Taking a Gun to a Flat Screen Monitor

- theciuffo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+105Should have gotten the KWC Deagle (or maybe I'm just cheap like that). But I have a funny story about this. I used to work at Circuit City and we had a guy coming in to purchase a 55 inch Hitachi plasma (really pretty display). We asked him if he wanted the mounts, cables, and all the other ***** you tack on to the sale. He said no, because he was replacing one that he shot with his pistol. Apparently, the guy just got mad and decided it would be a good idea to shoot his $5k display. Needless to say, we didn't offer him a protection plan!
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -22/+4I have one of the KWC desert eagles (the c02 version) and it shoots a lot harder than the TM desert eagle. He should have used a KWC.
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+60Would have been better if they had a psychedelic visualizer on in the background instead of the boring windows screensaver. But they do get bonus points for not adding in crazy screamo jungle music.
Awesome nonetheless, it kinda looks like mold! - diggaccount99, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3I guess he was out of bullets...
I would have kept them coming!
DESTROY THAT MONITOR ;) - rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -8/+54This doesn't scream safety to me.
- cwshea, on 10/12/2007, -25/+2Dumbass.
(The dude who shot the f-ing monitor)
Lame.
Just send it back and get it reparied. - archlich, on 10/12/2007, -11/+64If only it was displaying vista, that'd make an awesome ad.
- michaelkirk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36All I can think of is:
"You'll shoot your eye out, you'll shoot your eye out....."
I would like to see him blame that on a icicle. - hammerpants, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4Ctrl+Z? Did you try that first?
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+137I was waiting for the holes to close up like T-1000.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14this would make an awesome flash game
- raindogmx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34Desert Eagle + Duck Hunt FTW
Now take that stupid dog! - lanlocked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13That reminds me of a similar display (no pun intended) of ignorance I once witnessed. I was a trainer for a medical imaging company and traveled quite a bit. I was in an airport with a fellow trainer who had a Dell Inspiron 8x00 series laptop that had a bit of trouble with the display. Anyone familiar with these laptops knows that the ribbon "cable" that attaches the display to the video card will cause that behavior. Despite my warnings, he insisted that twisting the display was the only remedy for the problem. I watched this clown as he twisted the display until it broke. The display was very similar to that in the video afterwards :)
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6We've all been there.
- FoodForDog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I was waiting for that creepy little girl to appear: "It's the mirrors"
- Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11wow awesome looks like a biological cell being taken over by a virus or something, A nice 21st century update to the old throwoing a rock through a CRT, which is still very fun.
Awesome!! - Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5^^^^^^^^^^^^
@cwshea
but then we wouldn't of been able to waste another 2 mins of our life watching cool useless videos. - andy17null, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@rstarr
The video isn't very clear in describing that this is an airsoft pistol, which shoots plastic BB's, not metal ones. They sting but usually won't break skin. - meishme, on 11/08/2007, -2/+12He should take a screenshot. :)
- iamdw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2yea, airsoft can definitely do some decent damage. Had a similar experience with a Tokyo Marui G36C by accident - thought i was clever when I shot a 1/2 inch lamp pole from one room to another ... then i turned on the LCD and noticed a lil' hockey puck sized impression. Deflections' a bitch...
Funny, it sucks especially noticeable during hockey games since it's the same size as a puck on the ice and it show complete black on a white background (the ice). Otherwise i've grown used to it on my 37-inch Westi... argh - streak, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1What a shame! Nothing was broken with that display originally (except XP ;-) Those kinds of problems are easily resolved by a little rubbing. Shooting holes really did it in, though.
- djm91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i wonder if the warranty covers shooting your LCD screen?
- ij00mini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why the hell would it?
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -22/+4I have one of the KWC desert eagles (the c02 version) and it shoots a lot harder than the TM desert eagle. He should have used a KWC.
- brianbb98, on 10/12/2007, -78/+4no one could possibly believe thats a real gun. bb? maybe.
- mookiemookie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40It's says in the video that it's a Tokyo Marui airsoft gun.
- trry96, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15it says it's a BB gun
- dan0964, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11"no one could possibly believe thats a real gun. bb? maybe."
are you actualy a little bit retarded ? - cardyology, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yeah its a Tokyo Marui scale replica that fires 6mm plastic BB's. Great fun (unless you shoot your TV)
- flygirl62, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, yeah, but I was misled, too, by the title of the digg post "Taking a Gun to a Flat Screen Monitor." Just somehow made me think that we were talking about what most people mean when they say the word "gun" with no qualifiers.
- hbweb500, on 11/08/2007, -5/+103Either he has faith in his aiming, or he has little regard for his drywall.
- scrag10, on 10/12/2007, -33/+1They don't go fast enough to do any visible damage to a wall, after all they are plastic BB's. My bro. has the same gun and he shots it around the house all the time. He also has a a Uzi like that, they are kool.
- hbweb500, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Ive been hit by the BBs before, and yeah they hurt. If they did that to the glass on the monitor, I think they would at least chip the wall, just a little.
- MaxPayne3476, on 10/12/2007, -26/+3Lol, its a flat screen, there isn't any glass :)
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Having been in a "glass in a LCD" argument before, yes, there are two layers of polarized glass in an LCD monitor. Thats part of the fundamental idea actually.
http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/lcd2.htm --link - Clbck, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4I've dented my closet door with an airsoft gun...You could probably make marks on your wall.
- Doorfingers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3or he was 3 feet away from the monitor
- sphinx13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have about 50 little dents in my closet from shooting at targets in it with my KWC M9 and I think that one is more powerful.
- BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3airsoft will certainly damage drywall. if I had a camera I would show you.
as someone who does have little regard for his drywall(there's horrible flowery wallpaper that I haven't gotten around to replacing)
airsoft BBs will leave little craters in drywall, and wood.
they aren't too noticeable but they're definitely visible.
- kbeeveer46, on 11/09/2007, -10/+88That was really disapointing. Thought it was going to be a real desert eagle. Use a real one and I'll digg it, not some whimpy BB gun.
- EricJD, on 11/08/2007, -15/+3"Whimpy"?
- livetheride, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Cool Whip?
- mrbobo34, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2edit: nm beat by livetheride
- tateswayz91, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18@ live the ride
Don't you mean "Cool hWhip?" - Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Yes, EricJD, "Whimpy".
When discussing guns, any airsoft gun is below whimpy, however powerful it might be considered in the airsoft world - An airsoft gun that can break the skin is considered overly-powerful, right? - LordLucless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I don't think he was complaining about the characterization of the gun as wimpy - he was questioning the spelling.
- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ tateswayz91
"You're eating hair!"
- trry96, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Ok Elvis...
- icepick314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26why even bother with a bb gun when you can have much more fun with Wiimotes flying at everything from plasma to large LCD panels to windows?
- zeromancer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and ceilings and walls and friends... oh my!
- battlefield1985, on 10/12/2007, -21/+1um ok...http://digg.com/videos/comedy/Gun_Vs_Flatscreen_Monitor
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2your descrition are horrible. You tout it like its a real gun not a bb gun.
- battlefield1985, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1excuse me...just clicked the digg button on the site is all...both titles say gun in the same context.
- MaxPayne3476, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3awww poor battlefield didn't his on the front page :(
Digg isn't a penis game
- nickrct, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26An actual Desert Eagle would have made that screen just blow up into a thousand pieces. Just ask Agent Smith.
- RG13, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23It's true
ive seen it happen...
....
....
...in counter strike
- RG13, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23It's true
- AngusMustang, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
- redlemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13dugg for the engrish. damn that was beautiful.
- bolero421, on 10/12/2007, -65/+3The sheer waste depicted in this video disgusts me, typical American consumer whore mindset. "Oh, I don't want this mutli-hundred dollar LCD anymore. I guess instead of donating it to someone I'll just render it totally useless by shooting at it with an airsoft pistol and post the video on the internet. Wow I'm smart!".
- AlwaysDuggDown, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44The sheer waste dipicted in your brain disgusts me, typical forgeiner whore mindset. "Oh, I don't want to actually watch the video and see that the LCD was broken and useless before he shot it--I just want to get a dig in at America because that's the idiotic obsession that is my wretched life"
- coviecarbine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8first of all bolerao it was busted already, watch the video and you would know.
anyway I never would have believed it if someone would have told me that's what happens, sweet how the blobs merge like that.
Damn AlwaysDuggDown beat me to it - LocalH, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Hey bolero - ***** YOU AND DON'T HAVE A NICE DAY, *****.
- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11bolero, you realize you're going to have to give up your name now and go somewhere else as you are officially marked as an idiot.
- bolero421, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1@AlwaysDuggDown - Great job jumping to conclusions. I'm American, so go wave your flag somewhere else. As far as watching the video, maybe if you were actually paying attention you would have noticed that the "previous damage" was almost identical to that caused by the airsoft gun, complete with small-impact point with spider web cracks and the the same vertical color-banding on the screen. Coincidence? Who knows, maybe the screen fell off his desk onto a small pointy object in such a way that resulted in near identical damage patterns. Somehow I doubt that.
@yournamehere- I hope you'll excuse me when I say I couldn't hardly care less what you think of me.
Thank you coviecarbine for not resorting to childish attacks on my intelligence and character. My ignore list grows quickly enough as it is...
- floridiot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+81He should send it back saying there's over 7 dead pixels.
- zephyr42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17 dead pixel rule was the worst warranty idea ever created.... ever.
- ndiderrich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I really don't give a ***** how bad a BB gun hurts but I was really expecting someone taking and USING a real DEagle to shoot the monitor.
- u3b3rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd love to see a real gun shoot an LCD, but you'd have to shoot around the inverter and display circuitry, or it'd go out, and then the video wouldn't ooze.
- TridenTBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought it was a real deagle also. But then I was wondering wtf that LCD panel was made of to stop a full blown deagle from having its bullets go through and why it was so quiet.(Would have been hilarious with real deagle...BOOM things breaks in half)
- @nival, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2btw, has anyone played duck hunt on a flat screen lcd screen?...it wouldn't work would it?
- MaxPayne3476, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I think they demystified this. I believe it actually does work. Though I AM NOT POSITIVE.
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Lethal Enforcers (SNES light gun game) doesn't work on a HD CRT, so I really don't think it would work on a plasma or lcd either. I haven't tried it on my LCD television yet though...
- laxmaniac3773, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5i think he should shoot it with a real desert eagle. then send it back saying its got more than 7 dead pixels
- staffell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0i bet if you strapped some c4 to a flat screen monitor it would be more impressive
- andergriff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Was hoping for a 12 gauge....oh, well.
- GregJSchneider, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Looked like he was shooting T1000.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The submitter got my hopes up.. A BB gun is hardly exciting.
- r3dk9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you could round up a bunch of LCD monitors for cheap, than I would say that using one would be an excellent Airsoft/BB target ^^
- light50, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6**Plot Spoiler**
this is lame... - emailingRob, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1"Take one broken monitor. Yes it was broken already, I'm not so stupid I would shoot a working one."
Was it broken because you, er, shot it? - Sebach, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3He should have used a KSC Glock 18c on it (full auto) at the end. Br-r-r-r-r-APPP!!!!! Zzzt. *puff*
- Xylem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14No... No...
He should have used a Nuclear Bomb on it. that would have been wicked!!!
This was a cool video, but he should have taken it out back and played some gangsta music to be like the scene in Office Space.
- Xylem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14No... No...
- mlbfan560, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Try that with a CRT.
- AimlessAbyss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Awesome, it looks like a bunch of amoebas or some other types of unicellular organisms.
- diggaccount99, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6The funny thing is the monitor is still working after 15 bullets...
- digginestdog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It reminded me of that multi-touch blob thing from NYU...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJKDBfdwabk - dagr8tim, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2We did things far more distructive with bb guns when I was like 10. Buried as lame.
- chingy1788, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Looks like the surface of the moon
- TheN0id, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0That was lame.
- miaj, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1it would suck if he found out all he had to do was restart it.
- haxorjoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If you own a pair of eyeballs (usually come standard on every person), you'll see that something smashed into the LCD already.
- S1L3NTC, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Thank you for making it patently obvious you have no understanding of the device you just used to display your total lack of intelligence.
You restart a computer. It has an operating system.
You turn a monitor on and off. It is a peripheral.
Please shut down your monitor and read the User's Guide to your PC (or Mac) before you make an ass of yourself again. - blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, while were nitpicking--Technically, a monitor computes some too. Something has to display "NO OUTPUT SIGNAL" whenever it's not plugged into anything.
- Sil369, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Coming up next, a flamethrower.
- m00kie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1dude, why don't you kill yourself ....
- Sil369, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1After you. *snicker*
- aximbigfan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3if i shot a flat screen with my .17 cal airgun (NOT airsoft, its a real airgun) the lead round would go straight through the monitor and the next 2 walls that it encountered on its 1,000fps journey....
- u3b3rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The solid copper or steel 6mm airsoft BBs would do quite a bit of damage too. You can upgrade an AEG high enough to kill small game (don't ask).
- urgan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3eh, nice screensaver you got there...
- aznmikex215, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2looks like cancer
- truegodofwar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Sure the monitor was already broken. But now his wall has a bunch of bullet holes that need patching.
- aximbigfan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2his gun doesn't leave bullet holes, it is an airsoft gun which cant puncture paper at point blank range.
- S1L3NTC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Shouldn't the truegodofwar know the difference between an airsoft gun and real firearm?
- Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@aximbigfan: An AirSoft gun will easily penetrate multiple layers of cardboard and skin, depending on the gun. My spring powered rifle will penetrate glass and the bottom part of aluminum cans. AEGs will be somewhere between a pistol and a rifle like mine. You're talking out of your ass.
- fightclub, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Looks to me like another "WINDOWS VISTA" problem!
- koolaiddude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Thats counterstrike to the next level.
- AETAaAS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Friend : "Is that a dead pixel?"
- cjwl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7When can we expect to see the BB gun effects plug-in for beryl/compiz ?
- darkphoenix939, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3already done...its called plasma
http://forum.beryl-project.org/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=3889
well its something like that :P
- darkphoenix939, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3already done...its called plasma
- kevinarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1OK, now that was stupid.
- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5damn, all the counterstrike jokes have already been made.
- wolferz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just so every one is fully aware. While air soft guns are technically bb guns, the BBs they shoot are not metal. They are a very soft plastic. Metal BB's traveling at the same velocity would have shredded the lcd. I felt a need to bring this up because of my past experience with people who assume air soft is dangerous cause "all BBs are metal" and my past experience with the media labeling guns loaded with metal BBs as just ordinary airsoft guns. It gives the sport a bad name for no reason. Not to mention you'll likely screw up your gun if it's an airsoft gun.
I saw a video like this before. Its was a big screen tv and when it was over their wasn't really much left of it. The video in question used an air soft mini-gun firing 6mm steel BBs at around 10k rounds per minute. The tv was completely shredded after about 45 seconds. It even burst into flames (chemical components under pressure maybe?). So yeh... Please don't get any ideas about using metal BBs on real people. That's stupid. - loves2spooge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3pretty cool, although i think maybe a real pistol or an air rifle would have made for more fun results... UH UH UH OR MAYBE THERMIT XD
- flessa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like something under the microscope from freshman science.
- knaps, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Elvis was famous for shooting his TV when something he didn't like was on. I wonder if this guy knew him.
- BobaFettTDG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Panel. Flat Panel.
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Bond. James Bond.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's correct to call it a monitor too. It monitors things.
- Rikushix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, the bars he makes are like those visualizations for Windows Media Player
- fetusburgers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1looks like an amoeba
