RIAA Website Wiped Clean by “Hackers”
torrentfreak.com — Apparently the RIAA is so busy suing consumers that they forgot to hire a decent programmer. With a simple SQL injection, all their propaganda has been successfully wiped from the site.

It is most definitely not wiped. Plus anyone who could wipe it would obviously do slanderous inserts as well.- jkizzle, on 01/20/2008, -0/+13they did...
- Eeqmcsq, on 01/20/2008, -2/+9I can verify that what you said was correct. Once in a while, I saw real data on one of their pages. Too bad. :(

I second Eeqmcsq's verification of this. I went down the list of pages and saw content on their Key Statistics page. Refreshed the page and got the "temporarily removed" line.
Their database is indeed still intact. Article buried as inaccurate. - rhabd0mancer, on 01/20/2008, -1/+11There's a link to the Pirate Bay on their newsroom page.
RIAA done been wiped.- capiCrimm, on 01/20/2008, -1/+9that's not a real link, that's an XSS injection. Check the RIAA url, you'll see the pirate bay link in there. You can even change the url and the link will change. No one has insert access to the db.

- davidtookit, on 01/21/2008, -5/+0This is fake. Before I continue to comment, I have to make it 100% clear, I hate the RIAA as much as any other pirater. But the naivity of the general public is appauling. RIAA.com was bought anonymously when the domain last expired some time ago. The anonymous person kindly donated it to The Pirate Bay as a hack at the RIAA. If you look in the third image of the proof, you can clearly see that the javascript alert box has RIAA.com as its domain. To the few comments out there who have also pointed this out, well done! You are not idiots. Do some research before you digg something and for the person who made the article.

The RIAA's scapegoats seem to have a lot of the former and little concern for the latter, so the RIAA ain't doin' nothin' but pickin' fights they can't win. Those well-versed in the histories of Buddhism and Hinduism, feel free to correct me. Not that you asked any of this, I am simply interested in this modern belief system.

Websites can't be responsible for how their users act and Digg had nothing to do with the RIAA being hacked.- breezytrees, on 01/20/2008, -1/+16??? is definitely spot on.
universities can't be responsible for how their students act but somehow the RIAA claims they are and has sued various institutions across the nation. With this baffling logic, websites are easily fair game.- ByteGuerilla, on 01/20/2008, -0/+10ebaumsworld did it anyway.
- StarlessKnight, on 01/20/2008, -4/+2Universities control most of the internet access going in or out and can set up a firewall. DIGG has no way to monitor or block the internet traffic of its users offsite.
/Not saying the RIAA is right in holding universities responsible.
- breezytrees, on 01/20/2008, -1/+16??? is definitely spot on.
- eolite, on 01/20/2008, -0/+6Gorrilla warfare ?
- cannarymburns, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1duh, its king kong vs riaa. except king kong is just a silhouette, as the mpaa might sue. on another note, if digg doesn't fix their stupid commenting system, i might just go ***** myself.
- Scheissen, on 01/20/2008, -0/+17???
- bluzen, on 01/20/2008, -81/+4Wow, real mature. It would be funny, if this was not such a serious manner (media rights). Way to let the RIAA actually have a means to propagate their twisted message through a conduit media (by playing the victim). A better tactic would be to hire a bunch of lobbyist on our behave to push bills through Congress that conform to fair use of purchased media. You really can't rely on EFF to do everything.
- Kr4t05, on 01/20/2008, -1/+20But, this makes us feel so much better...
- bluzen, on 01/20/2008, -31/+3Go ahead digg me down, like I really give a *****. The truth is, these people are laughing at you. They don't really care if you hack their website. Its a ***** website. They already own the press (media and Congress). Worse, they own this community as well. At the end of the day, the other thing that changes opinion is money and they have a lot of it, and the so-called anti-RIAA community has none. Good luck guys, the battle is already over... you just don't realize that you've lost.
- giant81, on 01/20/2008, -3/+3Exactly!! The only thing that congress and the press see is money, and nobody rich enough to take on the RIAA cares.
You fight wars in the ways we can afford to. Unfortunately congress isn't one of them anymore. - ronaldinho, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1Um, so the way we fight back is to keep downloading (or for me, only buy the ones that really deserves my money)
That will teach them - nontitle, on 01/20/2008, -1/+1AFAIK, the anti-RIAA community is everyone who isn't part of RIAA. And who isn't you.
- bluzen, on 01/20/2008, -1/+0Look, I don't care what you believe. What I know is that in about two weeks this will likely be used against those who want to respect fair use rights. This is one of many incidents the RIAA can use in its campaign against consumers. Do you know how many bills have been introduced to Congress that decrease the rights of individuals. It is only a matter of time before one of them passes. I can just see it now. About a year a month from now some bill passing both the House and the Senate with both Democrat and Republican support that equates illegal file downloading to terrorism. You go from being an animal rights activists to a terrorist and a fair use advocate to a terrorist. Again, my only comment is why not stay on target and worry about the actual issue rather than spray painting the RIAA sucks (not literal) on their website. Do you think they are afraid or consumers or for that matter respect individuals? Summary: Just be the better person, position better arguments and try to bring the press back over to the side of fair use.
- giant81, on 01/20/2008, -3/+3Exactly!! The only thing that congress and the press see is money, and nobody rich enough to take on the RIAA cares.
- kinseyincanada, on 01/20/2008, -0/+18do you have a link to where i can torrent a lobbyist?
- bluzen, on 01/20/2008, -17/+2No, and that is why we will loose. Decisions within a society go with those with the most vested interest. In order to have this kind of political foot hold, you need money. For the RIAA and MPAA, it is simply a waiting game. They will eventually get all the legislation they need to secure their content (it will be hacked... file content), but it will matter little because it will be more difficult (example: Audible Audio or Blu-ray can be bypassed but at what cost to your time) and laws will make not only the distribution of copyrighted songs illegal but punishable by real prison time for mere owning of contraband.
Hacking of a website if juvenile and simply accomplishes nothing in the big scheme of things. It might makes us feel good, but it only serves as propaganda for them to go back to Congress with.- iticu, on 01/20/2008, -0/+7And this all depends on whether the good artists start to realise that they can make muchmore money than they could with the RIAA by selling the music themselves via download.
I say "good" artists because RIAA will still market all the crappy pop fad music, but who cares about that anyways?
- iticu, on 01/20/2008, -0/+7And this all depends on whether the good artists start to realise that they can make muchmore money than they could with the RIAA by selling the music themselves via download.

- shadowblade989, on 01/20/2008, -16/+44I love how the RIAA forces their position/policies on people in every possible way. Where other sites would put "Who Are We?" the RIAA puts "Who We Are."
- schmalzbauer, on 01/20/2008, -3/+2Yeah, that does seem rather pompous of them.
- DCstewieG, on 01/20/2008, -0/+23Oh come on, that's a stretch. Plenty of sites have "About Us" or something similar that isn't a question. There's plenty to complain about with the RIAA that you don't have to use stupid crap like this.

Hypothetically, I wonder what would happen if someone loaded something like the R57 script in there. (http://www.r57.li/r57.txt)- xxxana, on 01/20/2008, -0/+5hmm, I clicked that link and my antivirus went crazy :s

- unluckier, on 01/20/2008, -0/+2r57.txt is a PHP shell. i.e., it doesn't do anything to your web browser, or anything bad client-related at all. If you are able to get that PHP code on a PHP web server, on the other hand, you will have remote shell access to the system.
The two comments about AV flagging the content are somewhat typical. Reminds me of posts I've seen where people are asking how to remove some sort of "Java" virus. Where in actuality, the user at some point in time visited a web page that tries to exploit a java vulnerability. And that CLASS file being in the browser's cache is enough for the end-user to think they're infected with a virus, thanks to their AV software. - xxxana, on 01/20/2008, -1/+1Um guys, I clicked it earlier, and now my antivirus is turned off and can't be turned on :s

Riaa.com IS being hammered... so thats kinda cool- sarge96, on 01/20/2008, -7/+2It's official, the RIAA website is unreachable, at least according to my command prompt.

- SubaruPowah, on 01/21/2008, -0/+1Stalkers welcome.
- lucutus, on 01/20/2008, -0/+5Well they did remove just about all content. I'd call that a malicious hack. Every link I click results in "It appears that the article you requested has been temporarily removed." But the media player works lol! It's playing some horrible partial songs.
- unluckier, on 01/20/2008, -0/+17*Just* injection, huh? That means that a flaw in the web site can allow anybody can alter the content of the web site (which comes from a SQL database). The impact of that is non-trivial if you ask me.
What do you consider the requirements for a site to be "hacked" then? - cbuddha42, on 01/20/2008, -0/+11Probably more traffic this weekend than in the last month. Who the hell would go to the RIAA's website anyway?

- stfucupcake, on 01/20/2008, -0/+6And let's face it, this is as much traffic that the riaa site will ever see.
