wrap around your wrist cause the supplied straps are apparently too thin.. and now they give out these diapers to wrap around the remote to cushion it..
How many retards are there still out there chucking wiimotes at their walls and tv's?- bingobongony, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah...because you have never had something slip out of your hand ever. Riiight. Give me a ***** break. You are on Digg. You can probably walk and chew gum at the same time without tripping. You dribble a basketball while looking striaght down at it the whole time, yet yo still bounce it off your feet.
- grivad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Wow, way to go! You must be one of the retards that needs all these extra precautions because they can't fathom the idea of holding something firmly when swinging it around, especially near expensive electronics. I am apparently also one of the few on Digg that grew up with and still plays sports as well.
I can say that I have never had a wiimote slip out of my hand, nor have any of my friends, or my friends kids. Ever. No straps.

- fragile00, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Gotta love good ol' Nintendo.
- bingobongony, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0yeah...doing something similar to what several companies have done before them. Correct a flaw.
- DraconWolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Correct a flaw? Do we really NEED this? None of my TV remotes have protective covers either, maybe I should idiot proof those.
- bingobongony, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0yeah...doing something similar to what several companies have done before them. Correct a flaw.
- tavisjohn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I ordered 3 for my 3 Wii controllers...
I wonder if any 3rd party companies that have already made simular skins upset... - mrdoogee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Confirmation page is down, like I've seen others reporting. But I ordered my 4. Nintendo wins even more points from me for this. This is how I like to be treated by a company. Now if only there were more awesome games....
- jasonpoon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8It looks weird...I won't let it cover the beautiful Wiimote.
- btnheazy03, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1they have nothing else to do with their money
- LaueOfficer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Did anyone NOT order 4?
- reekon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+45 comments up, Tavisjohn ordered 3....
- ELCad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I ordered 3.
- dotdan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I only ordered one--I only have one Wiimote. If they're shipping with the new Wiimotes, no need to stock up.
- VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -0/+10The title made me think they were giving a Nintendo Jacket away that made it so you couldn't slip. I was like ***** YES...
- danasghar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12how many of you R-tards are losing grip on your Wii remotes??? I hear Nintendo will also be giving away free ice packs for "pitchers" for between innings.

And for a laugh here is a link to the Silicone Cover "User Manual" http://193.88.35.62/fileadmin/media/footer_service ...- Gsicht, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hm. Nintendo does not seem to be aware of the fact that Europe consists of more than the UK and Ireland.
- sirmakman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0They pulled this same stunt when the new straps came out. Thanks Nintendo.
- Push2Flush, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2were you able to download that PDF, the link on the page doesn't seem to process the file, can put it up for download somewhere?
- Gsicht, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hm. Nintendo does not seem to be aware of the fact that Europe consists of more than the UK and Ireland.
- kravex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3From the European order site "We reserve the right to request evidence of ownership of Wii Remotes for which a Wii Remote Jacket is requested."
Anybody had an email back asking for Wii Remote serials yet?- smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Alright you got me. I went and looked. All of the numbering my my Wiimotes are identical. Don't think there's a SN there.
- kravex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's not a sticker it's almost looks like it's 'carved' in with a knife, both my Wiimotes have different numbers like this.
- smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Alright you got me. I went and looked. All of the numbering my my Wiimotes are identical. Don't think there's a SN there.
- danielmc, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2I don't know why you would need that I had a Wii for like a few month's before I sold it, how the ***** could you throw that control? I used to go ape ***** with that and never once threw it , Unless people are ***** retarded
- REBELinBLUE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Anyone know what that strap is that they show in the photo on Kotaku? I've never seen a Wii strap like that
- Push2Flush, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4thats the 4th gen strap;
1st one shipped with wii launch
2nd one looks the same only thicker at the latch point
3rd one had nothing labeling it Nintendo (looked 3rd party)
4th one has a lock to keep a tighter grip on your wrist- REBELinBLUE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ah thanks, looks like I have the 2nd one.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Those are the latest ones that are included now. I believe you can request them from Nintendo as well.
- Push2Flush, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4thats the 4th gen strap;
- homerowedasdf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2fugly.
- employeeno5, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I got a Wii on it's release day so I've been using it for almost a full year. And it's not just me who uses it, my girlfriend, her younger siblings, my younger siblings, my parents, friends, other guests at my apartment; everyone wants to play with it. Many of the people who have used it have no prior experience with it and most are anything but gentle. Often people using my system are drunk.
Not once has anyone ever thrown the thing, hit themselves, a household object or anything else. I'm using the original safety straps that breaks "too easily" too; I never replaced them and they've never given. Now I know it's possible for anyone to occasionally slip with anything, particularly something like a wii-mote, and I know that many people may often use the machine with small children who's grips and general ability to pay attention aren't fully developed. However, if you're over the age of 12 and throwing it out of your hand is a real and serious problem that you need to buy a product to help you with (assuming you don't have arthritis or some such condition) then you need put down the game, turn in your driver's license, quite your job or school and go spend sometime in a special home.- employeeno5, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Shame on me for spelling "quit" as "quite" and making "some time" into the compound word of another meaning "sometime", Seriously though, are people really having a problem holding a plastic stick?
- kinadian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I haven't had a problem or seen anyone with a problem yet. One person I know did have the wiimote slip from his hands once while playing bowling. However, the strap was nice and secure and it didn't break.
I think the people who have had the strap "problems" just didn't use it. They ended up damaging their equipment or injuring someone. Since people don't like to take responsibility for their own actions they are blaming the strap and are saying they used it properly. It's the only solution that I've been able to come up with based on the evidence I've seen.
- DarkSamus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1god damnit, i ordered two from ebay. those ebay mofos are ***** up, they won't change the color for you, they must send you a PINK one along with the blue one, wtf. Nintendo to the rescue!
- ienjoyrolling, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I think i see a new wrist strap in the picture.
- rjejr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Keeping in mind that most of you here are childless and haven't smacked a toddler in the head while bowling (toddlers are quicker than you think) I'm all for this. I've already scratched up the front of my wii-mote on my low ceiling while serving in tennis, watched my 2 young boys get very close to each others heads playing baseball, almost bought a 2-pack of these covers just last week 'cause they don't feel great in big sweaty man hands and only yesterday I was wondering why Nintendo didn't rib silicon at least the battery cover for a better no-slip grip. Now all my problems are solved FOR FREE. Let me repeat that last part - FOR FREE.
Yeah it's fugly, and it covers the power button, and may not work with 3rd party battery charging systems, but it's free. And for those of you complaining, don't put it on, and when you buy a new remote, take it off.- jaderobbins, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Some people just can't ***** take care of themselves. Our society leans more and more to lazy "let something fix it for me". Here is another solution GET A SOLID GRIP ON YOUR WII MOTE SO IT DOESNT GO FLYING. I'd hate to shake the hands of any of the people that want this, probably the worst cold fish handshake known to man.
- CaspianXth, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Take out your Wii and jacket.
- b3owulf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Bah! I have 5 remotes.
