Tech's best workspace: Digg
valleywag.com — When we first listed tech's 10 best workspaces, we downplayed the importance of design and amenities. The crowd disagrees. It favors beer. Digg's beer, to be exact. 1,505 voted in our poll, and 28 percent chose the social news site's workspace and its fridge full of beverages as the best workspace in tech.
- 922 diggs
- digg it
- 1KrazyKorean, on 05/16/2008, -4/+24BEER!!! I wish my company let use drink, probably take some of the edge off.
- nan0bug00, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7Thats why you need to work from home.
See, this article should be flagged as inaccurate. Everyone knows there is no better workspace than the one you can go to in your boxers with a slice of cold pizza and a beer. - zongamin, on 05/16/2008, -7/+2Thanks for not making sense, *****.
- theotheragentm, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2We find booze takes the edge off, but it also takes some of the productivity off too, especially when everyone's passed out on Whisky Wednesdays. Don't even ask about Tequila Tuesdays.
- nan0bug00, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7Thats why you need to work from home.
- mvanhorn, on 05/16/2008, -7/+69http://www.digg.com/jobs - Join us!
- inputname, on 05/16/2008, -19/+11OK, no offense here, I mean I would love to work at digg, but "join us"? You sound like a cult, I'm sure your far cooler than that, and therefore you need an apt recruiting phrase thats less cult like.
- FatLoser, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4"Join us! We promise not to pull our genitals out of our standard issue skin-tight briefs and make you feel uncomfortable during your probationary period. After that, I mean, if you're into it or whatever... well, we can talk about that later. http://www.digg.com/jobs"
I'd sign up with a pitch like that. - Diderotten, on 05/16/2008, -0/+6One of us...one of us...and you get to play Dig Dug!
- Archer007, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Join us! Free Kool-Aid and beer.

- KibibyteBrain, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5If Digg ever goes into embedded systems or operating systems development, I'd be more than happy to. It can get quite annoying seeing all the web guys get all the fun these days.
- califloridan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4I used to be in operating systems and embedded, but Digg was way too awesome to pass up.
- bokep, on 05/16/2008, -0/+13Will you interview me based on my nerf-throwing ability?
- matt.rubin, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I would be down to be the bottom of the barrel IT guy.
- SwitchXFactor, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1If you need an IT professional with some networking background give me a call... ;)
- jana67, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Enjoy an Amber Lager with me...

- tjdegroat, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7I love the Digg office (or the beer, since that's really what we're talking about here), but Zurich is off the chains. Dayum.
- zephyr42, on 05/16/2008, -2/+3Digg does sound like a pretty fantastic place to work...
- volksport, on 05/16/2008, -2/+2mmmmm beer
- iSamurai, on 05/16/2008, -2/+56Nice offices Digg, but in reality, Pixar and Google OWN your digs.
- AngusSteel, on 05/16/2008, -13/+1owned more like pwnd
- LongShlong, on 05/16/2008, -3/+3Using proper grammar > Looking like a fool.
- SpectreFire, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7Yeah, Google Zurich has a ***** slide that goes down to the gourmet cafeteria.
- sdresser, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Pixar is amazing. I can't imagine the amount of time and effort involved in making those "cubicles" look the way they do.
- matt.rubin, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1they have a hidden poker room is what i hear
and steve jobs office is always the cleanest- sdresser, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1That's because he's never there.

- Dylson, on 05/16/2008, -3/+1***** IT!
- lukas88, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Online polls are just an indirect way to find out where your traffic is coming from
- alteregowi, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1I'd just install a keg-erator and be happy with that , but that rocks if that's what diggs break room fridge is like better than finding last weeks bologna sanmich in the back somewhere
- mooseontheloose, on 05/16/2008, -1/+38Too bad it's not good enough to let them fix the commen... oh, wait.
- FatLoser, on 05/16/2008, -2/+9Only problem with working at Digg is that there's no great forbidden website that you can go to and waste time during work... it's like you're working when you visit digg.com :( Oh well, there's always porn and chicken
- UltramegaOK, on 05/16/2008, -7/+1I would love to work at Digg. I'll do anything.
Does Mr.Rose need a personal ass-wiper?- xKorrix, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1lol Desperate are we?
- zongamin, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1***** off, idiot.
- Hawtshot, on 05/16/2008, -2/+0Dugg for Sapporo beer - mmmmm
- xKorrix, on 05/16/2008, -2/+2My job would be more bearable with beer.
- bejayel, on 05/16/2008, -7/+1Jesus *****, what happened to the comments. This is horrible. And crashes Opera....
- hethug, on 05/16/2008, -4/+1Google is a better place to work overall
- JRjJ106, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Redneck Workspace
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQMSASTIgBs - mediaspree, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4digg is banned at my workplace. where does that place me. *****.
- D3koy, on 05/16/2008, -2/+14No offense Digg, but I'd take Google over you guys any day...though I doubt that'll happen, I mean I even baked them a cake shaped like the internet
- califloridan, on 05/16/2008, -1/+8what does a cake shaped like the internet look like?
- cdigioia, on 05/16/2008, -2/+0A series of tubes.
- BlueTunicLink, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2What exactly would that shape be?
- chanop, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1linksys router
- califloridan, on 05/16/2008, -1/+8what does a cake shaped like the internet look like?
- EarlOfLade, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1Any company with a nice selection of herb would be graced by my presence!
- Kazbaeden, on 05/16/2008, -4/+3Speaking of Digg, thanks for this great new comment system that crashes Opera 9.23. Anyone else getting this?
For making me open IE7, I can never forgive you.- tandy400, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Hopefully you were only using IE7 to download Firefox...
- Aleman360, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2The beer is nice, but I was at Microsoft's campus recently and they had a near convenience store-sized drink cooler full of free stuff on each floor (at least in one of the Millenium buildings where the Xbox team is located).
- CaptainLando, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I was there in February at the new Research and Development building. On each floor there were two kitchen/coffee room/game rooms each with this convenience store-sized cooler stocked with free drinks.
I was impressed, but Digg looks much more fun still.
- CaptainLando, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I was there in February at the new Research and Development building. On each floor there were two kitchen/coffee room/game rooms each with this convenience store-sized cooler stocked with free drinks.
- KloroFormd, on 05/16/2008, -2/+4Dugg for Fat Tire.
Almost buried for lack of Shiner Bock. :(- schmiggyjk, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Fat Tire is greatness in a bottle.
- aguynamedben, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I will be amending that situation very soon =)
- Adgeman, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3You guys should check out the EA Canada studio:
http://mcminteriors.com/high-tech.cfm/webid=21
http://mcminteriors.com/high-tech.cfm/webid=80- fkuall, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I took a tour of the entire place one time, it was reeeally frickin sweet, all sort of angled walkways between 2 floors that weren't quite on the same elevation. a huge gym where the employees could work out, basketball, volleyball courts, soccer fields. and right next to it is the EA mo-cap studio, which is the largest in the world apparently, but we weren't allowed to see it.
- dsingletary911, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2It's a really bad idea to drink and drive, and since I work at a fire dept., beer is way out of the question, but for a place like Digg, it is totally awesome!
- SenorGeltabz, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4Its BEER !!!! HOO-RAY Beer
- setrusko, on 05/16/2008, -3/+1We have Beer-Thirty (5:30PM) at work every Friday. It's a good time.
- Tyr7BE, on 05/16/2008, -2/+6Could this be why they took so long to fix the comment system?
- rheaume, on 05/16/2008, -3/+1Sign me up for Google. For digg...how about a free line of cocaine every hour to ensure the next upgrade to the comment system doesn't take a year to roll out?
- 9Digits, on 05/16/2008, -5/+2Yeah, that's a good way to get ***** done. Nothing like throwing caution to the wind and drunkenly managing servers... it's obvious that the folks voting for Digg's workspace haven't actually worked in IT, but feel like if they read this site they're somehow getting an inside look into it. I suppose that's true, if you're looking to be a short-timer.
BTW, way to ***** up the comments section. - stevenk87, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Dugg for the case of Fat Tire.
- bstew22, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Buried for the case of Fat Tire
- binarysemaphore, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Boy..this is dream come true.. Beer at work ! I can work for 12 hours if they offered it at my work place

- AsbellFTW, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0is that Orange juice in the bottom shelf?
If it is nice combo, Beer and Orange Juice - GiulianoB, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1We have more a lot more beer than that in my workplace. Our secretary actually sent out an email saying we needed to free up space in the fridge and whoever wanted to could take beers home.
- Anim8ir, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1we have all the same stuff here at my office and more
http://www.d-x-d.com - Barakolypse, on 05/16/2008, -3/+0Digg is a horrid liberal cess pool; not anything to be praising.
- iamfrontosa, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I don't see the pbr,
- rasp, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Beer itself is nice - but really, it's having beer on the roof with awesome coworkers is the best
- pault107, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I worked at a place in Amsterdam that stocked up beer and wine in the fridge. Friday afternoons were the best, around 3pm the party would start, music booming, alcohol being drank and on occasion a joint would be passed. In full view of the 'managers'. Well, it was an advertising agency, and it was in Amsterdam. Good times.
- Dietrich, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2My office doesn't even give us plastic utensils in the break room. :(
- djchester, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Hmm.. I can't even imagine how work would be with alcohol. In Sweden we have "After Work" and that I would not like to have in my office I can tell you!
- bstew22, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1There are days when a cold beer just would make my day at work. No, I don't have to get all sloppy drunk... just one nice pint to kick back and relax.... (while working of course)
- fbliss, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Anchor Steam FTW
- Ashis007, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0Digg, Inc., lemme know if you guys plan on opening up an office in India. I sure would like to join the workplace revolution.
