- alex7575, on 06/18/2008, -11/+3So "anonymous" and "***** MrBabyMan", welcome to Digg.
Glad you made it, since we're running low on sheep.
I've seen people who were badmouthing MBM, and when you took a peek at their friends... they had him in their list!!! I mean, I knew Digg was full of losers, but wow... - skyroket, on 06/18/2008, -3/+3It's MISTER Baby Man, *****.
- AnOMNOMymous, on 06/18/2008, -4/+1Oh sorry Alex! I apologize that my friends are in REAL LIFE and not on my Digg account!
- alex7575, on 06/19/2008, -3/+1Considering your comment history, I highly doubt you have any friends real life or not.
How long do you think the "but.. but... but... at least I have a real life..." excuse is going to be valid for? Wake up.
A lot of "online" friends are friends who people met in meatspace, a lot of social sites can be used a collaborative tools to simplify real life tasks. But to people like you only use it to troll the interwebs anonymously, it may seem like "what happens on the internet stays on the internet".
have a good "real life" - AnOMNOMymous, on 06/20/2008, -3/+1My comment history? My comment history that indicates that I'm on digg less than 30 minutes a day? Yeah, I totally don't have a life. Boo ***** hoo, *****.
- alex7575, on 06/20/2008, -2/+2less than 30 mins a day??? LOL
your name alone has 3 digg (internet) meme's on it.
LOL, way to go.
- alex7575, on 06/18/2008, -11/+3So "anonymous" and "***** MrBabyMan", welcome to Digg.

- midriscoll09, on 06/18/2008, -46/+29I like Opera.
Go ahead. I'm ready. Digg me down.- P373Y, on 06/18/2008, -12/+6if opera gets adblock plus ill give it a try

- HigherLogic, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3Yes, us Opera users just browse around viewing ads all day...my view of Digg:
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/6454/screenct6.pn ...
- MuffinPatrol, on 06/18/2008, -5/+3I thought you said Oprah, thankfully you didn't.
- joshualamgroup, on 06/18/2008, -1/+5hey, opera is good. it'll be good if there's adblock, i'll agree.
i actually like opera 9.5, the new gui, everything.- HigherLogic, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2...Opera has a built-in content blocker. Right-Click -> Block Content... You can also download a pre-filled block list.
- Truth3, on 06/18/2008, -5/+10I used to be an exclusive Firefox user, but I just recently downloaded opera 9.5 and now I'm in love with their browser. Comparing it to Firefox 3, all I can say is that it's one generation ahead of Firefox. It has just about every feature that firefox added in 3.0 and WAY more. But there was two things that had me disappointed. The lack of integrated spell check and an Ad Block-esk add-on. That's until I found add on's that do this. Now it is actually better than Firefox 3.
This is how to get integrated spell check:
http://opera.gt500.org/ospell/
And an application that works very similar to adblock plus:
http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/
Another cool feature that Opera added, is if a webpage has trouble loading correctly, you can right click and "open with" firefox or IE. I thought that was a really cool idea, I've never had a problem with loading a page, but the option is always there. Try Opera out, and add the stuff I linked to above, you might just like it! BTW, I'm still liking the Firefox 3 update, good job to the Mozilla team!- saisumimen, on 06/18/2008, -2/+1People who get molested as children often become molesters themselves.
- acero47, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1The things you listed are all in FF3, so they're comparable, neither is really better. Personally, I also tried it out, and it just didn't feel right. Things just felt off when I used it. The only upside to Opera I found as I used it is that it had a slightly smaller memory footprint, which isn't a huge issue. Overall, they have essentially the same features, except FF is the one that "feels" better. The smaller memory is not enough reason to switch.
- HafizD, on 06/18/2008, -0/+9As long as you don't say IE, it's all good.
lol. - 30Seconds, on 06/18/2008, -0/+10I use Opera as my main browser, but anything that makes IE less popular is a good thing. The more people that download, the bigger the interest, the less people use obsolete software.
- eddie72, on 06/18/2008, -4/+2You evidently don't surf as much as some. There are a ton of websites out there that do not properly render in Opera. Firefox does not have that issue.
- 30Seconds, on 06/18/2008, -1/+2Opera is more standards compatible than Fx. More websites render properly in IE then either.
- HigherLogic, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2So using that logic, eddie, we should all just go back to IE.
- piwy, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Most sites render properly in ie because as webdesigners we are forced to make out sites as ie compatible as possible. Mostly because the vast mayority of people on the net still use the damn thing.
- applemachome, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1@eddie72
Firefox 3 broke rendering on uTorrent's web interface. I have to revert to 2 to use it.
- chazcross, on 06/18/2008, -2/+3I tried to switch to Opera. I loved everything about it until I tried to subscribe to a RSS feed by clicking on the RSS icon next to the URL.
I do not want to use its integrated RSS reader, I want to be able to easily add it to Google Reader like FireFox allows me to do.- HigherLogic, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1I believe there's UserJS that you can use to do this:
http://userscripts.org

- P373Y, on 06/18/2008, -12/+6if opera gets adblock plus ill give it a try
- Betrayal, on 06/18/2008, -24/+6Safari
- fireproofsoul25, on 06/18/2008, -4/+5Alright now you are just being silly. I mean he already said Opera above you. Opera is halfway decent but throwing in Safari, why don't you just say IE7?
- meatmcguffin, on 06/18/2008, -6/+4Because Safari has always been first to pass the acid2 and acid3 tests and is faster than firefox in both HTML render and javascript performance?
- HigherLogic, on 06/18/2008, -1/+3Actually, Opera was the first to pass Acid3: http://www.css3.info/opera-overtakes-safari-in-aci ...
Opera also has better support for HTML5 than Safari does.
And speaking of performance tests, might want to check this out: http://nontroppo.org/timer/kestrel_tests/
Both Opera and Safari pass ~200+ more CSS3 tests than Firefox 3 does, so I guess that's a plus for Safari.
- fireproofsoul25, on 06/18/2008, -4/+5Alright now you are just being silly. I mean he already said Opera above you. Opera is halfway decent but throwing in Safari, why don't you just say IE7?
- djphatjive, on 06/18/2008, -14/+2This is kind of pointless. Even in there FAQ they say there is no set record. They are just setting it themselves. So it could be any number. Yea Firefox for ...... Making a record!
- thedragon4453, on 06/18/2008, -0/+9No raining on my parade!
- maninalift, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7Do they count downloads from distros? Ubuntu have Firefox 3.0 on their servers (and no linux 64 bit version on mozilla).
- mem2, on 06/18/2008, -10/+1compile it yourself then crybaby
- shadekeiko, on 06/18/2008, -1/+9I dunno about you guys, but I am thoroughly enjoying this new "awesome bar."
- mofw, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1This is the one thing I do not like so far. It's too busy, and it slows me down. Plus on the initial attempts the URL's I want are too far down in the list. Hopefully this thing "learns" and will reorder better with time. But my initial reaction was:
"I sure hope I can turn this off"
- mofw, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1This is the one thing I do not like so far. It's too busy, and it slows me down. Plus on the initial attempts the URL's I want are too far down in the list. Hopefully this thing "learns" and will reorder better with time. But my initial reaction was:
- exomni, on 06/18/2008, -1/+3I still greatly prefer some things about Safari 3 on Mac:
Universal dictionary, progress bar in url bar, drag and drop tabs, ability to click url bar to place insertion point without selecting the whole ***** url, ability to just hit "return" to select first given autofill suggestion instead of being forced to always hit the down key, more robust history menu means less opening up the history window, robust services features and OS X integration, faster, not bloated with extensions and themes (already looks good enough it needs no other themes), better shortcuts and integrations of key features, CMD-T opens up a new tab even if you have the dowload window open, robust applescript support. PDF browsing in-line, etc etc etc.
Though there are things I love about the new firefox:
Slick integration of password saving in the toolbar, a history for recently closed tabs, auto-restoration of previous tabs on start-up (though Safari has this as a manual feature), handles memory better than Safari it seems.
A lot of these things seem like big features, but when it comes down to comparing the two browsers, often the way Safari has integrated them just works better, just seems much more thought-out and innovative in their execution, and always more cohesive to the rest of the OS X system.
Best browser? Arguably so. But it has its advantages and disadvantages like all good browsers. On Mac, I'd say Safari out-classes it in a lot of tests. On Linux and Windows, though, it is UNDOUBTEDLY the best browser available. - dragonrice, on 06/18/2008, -1/+3They're all Mac users.........
- MrBabyMan, on 06/17/2008, -16/+56For once, Taylor, I completely agree with you.
- paperboy6645, on 06/17/2008, -5/+84Wow. That was fast. It was a very seamless transition for me, although some of my extensions including skype are not compatible
- stretch611, on 06/18/2008, -0/+14It only happened because of the Colbert Bump. :)
- Seafea, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4Haha! I saw that too.

http://blog.delicious.com/blog/2008/06/delicious-b ... - evilregis, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1My del.icio.us add-on is working like a charm. It updated itself when I installed v3. It (Firefox v3) has been working fantastically thus far. I'm very impressed.
- martinjohansen, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2here you go:
- staffell, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2I can't ***** use linkification!!!

- HonestAbe, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Does anyone know of a good alternative?

- DeskFlyer, on 06/17/2008, -7/+94Mozilla says they are averaging around 14,000 downloads a minute.
- DeathGod321, on 06/18/2008, -2/+15It's too bad that they'll be hard pressed to beat the download record of Flash Player:
http://blogs.msdn.com/msmossyblog/archive/2008/05/ ...- Lukesed, on 06/18/2008, -0/+12Does flash player really count? I'm sure we could find an even larger number for any windows update.
- DreamSynthesis, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7Presumably they are talking about actual site downloads, not upgrades which don't count since they are automated. Not surprised though that Flash would hold a record for this.
- chimaera2005, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4I don't think flash player counts. Considering we've been in the 64-bit computing age for quite a while now and there is STILL not a 64-bit native version of flash player available, yet I can already download 64-bit Firefox 3.0.

- Ravatar, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Apples and oranges, flash automatically prompts for installation on internet browsers, or usually the site will provide instructions on automatically installing it. Most people who install it don't even know they're "downloading flash".
This is for software people are purposely downloading.
- Lukesed, on 06/18/2008, -0/+12Does flash player really count? I'm sure we could find an even larger number for any windows update.

- dalectrics, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Haha - Mongolia had 0 pledges but even they have managed to clock up 600 odd downloads. Come on Kim Jong Yil. I bet even YOU want Firefox 3, even if the rest of your country isn't allowed it!

- clogmoney, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Just to warn my fellow developers I have found that setting breaks points isn't working quite right since I upgraded....
- Ravatar, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Yea I noticed the JS breakpoints only work sometimes. They usually correct if you refresh the page :(
- Onestone, on 06/18/2008, -1/+89Firebug is already updated and works fine with FF3.
- amenic, on 06/17/2008, -5/+17Wonder how much better it would have been without the 2 hours of downtime they had earlier today. Probably won't matter. Those who couldn't get it before will just come back and get it later!
- zwaldowski, on 06/18/2008, -1/+7They started the 24-hour count after they came back up.
- trav12221, on 06/17/2008, -12/+3Better than expected

- Dracusis, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4psst, it's cool to hate macs cause there are less seeders on all the mac torrents for pirated gamez and softwarez, get with it dude.
- thegreatanti, on 06/17/2008, -6/+18Almost 2 millions. Man, this is going insane. Just a little over 6 hours live and already 2 million downloads. Maybe in 24 hours 8+ million downloads. Firefox 3 is the best browser ever. Congrats Mozilla!

- tainc, on 06/18/2008, -4/+4Wrong, the counter is having a hard time keeping up, and is actually out of sync with the total count. If you RTA, the true count is well ahead of the counter.
- njhardc0re, on 06/18/2008, -10/+3ok sooooo what the hell is different.. my first impressions is that it seems to load pages faster and more efficiently.
Other than that, what the hell new do I have to play with?- eddie72, on 06/18/2008, -2/+9The main purpose of Firefox 3 wasn't to add fancy features but was to make the average joe's internet surfing more enjoyable by lowering the memory usage of Firefox and increase it's page rendering speed. A lot of people don't have cutting edge PC's and so quite a few I'm sure really enjoy this new release.
I have a older laptop in the living room that feels like a new PC with FF3 installed. - smackjack, on 06/18/2008, -2/+8try using it for more than 30 seconds.
- Ajajadude, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7It's really just more efficient and faster, like you said, plus security updates like these new icons that tell you how secure a site is.
- bonds, on 06/18/2008, -0/+12It's a web browser.
- jackcrack7, on 06/18/2008, -1/+4The Awesome bar (URL bar) is pretty cool. It searches urls and page titles to help you find pages without having to remember the address.

Beyond that, never type the address in the address bar so it can't recall it, and your good to go...
Hide your porn in the sports section of your bookmarks under fictitious names, she'll never find them there ;) - TalahRama, on 06/18/2008, -0/+0Actually, this was pointed out in another Digg submission. Type in the name of your favorite [porn] site. When the results pop up, press shift + del and they won't appear anymore.
I'm not sure if it includes longer URLs (www.redtube.com vs www.redtube.com/Firefox_Porn). Can anyone clarify? - mithrasinvictus, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1AFAICT url history can be wiped with "clear private data" or am i missing something?
- bencho, on 06/18/2008, -0/+0a quick google search will notify you that ff3's Smartbookmarks are somewhat permanent as of right now.
clear private data does not work. unless they fixed that in the last 30 minutes.
i will try that shift+del*

- skyshock1, on 06/18/2008, -8/+2Excellent. Now just fix the jerky scrolling on OS X and pass Acid3. It'll be king again.
- vawksel, on 06/18/2008, -0/+6Yeah, it's a bit disappointing FF3 didn't set a goal to pass Acid3.
- Mard, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2FF3 has been in production for like two years, Acid3 came out in March of this year. It was never going to happen.

- Syphon8, on 06/18/2008, -3/+35Firefox 3 just got the Colbert Bump!
- Dumbledorito, on 06/18/2008, -11/+3Out of curiosity, are they also counting how many people downloaded the "Spore" creature creator today?
- Bluntman4000, on 06/18/2008, -4/+41Colbert Bump FTW!!!
- kitsua, on 06/18/2008, -6/+6Can someone tell me why private browsing is not yet implemented in FF? It seems like such an important feature and one that still ties me to Safari. I would have thought that it would be a no-brainer to include it in the standard program.
- mithrasinvictus, on 06/18/2008, -1/+10Private browsing?
You mean clear all history and cookies etc. upon closing the program?
You can do that through options, privacy.
If that is not enough for you, you can use the "distrust" extension.- kitsua, on 06/18/2008, -1/+3Yeah, I know, I'd just rather click on an option that automatically writes no data to my hard disk while I browse - it feels safer and is more convenient and tidy.
And an extension is an extension - my point is that it should be written into the standard release by default. I just find it surprising that it isn't already.- epohs, on 06/18/2008, -1/+10I disagree. This is not a feature that would be used by a majority of daily users, and as such is better suited to being an extension.
As it stands I think a few things are included in the Firefox core that could be turned into official extensions. That said FF3 is really a great release. Congrats to the community. - mithrasinvictus, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7Everybody has their personal preference, my ideal browser would not need that feature and yours would probably exclude some of my "essentials".
That's what great about extensions. You have a lean fast browser and you can add just about any functionality you need. - Knowltey, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Firefox was written without certain highly desired extensions on purpose, if they included all the "extensions" that people wanted the memory footprint would be huge, and only half of it would be of any use to any particular person, so they let you pick and choose extensions.
- epohs, on 06/18/2008, -1/+10I disagree. This is not a feature that would be used by a majority of daily users, and as such is better suited to being an extension.
- jmreid, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5Erasing ALL your saved data isn't ideal. It's nice to turn on private browsing and do your thing then turn it off and continue on your way.
- kitsua, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3Yeah, good point.
@mithrasinvictus - fair enough.
- kitsua, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3Yeah, good point.
- patch, on 06/18/2008, -1/+2Why is mith getting dugg up? That is an absolutely horrible solution. Luckily I don't care what my browsing history looks like, but in the past I've had to switch browsers as to not disrupt/soil someone elses browser
- mithrasinvictus, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Cookies that i care to keep are flagged as permanent and wont be affected by clearing private data.
- kitsua, on 06/18/2008, -1/+3Yeah, I know, I'd just rather click on an option that automatically writes no data to my hard disk while I browse - it feels safer and is more convenient and tidy.
- Kornstalx, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5They've already stated they're considering adding Private Browsing in the 3.1 update. FTA.
- ZimFreak, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1done
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/130 ... - Nickdotnet, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1ahh...pr0n browsing....
- ljmunz, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Agree with you this should already be implemented. But it sounds like its coming in FF3.1
BTW, private browsing is not the same as 'clear all history, cookies, etc' or any of the current FF extensions (Stealther, Distrust). Private browsing does not write anything to disk.
