126 Essential Freelancing Resources
freelanceswitch.com — The web is such a big and wonderful place, packed with tools and resources which you all too often don ’t know about. So to help all you freelancers out there we have compiled a gigantic list of resources, categorized up for your benefit.
- 957 diggs
- digg it
- bluephoenix, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15this list isn't practical...it's too bloated...here's my offer based on experience
timing app - http://www.toggl.com
invoicing - open office / excel
project management - a $1 notebook with .50 pen
getting work:
www.guru.com
www.rentacoder.com
www.project4hire.com
www.elance.com
all these sites offer a free profile and mostly free bidding on projects
If you spend all your time with these other project management sites you'll never get anything done and never make any money.- winmywii, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Can I hire my own Indian on any of these sites?
- tamar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5From the article: "If you know a resource that we’ve missed, let us know as we’re always looking to grow this list!"
I'm sure they'd like to hear from you.- bluephoenix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2that would only add to the bloat
- mobilitatis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I actually use Tick, activeCollab, and other tools fro this list and still have plenty money and time
- Enochyang, on 10/11/2007, -14/+4PLEASE FIX THE MOTHER-FU$#@INGGGG COMMENT SYSTEM!
- Pile, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Any alternative to Quickbooks for handling bookkeeping is essential. Quicken is like mafia. Now that they have market share, they make their programs stop functioning and force you to pay outrageous amounts of money to get the latest tax tables. It ought to be illegal.
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2How did this spam jump all the way to the top with like two comments on it?
- HitLines, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Missing from the bloated list is: http://yourcitty.craigslist.org/ggg/ (gigs section)
- BlackAdderIII, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 @Error601
I'm not sure. I believe the new comments system was inspired by a wall of opaque mist.
The list is good though, just what I'm looking for at the moment - at this rate I won't be doing police ID parades for 5 bucks by the end of the month with all the other freelance programmers and writers who are regulars down there. Who knows. - uslacker, on 10/11/2007, -6/+0Does everything that mentions the web belong in the technology category
- fl00d, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Yes
- uslacker, on 10/11/2007, -6/+0Does everything that mentions the web belong in the technology category
- fl00d, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Yes
- mobilitatis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Does everything that mentions the web belong in the technology category.... Once more
- Dubbsacc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yes
- ukdave, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Nice list - Thanks for sharing :)
- CircleFusion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Has anyone here used LedgerSMB?
It's a web-based open source accounting program, but I don't know if it's popular at all, or if many businesses have used it successfully as a quickbooks replacement. It's built with Perl and PostgreSQL. - Sil369, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1600+ diggs, frontpage coverage, and only 18 comments (19 with this one), I take it not many Diggers go Freelance.... X(
- FluffyDesigns, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0The list is a pretty good resource
a couple of additional sites where freelancers can find work, and lest not forget, service providers and others can outsource their work.
http://www.odesk.com
https://www.it-globalized.com
http://www.scriptlance.com
There is a few sites like this out there, but a very select few offer escrow services and has a reasonable level of security. In my experience the sites with the best overall security etc are:
