- Euan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought Vista MCE was a real disappointment. A nice new skin and the ability to create your own plugins is nice... but the programming language is complicated.
It just didnt add enough features over 2005 so I switched to Media Portal http://www.team-mediaportal.com - charlas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Media Center for Vista I believe added enough, yes I agree the plugins can look a little daunting at first, but they are not rocket science by any means if you have a decent C# level in the first place, the biggest disapointment so far is that the XAML tools just don't exist to make it easier (yet).
The Vista experience is much more than just a jig of the skin though, there is now true 64bit mode (for EMT64 users), although no support from the community for codecs yet! and the inclusion of DVD/MPG2 stuff certainly adds value.
Plus as my Wife likes to point out, at least Vista works, where MCE2005 (and a version media portal I tried a while back) suffered with reliability and 'non techy' user freindlyness. - charlas, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Agreed about the MCML, if the tools existed life would be so much easier to write stuff.
