- ISurfTooMuch, on 10/20/2007, -2/+127Thank God there's some sanity still left in Congress.
If you have a moment, give Sen. Dodd a call or drop him a note to express your thanks. He's going to come under a lot of pressure for doing this, so he'll need all the support he can get.
Dodd, Christopher J.- (D - CT) Class III
448 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON DC 20510
(202) 224-2823
Web Form: http://dodd.senate.gov/index.php?q=node/3130- hiphoc, on 10/20/2007, -2/+13Don't get too happy yet. How many times has the congress pretended to stand up then back down right before vacation. Winter break is coming up look out everyone.
- ISurfTooMuch, on 10/19/2007, -2/+12No, the battle isn't won by any means. However, I'll take any glimmer of hope I can. If someone is willing to stand up for what's right, then I'm willing to give him a virtual pat on the back. It's the least I can do.
- hiphoc, on 10/19/2007, -3/+5Americans have been looking for a glimmer of hope for 6 years now. Every time we stick our noses out to search it gets broken. Its time to read the ***** on the walls and see that there is a pattern here. Remember Charlie Brown and the football? Yea, same ***** thing here.
- darnit, on 10/19/2007, -2/+4Literally the very least.
- Myonosken, on 10/19/2007, -1/+4@darnit: I don't know what he could reasonably do to give further thanks.
- Dred, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2Nah he is just mad cause he didnt get his check yet, so he is sending them the message he wants his money too. It will be all over as soon as they send him his money.
- ISurfTooMuch, on 10/19/2007, -2/+12No, the battle isn't won by any means. However, I'll take any glimmer of hope I can. If someone is willing to stand up for what's right, then I'm willing to give him a virtual pat on the back. It's the least I can do.
- NoStoppingUs, on 10/19/2007, -2/+2they haven't passed one appropriations bill. i don't think they'll get much of a break. as it stands, they'll be working well into december.
- OBKenobi, on 10/20/2007, -2/+13In 2008, I am voting to secede.
- zip000, on 10/19/2007, -1/+4I sent him a very positive message: I just wish the senators from my state (Georgia) weren't douchebags and would do good things like this.
- Dred, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1If you and all your friends in your district start calling your senators and congressman, you might be able to sway their votes. The person who answers the phone keeps a log of for and against. They want to keep their voters happy too.
- zip000, on 10/19/2007, -1/+4I sent him a very positive message: I just wish the senators from my state (Georgia) weren't douchebags and would do good things like this.
- usrlocalbin, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1I went to the web form and thanked him for doing what he is doing regarding this.
It's nice when an elected official (Who was elected by us the people) actually does something to help us. - ClosedCaption, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I have one question:
The Telecoms need immunity for WHAT? Simple question..whats the answer? - sotopheavy, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1I wrote one of my Texas senators and said that his stance on SCHIP was the second to last straw and if they vote on any bill that would give these companies immunity they would break the last.
Funny how on his website he supports SCHIP but in the subtext you see it is a compromise he supports, not what congress sent to bush. - HayString, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I don't know about doing all that but I'll certainly digg you up.
- hiphoc, on 10/20/2007, -2/+13Don't get too happy yet. How many times has the congress pretended to stand up then back down right before vacation. Winter break is coming up look out everyone.
- ISurfTooMuch, on 10/20/2007, -2/+33Also, here is a link to Sen. Dodd's press release on this issue.

I found it after going to his contact page and sending him a message. It was quite easy, so, if you have a minute, please do the same.- natelloyd, on 10/19/2007, -2/+2Unfortunately, Senator Dodd's voicemail is full =( But I did get on the rat fink's voicemail who is backing the bill... I wonder if he'll grant me retroactive immunity for all of the illegal things I did in high school like I asked...
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1If you call around now (3:30 on friday) his office is still open and taking calls. I didn't really say much other than that I felt it was excellent that he was taking a stand on this issue and gave my name and the state I'm from, But I guess every little bit counts though right?

- Frosty122, on 10/19/2007, -2/+5will do thanks!
- eatspie, on 10/19/2007, -45/+2Who's this Senator Dodd? He oughta be kicked in the ass.
- thelastcivilian, on 10/20/2007, -2/+55A politician with balls? Satan must be feeling a little chilly.
- OBKenobi, on 10/19/2007, -3/+8Don't get too optimistic yet. Let's see if the Democrats actually stop this bill, because one of the people trying to pass it is oligarch "Democrat" Jay Rockefeller.
Every conspiracy theorist out there will no doubt be amused by a Rockefeller being behind this.

- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/19/2007, -1/+23I filled out the Web Mail form and gave him some props. :)
- jonesin, on 10/19/2007, -2/+17Thank goodness someone is doing something to stop this endless corruption. Go Chris Dodd!
- sclifford, on 10/19/2007, -2/+20In addition to giving Dodd props, as UtopiaInTheSky did, I've also contacted both of my Senators to express my vehement opposition to giving immunity to the telcos for egregiously illegal acts. I hope other Diggers will do the same - http://senate.gov - and follow up your online comments/email with a call to each of your Senators.
- zip000, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2I have done so as well - thank you for the link which made it a little easier to do the right thing.
- LBobRife, on 10/19/2007, -2/+13Thank god for him, if I lived in Connecticut I would vote for him just for this. I'm so glad a piece of good news has come out of congress. Well, a temporary hold on the bad news at least. It's so refreshing to read a story like this. A senator with some balls. Who knew?
- buddhistMonkey, on 10/20/2007, -1/+11Dodd is also running for President, so you could vote for him in the primaries if you wanted. If he keeps this up, he just might have MY vote.
- EricTheGrey, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2Quite frankly, he's got my vote. I've not voted, or even registered for the past several presidential elections because none of the candidates were worthy of support. Dodd may well break that trend.

- BotBeGone, on 10/19/2007, -3/+4I just called a left a message thanking him for standing up for something that isn't the most popular thing in the world. I hope he gets how much these internets things help those that do well and yet harm those who choose not to. I heart my constitution.
- nakani, on 10/19/2007, -2/+5Dude, they ILLEGALLY wiretapped our asses! Why is this a taboo subject, is America that brainwashed!?!?!
- BotBeGone, on 10/19/2007, -2/+5That's just the thing. Sen. Dodd is going to stop the bill that allowed telcoms immunity in the first place. This is a good thing. America may be brainwashed but I know this community and on the average, we are not brainwashed. so yea! your mom! ; )
- nakani, on 10/19/2007, -2/+5Dude, they ILLEGALLY wiretapped our asses! Why is this a taboo subject, is America that brainwashed!?!?!
- sturat, on 10/19/2007, -2/+10I was so happy to hear this today! If this bill goes through, it guts our 4th amendment protections. F*ck yeah! Go Dodd! I've already e-mailed him to tell him how happy I am that someone is standing up for the soul of our country. The Constitution.
- hiphoc, on 10/19/2007, -7/+8OK, this guy is a democrat... So let me make a crazy prediction. He is gonna pretend he is holding the bill back. All the idiots out here in America will think he is doing a good thing. Then just before winter break the law gets passed, congress goes on vacation and the American people wipe the blood from their assholes, the spit from their faces and limp away waiting for the same thing to happen on the next ***** law..
- vwvan, on 10/19/2007, -1/+15Dear Senator Dodd -
Thank you for holding the telco's accountable for illegal and warrantless wire-tapping. I worked for Alltel in Little Rock, and the FBI basically had carte-blanche there. My supervisor there was James Ellis. I now work on my own as a software engineer and see the abuses of power, as recently occurred with AT&T which attempts to shift the burden of proof onto the customer, rather than accepting responsibility for what they do in secret. - dmh11686, on 10/19/2007, -26/+4Dodd is just pandering to the left-wing democrat base in order to bolster his pathetic presidential campaign. Really Sad.
- insomniac8400, on 10/19/2007, -3/+10So you support the bill?
- zanzzz, on 10/19/2007, -3/+3Seems to have made a few people happy.
- theeEqualizer, on 10/19/2007, -2/+9Hey, dmh11686! Fox news is giving more tips on smear campaign talking points for conservative idiots! Its on right now! You're missing it! Run to your TV! Hurry, dumbass! Hurry!
- rz8472, on 10/19/2007, -2/+6Don't worry, it's like the home shopping network. The "smear campaign talking points for conservative idiots" show is their only show.
- johnlabmonkey, on 10/19/2007, -2/+3Wingnut go home.
- rz8472, on 10/20/2007, -3/+29While Senator Dodd's stand is admirable, Sen. Russ Feingold probably has been fighting against retroactive immunity for months, if not years already. As the only Senator to vote against the USA Patriot Act, Feingold is ahead of the curve on so many issues - opposing the war, calling for troop withdrawal, protecting civil liberties, and censuring the president. It usually takes at least several months for the other democrats to realize his ideas were right all along.
- OBKenobi, on 10/19/2007, -3/+6Let's not argue about who takes credit right now. The most important thing is to ensure that this bill does not pass! AT&T, Verizon and the other telecom monopolies involved in illegal wiretapping on behalf of the Bush misadministration must be prosecuted for their crimes so that something like this can never happen again.
The world is watching, America. - jeremyduffy, on 10/20/2007, -4/+2So why didn't Feingold stop the bill? According to the article I read on it, the Senate requires a unanimous vote for a bill to go forward. That means anyone could have stopped it at any time.
- TwistedSheep, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Your high school didn't have a civics class, did it?
- SpencerMc, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold
On the Senate Intelligence Committee’s Consideration of FISA Legislation
October 18, 2007
“As a member of the SSCI, I will strongly oppose any FISA legislation that fails to protect the rights of law-abiding Americans, overseas and here at home. When the Committee considers this legislation today, I will also fight to reject immunity for anyone alleged to have cooperated with the Administration’s illegal warrantless wiretapping program. The documents made available by the White House for the first time this week only further demonstrate that the program was illegal and that there is no basis for granting retroactive immunity to those who allegedly cooperated. The one silver lining of the flawed FISA bill passed in August was that it had a 6-month expiration date. It would be shameful to miss this opportunity to fix the law. It is time for Congress to stand up for the rights of Americans and to defend the Constitution and the rule of law.”
- Dushan29, on 10/19/2007, -4/+10Senator Dodd doing the right thing for all Americans who care about the US Constitution and their rights. Bush is the jerk who said the US Constitution was just a "goddammed piece of paper." It's time to put a stop to Bush's Hitlerism.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Every time I read that quote somewhere it makes me sick. If the consititution is just a goddamned piece of paper, then maybe he's just a dry drunk in a big ***** chair, so let's not take him seriously either.
- QuickeningYak, on 10/19/2007, -13/+1If a 2008 presidential candidate had done this, then it might seem like a worthless do-nothing publicity stunt/attention generator, but this isn't fishy at all.
...Oh. Nevermind.- theeEqualizer, on 10/19/2007, -2/+3Yeah, please. Nevermind. Nevermind trying to pretend that you're so insightful that you're ahead of everyone that has something positive to say about Dodd's actions. We've already seen the pseudo-intelligent "I see through things" conservative commentators. You're not an original either. So by all means, yes. You nevermind either.
- QuickeningYak, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Believing an elected poltician isn't out for his own ass first (if not only) is gullible. Your numbnuts snide-ass personal ***** comments don't change that.
- theeEqualizer, on 10/19/2007, -2/+3Yeah, please. Nevermind. - OBKenobi, on 10/19/2007, -4/+6This is a deciding moment for the Democrats. If they pass this bill, then they will prove to the world that they have no more credibility than the Bush administration.
- darnit, on 10/19/2007, -3/+1"Update 3: Welcome Diggers:"
- pintomp3, on 10/19/2007, -3/+8thank dodd.
- kernel16, on 10/19/2007, -2/+5Big telecom companies are so used to dealing with China it probably felt natural for them to hand over information...
- d1a1s1, on 10/19/2007, -4/+2This should be on the top of the front page! Whats wrong with you people!? Heres an instance where we actually need to come together. Ive seen diggs on cat videos move quicker! Wake UP!!!!! Contact Dodd AND YOUR senator!!! The links are in this thread...it takes 3 minutes!
- kerrytacobell, on 10/19/2007, -3/+3DODDZILLA! That's the way to show some balls, Chris Dodd should waterboard G.W. til the cows come home!
- foxhaze, on 10/19/2007, -5/+2I was the 666th Digger of this story. Awwwwww yeah.
- PIPBoy2000, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Thats pretty lame, but wait! If you were a metal head you'd be making a retarded face while shooting up devil horns in the air while hitting your cat licking itself next to your computer chair!
you own a cat in this scenario because cats arent metal obviously :

- Ephraim2007, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1just sent in my thanks, i hope he can stop it.
- foxStick, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Here's the site for the members of the Senate Intelligence Committee. If you're one of the member's constituents, you might want to try contacting them as well.
http://intelligence.senate.gov/memberscurrent.html - Fallout911, on 10/19/2007, -1/+3I just called him.
Guys it's fast and gets the message through.- mizenerd, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0Follower
- damansternpak, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2Just called also. Said "I am very proud that Senator Dodd will stand up for the citizens of this country rather than cave in to lobbyists and telecom companies."
I - seneyr, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2I'm originally from CT and this is awesome. I'm very happy to see Sen. Dodd stepping into the limelight finally. About time our "other Senator" got some publicity :) Where's Hilary in all this? Seriously.
- mytruckhasdents, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2I just emailed Senator Dodd and let him know that Digg members support him. I also took the time to email my Senators and urged them to support Senator Dodd. Everyone who agrees with him should do the same- not sure who your senator is? go here and send them a note: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/ ...
- NipsMG, on 10/19/2007, -1/+4"Dodd is just pandering to the left-wing democrat base in order to bolster his pathetic presidential campaign. Really Sad."
"If a 2008 presidential candidate had done this, then it might seem like a worthless do-nothing publicity stunt/attention generator, but this isn't fishy at all.
...Oh. Nevermind."
Hey, I don't care if he did it to bolster his presidential campaign or not. I don't care if he "really cares" about this issue. I don't care if this is a political stunt. It's a step in the right direction. He did the right thing, and all Americans should support him in this initiative, whether you want to vote for him or not. Are you saying from your comments that you SUPPORT granting immunity to corporations that acted illegally and supported illegal warrant-less wiretapping of American citizens?
I love how people are so willing to suspend constitutional rights because we're in wartime. Just remember, if and when wartime's over, do you really trust your government to suspend these programs because wartime is over? NOT ON YOUR LIFE. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Even if this power was granted for a benevolent cause initially, don't think for a second it won't be abused and used against you after the cause for it's inception is gone. Get a clue, the constitution is here to protect us, and eroding it for temporary security is a surefire way to the downfall of this country and an every increasing police state. - don1one, on 10/19/2007, -1/+0If you really want to thank him, donate to his campaign for president.
- ralph12c41, on 10/19/2007, -8/+1Buffoon = Senator Chris Dodd
- tommasz, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Too bad he's a Democrat, Their record on getting legislation passed and overriding vetoes tells me this is doomed.
- HypocriteDigg, on 10/19/2007, -1/+3Do you know the difference between 51% and 66.6%?
- cluckinchicken, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2What the f**k?! It's tough to get legislation passed because of this ridiculous 2 party system, where most of these numb nuts just vote on party lines. And don't talk about vetoes. Isn't it amazing that Dubya didn't veto a single bill until the Dems regained some power?
- AlanJV, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2While I'm excited that someone finally stood up against this, something tells me that he won't be able to get the job done in terms of getting enough support from the other wussbags.
- floatingpoints, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Good luck... takes more than one person to stop anything in that corrupt ***** place.
- cluckinchicken, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1I'm really surprised there isn't more outspoken outrage among our elected officials, as well as from the American public. People shouldn't live in fear of terrorism, nor let their rights be diminished by this fear. Somehow, this administration is killing the checks & balances in place, and without that, we have abuse of power...which is nothing new to this administration unfortunately...
I don't know about him being the candidate that I will support at the next election, but kudos to him for standing up....for US! - hirshi, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1That's my senator WOO
- trevorjez, on 10/19/2007, -1/+3so the telecom's who committed a crime go free - while qwest's ceo is in jail for not helping the government spy...i mean, for insider trading? something is very suspicious with this...i hope dodd pulls this out.
- TheIguana, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1When is the rest of Congress going to speak out regarding this disturbing trend in Washington? Where are the other senators and congress persons in regard to this kind of legislation? And why is it so damned hard for the Republicans to speak out against this? Spite for the Democrats means ***** when civil liberties are at stake, but I guess that is lost on politicians these days.
- designer, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1What's it like to be a dumb ass liberal?
- mizenerd, on 10/19/2007, -0/+0My God, so much crap on DIGG is poitical whining...
Bush does this or says that. Don't you people realize that Presidents of both parties (past and present) lie, cheat and steal? It's not just the current Administration. - fixedcoma, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1finally someone who sees the scheme and is stepping up to the plate! My prayers are with you Dodd
