- TyroPyro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+67It's the real RTM disc image. I imagine the scene groups and others will start toying with it and use it as the source for a cracked release.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -66/+7So is this link just basically a notice to the Warez world that a release has been made and we need to search it out in our IRC channels?
- kingatrock, on 10/12/2007, -70/+9no, the "warez world" wutever the fuk that is, knew about this long before someone bothered to make a digg story.
- sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -3/+228Jesus christ, let me clarify a few things for you people, before you (yes YOU) decide to read any further.
1) If a piece of pirated software is "nuked" it means exactly what it says. If a release is bad, it will be deemed nuked or 'not working' by the scene. This means, you shouldn't waste your time downloading it. There are several sites that measure the competence of pirated stuff, and the author of this Digg has linked you to such a site.
2) RTM means Release To Manufacturing - this 'leak', if it is indeed legit, means it's the final retail version of Vista that you will be seeing in stores.
3) Vista hasn't been cracked yet. I've seen several different conflicting stories about what works & what wont. I would save your bandwidth for when a REAL cracked version comes out, that all of us can use. Your RC2 key probably won't work, so don't bother.
4) The size of the RTM Vista image will not matter. You need to remember that some groups split up discs in to several smaller RAR files, for contiguity. In case one part of your download is bad, the whole release won't be *****. This could mean that several different releases might have several different sizes. There will be some fakes, but don't count on guessing, unless you happen to be ripping a retail disc yourself.
There, I think that pretty much clarifies everything. - sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -4/+49In case you're still wondering - my rant doesnt indicate whether this is real or not. I have no idea. People like to screw with each other, so this could be 2.49gb of porn, for all I know.
Even if it is legit, I have absolutely no way of getting it to work without some kind of activation trickery, much like 99.9% of the rest of us. When I do decide to install Vista, I don't want to have to test to see if it works, I want to reformat and take the plunge.
I think the rest of us are in the same boat, so just wait, and be patient. You'll see a cracked version soon enough. - klawz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+68@ sinner0423
1. Agreed
2. This version (BILLGATES release) is not nuked, and it's legit.
3. The crack IS out, and it allows the 30 day limitation to "reset" (which I speak of below and it has been dugg down for some reason) - Additionally, you don't need to enter ANY key at all to get it installed (leave the key blank when asked, and click next, just like in RC2 and RC1), and working for 30 days before it goes into "limited mode"
4. Agreed - sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -26/+16thanks for clarifying.
i think you've been modded down cause you haven't included any kind of instruction. - klawz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20no problem - and as a second thought, I agree with you that it's not been cracked yet. As a time-reset is not technically a crack, maybe more or less a "hack".
- PARAPA, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4If a piece of pirated software is "nuked" it means exactly what it says. If a release is bad, it will be deemed nuked or 'not working' by the scene. This means, you shouldn't waste your time downloading it. There are several sites that measure the competence of pirated stuff, and the author of this Digg has linked you to such a site.
This could also mean that it is not released upto the standards of the scene. Not necessarily bad or wrong. - gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1"This version (BILLGATES release) is not nuked, and it's legit."
klaws, the disk image is corrupt for me. Thus, nuked. - Hellsadvocate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16The real torrent is right here, I believe it just came out im downloading:

- Mandeep, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Yes, there has been a nuked release, but there are two others that aren't nuked. Should show up on nForce soon.
- Araxen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+64This release is legit. It just isn't cracked. Apparently M$ has really good protection this time around. It'll be about a week before it's cracked open.
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15You can install it w/o a key, just won't last but a few days, then you can re-load it, if you wanna -use a virtual machine to wait out the few hours to a week to crack it.

However, I have never bothered to learn what the hell "nuked" and "unnuked" mean. Anyone want to enlighten the dim wits among you.
- pipdip, on 10/12/2007, -66/+2I think nuked means that any security features have been disabled.

Warez Nukes
Another definition of a Nuke is the one used in the warez scene. A warez release is nuked by other groups or individuals if it is found that it's not installing or working as expected or has false information. The warez group that made the release may nuke it if a proper release (a release that works as expected) is made. - scotty588, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Refer to this http://www.vcdquality.com/index.php?page=faq Very bottom
Basically same stuff for software. Theres something wrong with it in short. - Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3Read world analogies:
Laptop batteries have been nuked
Some brands of acetaminophen have been nuked
Bridgestone tired were nuked - kubudubudubuntu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29GrayOne: your not in any leet warez scene just because you download warez......
- patrickbwells, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4try this for a google search, and remember google is your friend:
define: nuker - ceralor, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2For clarification's sake, mIRC is a program that allows you to cruise IRC, and a ***** one at that. Check the open source community for, say, X-Chat 2. And get the free-build windows version. The main for-windows developers are charging to download it.

Ha ha... n00b couldn't get into the scene. Learn to serve, bub. - joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Maybe... just maybe.... Gray One doesn't give a ***** about "the scene" and just wants to download stuff. It's not like it's ***** brain surgery. You don't need to read up on the "lingo". It's all ***** anyway so who gives a ***** if he never bothered to google "nuked" to see what that "special code" meant.
And lose the "n00b" it's not 2002. Make up some new words. - phaed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ohh man. another one of those. look man. first erase kazaa, winmx or wetf kind of gnutella client u got thats making u think ur in some sort of scene. then if u wanna actually contribute u can do some research on how things actually get done. start here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FXP
then u can start by learning how to scan for pubs and what to do with them. heres an old but valuable resource for newbies:

thats as far as i can take u. from then on, like the rest of the world, its all about relationships.

- audiopollution, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9From: http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/nuked.cfm
"In the Internet piracy scene, a release may be NUKED for several reasons. In the case of a movie, it may be because the group responsible for the release requested it, or there may be something actually wrong with the release, such as missing rars or out of sync audio." - Marijuana, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3GrayOne I asked myself the same question and I came up with the definition.
Nuker is the name of the position given to an individual in charge of making sure that every title that gets released by a warez group follows the rules of the topsite. When a nuker finds a release that does not follow the rules, he "nukes" it; he takes away the download credits that were given to whoever uploaded the bad release. Generally, when a nuke happens on a topsite, it is followed by most nukers on smaller sites.
Now, anybody care to explain what DELPRE means?- scotty588, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Delete pre-release I believe
- *Ica*, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, a pre is when the release is announced by the group, usually done via a 'SITE' command on one of the scene group's FTPs. Then it shows up in scene databases and searches when someone searches for a release.
- TacoX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8When a release is nuked it means it either not legit or there is something wrong with it.
edit: beaten - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Well, it just appeared basically /everywhere/ (Torrent, IRC, UseNet, etc) so time to wait for the first people (Suckers) to dl and tell us if it's working. It's on Demonoid, TPB, etc.
Also, apparently the CYGiSO and most other releases are fake.
Anyone suprised at the size ? I mean, 2.49GB is quite small unless this is just the x86 release or maybe the 'other' final release (About 3.4GB) is the real one, who knows. - Marijuana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33I found out how to get it to work from another source:
"Unplug your internet connection, restart, go to bios, set the date to 12/26/2006, install, disable time sync with internet, put the date back to bios, and plug in internet :) this is it, the countdown will stop"- pipdip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Hmm... sounds logical. Anyone wanna try this out? I just might myself...
- AndrewLZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i've tried this exact method using Windows XP.

Digg and speed the inevitable piracy, making MS realize the folly of thier closed-source ways; yet at the same time encouraging the use of their product?
-or-
Bury and discourage software piracy (which i'm not such a fan of after switching to free software); perhaps encouraging a few users to switch to GNU/Linux over windows....

i don't like piracy either, but you're just using the anti-piracy moral ground as an excuse to shove your opinion about how wonderful you think linux is compared to windows. - drilldown, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4***** Vistas. Bad juju for now.
- rootneg2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9hey, i never said "Linux > Windows" i simply would like to see more people using a free (as in speech) operating system for (for lack of a better term) political reasons. I suppose I shouldn't have only mentioned GNU/Linux; MacOS (a BSD variant), or any of the BSDs, or the HURD, or heck even Plan9 would be fine too.
Windows is a fine piece of software, and probably actually worth the price you pay for it; proprietary software can be a Good Thing. But I think that having a piece of closed-source code (and non POSIX compliant at that) as the industry standard desktop operating system is dangerous. Windows has it's place, just not as the "default" operating system.
As far as the connection between piracy and FOSS goes. FOSS renders piracy obsolete, so using an anti-piracy moral stance to push a free operating system seems pretty sound to me.

I'm downloading this, AND I've already purchased Vista.
BTW for anyone interested, If you buy the OEM version of Windows MCE2005 w/Free Upgrade Coupon for Vista from Newegg, you qualify for Vista Home Premium for free (+shipping).
There's been a whole controversy Re: the newegg upgrade, so here's my live chat with the newegg representative:
Thank you for contacting Newegg. My name is Joyce. How may I assist you today?
Andrew LZ: Hi. I purcahsed Windows XP MCE 2005 earlier today which ad an offer for a vista upgrade
Andrew LZ: the terms of the coupon are somewhat unclear to me
Andrew LZ: I've seen some conflicting information - the coupon itself says that it's only valid for a pc purchased with MCE 2005 pre-installed on it
Andrew LZ: but it seems that since it's OEM software, upgrading a current PC to MCE 2005 would qualify, otherwise I don't see the point in even packaging the coupon with the software
Joyce: Actually if you purchased our windows xp professional/MCE with free upgrade coupon to vista version, you will be qualified for the upgrade.
Andrew LZ: oh ok that's good news =)
Andrew LZ: what would I have to do to prove to microsoft that I qualify for the upgrade then?
Joyce: I suggest you contact Microsoft for detailed info since the qualification is determined by them. For your reference, Microsoft: 866-452-4755 http://www.microsoft.com/
Andrew LZ: so it's a possibility I still get refused?
Joyce: I don't think so. However, if you get refused, please feel free to contact us for further assistance.
Andrew LZ: great thank you so much for your help
Considering that Newegg has the best service ever, I feel pretty confident this will get worked out.
Back to the point, this way I can toy around with Vista before I get it officially.

http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/526837/5426554/ - fety, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6Can anyone explain how the "FINAL" version is different than the recent RC2?
- GuyHersh, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34lol.. RC2 is build 5744, and RTM (Aka Final) is build 6000.. Which if you've been following the betas, is a HUGE jump.
Also, final is virtually bug free. At least no show-stopping bugs. There will still be some program compatiblity issues and developers upgrade their programs, but thats why MS is waiting 2 1/2 months before release to public on Jan. 30, 2007.
Also.. thats a dumb question. Any avid computer user should know the final version of a program is much better than a previous beta... - fety, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Thanks, I figured it was better, virtually bug free is an understatement.
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@GuyHersh
You aren't quite right there. RC2 was 5744, and the release is 6000, but that is an artificial increment, in order for the release to be a nice round number. There were several 6000 builds, as they found bugs with a couple of "final" builds and had to fix them. Microsoft could not possibly have made the extra 250 or so builds, as Windows requires almost 24 hours to compile using Microsoft's massive server farm. I'm sure that this is pretty polished, but every Windows launch has seen its fair share of bugs, and you can bet that Vista SP1 will make most of those better. Even with thousands of testing machines, you can't always catch every bug thats gonna show up when a hundred million "users" (read: dumbf*cks) start installing it on their machines. - klawz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4for me, it's about 30% faster than the last version of RC2 I was playing with.
Plus it has all kinds of other "goodies" - one I just found was the snipping tool, which I don't remember it being in RC2 (correct if you saw it), and it's just very very snappy and fluid. I don't like the sounds, in my opinion they suck. - cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jozer99,
You are partly right, they round up to 6000 from the last "stable" build to mark the point where they can no longer find any show-stopper bugs to fix, and when the remaining number of issues is below an acceptable level.
AFAIK, there were several re-builds of the build that became 6000, but it was not called 6000 until the final review meeting where they decided that the latest build was "it".
- GuyHersh, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34lol.. RC2 is build 5744, and RTM (Aka Final) is build 6000.. Which if you've been following the betas, is a HUGE jump.
- digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1i bet logitech still doesnt have a web cam driver for vista yet, fsckin logitech, no mac/linux support for *****
- ashchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Um... Vista doesnt technically launch until Jan for consumers. Logitech has LOTS of time to release Vista drivers.
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I have lost all respect for logitech in the last few years, their drivers have gone to utter *****. I have a $100+ keyboard/mouse setup and use just the basic drivers, and not install their crap-ware.
- Grayfox777, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Will the drivers be any different? Vista is NT 6.0, after all.
- ceralor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How is it 6.0? The kernel's too different. And about webcam drivers? Just install the ones for XP, but do a custom install and don't install the Desktop Messneger or the Imagestudio software, just the two driver components. My cam works fine, save the microphone.
- fjc8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some drivers work. For example, in RC2, old audio drivers worked as did old (XDDM) video drivers*. However, they don't support all the features that they would have if they were native Vista drivers.
*The Intel GMA 900 (915GM) drivers from XP, as of RC2, support 1080p, while the included Vista WDDM drivers only worked at 1080i. - digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1trust me, i have installed the regular xp driver, and not the software, it does not work in vista at all
- digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Hate to double post, but wondering if this is the x64 version of ultimate?
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+832bit, and just so you know ALL binaries (all the versions, corp, home, home basic, home basicn, ultimate, etc etc) are on the DVD (ISOs in this case), don't be fooled by the fakes that seem to have 5 different dvd isos.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -13/+7maybe it's ACTUALLY bill gates who released this to the topsites, and this is just another beta, and WE'RE the guinea pigs, and we don't even know it!

OMG!- mikesol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's funny, I thought of that when I saw the name of the releaser.
Chances are it's just someone that's active in the scene but didn't want to attach their name to it.
- mikesol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's funny, I thought of that when I saw the name of the releaser.
- Escamillo, on 10/12/2007, -14/+23So it's already been leaked, made the front page on digg, and you guys have the gall to bitch and moan about activation?
Why do you think activation exists? It's because guys like you pirate warez so much. It takes a hell of a lot of nerve to pirate software than bitch about the evils of activation and WGA.- CocodaMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31To be fair most people here arn't complaining about WGA or activation. Although it is something to complain about. Like most people in IT i've seen plenty of legit and pirated versions of windows. When it comes to copy protection on windows I can honestly say I've only ever had issues with it when using legit versions. It's much easier to use pirated versions of windows then it is to use legit versions these days. Of course the same is true with some games now as well.
I wish people would learn, anything with more then 1 million users is going to be cracked. I don't care if you spent a decade making it impossible to crack, if you've got a large user base it will get cracked. If you release something with copy protection and it doesn't get cracked you can rest assured it's because your product wasn't very good, not because the protection was impossible to beat. - brindon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10CocodaMonkey,
Yeah, I've only seen activation probs with real XP too. My Dad's out-of-the-box Dell started bitching and moaning about being pirated 2 wks after purchase. We had to install one of those WGA removers (Dell of course didn't provide an XP re-install disc). I had to enter a SECOND XP serial # (one of two I bought) because I unplugged the IDE cable to one of my drives and switched the USB port the keyboard was connected to.. then it bitched "This computer has changed substantially since it was first activated...etc" - which was 24 hours prior! #@$#@$ing Microsoft. - Escamillo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Of course you're going to have no problems with activation for pirated versions of XP, because those versions are nothing more than leaked copies of the corporate versions which require no activation (MS was naieve enough to believe that corporations wouldn't leak the corporate versions; well they did, and coporations now pay the price for that because Vista has no "corporate activaction-free" versions.
The fact is, activation wouldn't exist if not for piracy.
And it's ironic that the digg "community" bitches about activation and WGA while at the same time promotes piracy. This thread not only declares "LEAKED VISTA AVAILABLE!!!!" but provides links to torrents as well. That tells me that the digg "community" and communities like it are a big part of the piracy problem that leads to companies putting activation into their programs.

- 8ight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1instead of www.newzbin.com use v3.newzbin.com ... it's much nicer. i've been using it for quite some time. and they only offer the v3 layout on their newzxxx.com site.

Microsoft.Windows.Vista.Ultimate.Edition.2006
Now that sounds good. - brindon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If you have a 64 bit processor, make SURE (and I mean SURE) you have Microsoft signed drivers for your hardware. My SATA drive and audio card (quite high end too) never had MS certified drivers - so I have to hit "F8" EVERY SINGLE TIME I load Vista. And there is a chance they may disable this too...which would then make Vista impossible to boot on the SATA drive.
And no, there will never be signed drivers - the companies/teams have moved on to other products. That is the reason I will not be upgrading to Vista. Sucks eh?- cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What manufacturers do you have for the SATA card and audio card?
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That of course depends on who manufactured your motherboard, not Microsoft in most cases. Mine does have x64 SATA and SATA-II drivers, as does my 3 year old Promise PCI-IDE card. Both work perfectly fine with Vista x64, XP x64 and Server 2003 x64. Yes having to install them is a pain but really, how often do people need to reinstall the entire OS?
- brindon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3STKD,
But Microsoft is fully responsible. The drivers, which are special SATA drivers, work perfecty, and are written by the controller manufacter - but Microsoft is denying access to them because they were not "signed" by Microsoft. The controller manufactuer will not release new drivers, they have moved on to other things. So now I have to press F8 EVERY TIME I run the OS? That is a patently ridiculous scenario.
And what if MS decides to, as is their wont, to disable access to non-signed drivers? That means my awesome soundcard and even the hard drive won't function.
Again - no new drivers are being released. But 64 bit drivers do exist and work perfectly. It is, absolutely Microsoft's fault for such an insane policy.
- Catamount, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1i have a question for anyone who could help me out (hopefully)
Can i extract the vista iso to my c: drive, and install it from there? I did it with mce2005, worked perfectly (i have a dvd player, but no dvd burner, so this is what id end up doing with vista too- ceralor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Are you one of those people that wishes you could hack your optical drive's laser into being more powerful and act as a burner? DVD burners are cheap anymore! Get one off Newegg for $30.
- mdshort, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yes you can, I didn't have a DVD Burner either so I just extracted it to my secondary 40gb hd and used that to install vista. When you extract it make sure you run it in windows. I think it would work if you didn't have a second hard drive, if you made a small partition for vista alongside your full partition, just make sure vista doesn't format it.
Some people just don't understand that everyone doesn't have an OMFGZORS DL DVD+/- LIGHTSCRIBE ROXZORS COMBO SATA DRIVE.
However, that doesn't mean thats its not in my Christmas wish list.

- elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28To clarify a few things:
-------------------------------
About 80% of the people in here are total morons.
This copy is LEGIT. It has not been nuked, and it WORKS. If you can't get it to work, its your fault and your ***** preconfigured MDG or Dell machine is probably ***** up from you trying to install some RAM sideways or some *****. If you don't have a DVD burner, the only solution is to quit bitching and go pay like 30$ for one. Don't bitch about how you can't install warez because you don't have a dvd burner. Just piss off and get one or quit bitching.
The crack requires you to replace the gold version of vista's activation routine with RC2's so you can use a RC2 key. (If you don't know what 'gold' means, just close IE and leave)
USE YOUR OWN RC2 KEY, THEY'RE FREE.
If your cd image is corrupt, don't go on about how you're 'nuking it'. You don't know how to nuke something, and saying you're nuking something in a ***** digg comment just makes you look like a ***** retard.
Lastly, I won't be installing this for at least a month or two before I hear that Microsoft didn't include a hidden portion of vista dedicated to tracking your noob ass and shipping you off to jail. Good luck. - wush, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Might as well wait for the 64-bit version.

- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3No way am I downloading/installing this. My desktop is stable at the moment and I don't need Vista screwing that up with bad drivers etc.
- ThinkFr33ly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How is everybody activating this? The product keys are not on MSDN yet.
Are you using the beta 2 / rc 1 / rc 2 keys? I was under the impression those would not work.- Marijuana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Go here:

Thursday: Windows Vista is teh SuX0Rz w/ DRM!!1 Die M$! I'll never use ur ***** pr0ducts!
Friday: Hurray! Vista is RTM and I'm going to pirate it!
Saturday: Vista is teh SuX for n00bs... Hurray Ubuntu!
No but seriously guys... wtf? You spend years bashing Vista, DRM, WGA, and Microsoft and how Ubuntu is an OS with magical powers that will save the world and then you try to pirate Vista only to complain when it doesn't activate? Double-U Tee Eff?!- H3g3m0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You are of course assuming absolutely everyone on Digg is of one mind and that comments posted by a hand full of people interested in an article are by the same people who posted in another article.
Did you ever consider that people who like Linux post in the Linux related articles and windows the same?
Also I do hate Vista and its crappy DRM and I'm a Linux user, but that won't necessarily mean I won't dual boot it. Windows won't be going anywhere for a while yet, I can still hate something I am forced to use, I can also still think its better than XP for a lot of stuff (I don't actually know as I haven't tried Vista myself). XP was a dramatic improvement over 98 for me. - hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Excuse me while I assimilate this comment into the hive collective for everyone to agree on.

- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I have had an amd64 computer for two years now, and the funny thing is that now that vista x64 is coming, my computer actually might run faster in the future than it does now
- kurrent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8enjoy your software and driver support
- H3g3m0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The difference between x32 and x64 is very minimal. I noticed almost none if any speed improvement from XP to XP x64.
As for driver support I didn't have much problem their either. I think the main one was daemon tools, which afaik has x64 support now. Maybe if you have some older/odder hardware from smaller manufacturers you might have problems.
I would be intertested to find out if Vista has better multicore support than XP but not realy x86_64 related.
- justahuman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1billgates pissed..vista leaked..!!
- danmed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok so i've used the crack for it and it works.. although slight panic when i rebooted without reading to the end of the file and it asked for my serial :( good job i backed it up to usb drive!
but now how do i get rid of the "evaluation copy" text on the desktop? and is this now going to expire when the release candidates were meant to?- pipdip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes, using the current crack. It will expire when RC 1/ 2 does. That date is June 1, 2007. But that time, I'm sure a new, better crack will be released.
- phaed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ha! the same things happened to me. i get to the end of the file and i realize i need to go hunt for one. i reboot and i cant get in to use the internets. totally bad form
