The Most Hated Comment on Digg
chandlerkent.com — This is what happens when you 'spam' a popular digg story.
- 4262 diggs
- digg it
- Dadgumit, on 11/07/2007, -79/+1677I'm Digging this because that site is pretty sweet. Never heard of it before Thanks for that!
-ninja
www.askaninja.com- babemgnt101, on 10/26/2007, -52/+441So... yeah this is my site. I am the "idiot" who "spammed" the digg comments and got flamed for it. Basically, this is the story of the day that this happened. I wish I could have posted the site myself but Disparity got to it first. Read it for a continuation of the story. Oh and a shotout to the 1200 (and counting) or so people that buried my comment. Thanks!
- OBKenobi, on 10/26/2007, -9/+98Is this really the most Dugg-down comment?
I would like to see the Top 10 most hated comments. - fishnchips, on 10/12/2007, -9/+94http://insidesocialnews.blogspot.com/2006/11/most-buried-comments-in-digg-history.html
- Masna, on 10/26/2007, -68/+212Man, digg users are definitely way too harsh on these comments. Not to mention, I know from experience that most users don't even read comments, but simply copy what others have done; if the comment is dug down -1000, you're going to press that red thumbs down picture, don't deny it.
Now digg me down, because you can't face the truth... - SentOne, on 10/12/2007, -8/+177-1473
http://digg.com/hardware/James_Kim_s_Body_Found#c4143973 - skylights, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35Wow, the James Kim comment definitely has this one beat. For now, anyway.
- pipdip, on 10/26/2007, -47/+334Let's try and beat the record.. everyone digg this down
But check out my site... http://www.wrtrouters.com - serra, on 10/12/2007, -6/+49Thanks for pointing out the comment on the James Kim story, I didn't get to digg that one down while I was there, so I got to do it now. :P
- zephc, on 10/12/2007, -25/+45in light of the james kim comment, buried as inaccurate. Also, blogspam.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31The hatred towards that comment seems a bit lame considering the fact that we've actually had REAL spam on digg before (i.e., commercial spam).
- pipdip, on 10/12/2007, -45/+44Actually I just talked briefly to Mr. Kent, Chandler. Seems like a normal digger. Can't blame that guy for trying to advertise his blog.... or can you?
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25I didn't digg you down, but I would have. I'm not (that much of) a jackass, but if you want people to check out you're website on digg, put it in you're profile. That's why the option is there.
The colors of you're website do hurt my eyes, defiantly need to fix that, but I know how it is. I suck with color schemes as well.
Good to hear that not everyone on digg is a douche. Kinda expected the people that called to not really come up with anything though... - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -62/+11Eh, what the hell. I'll spam my ***** blog too.
http://www.gamespot.com/pages/profile/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-24832831&user=Einhanderkiller - Zuggy, on 10/12/2007, -56/+19I'd bet money that at least half of the people that dugg it down, did so because so many others did and they are easily entertained. If something is already dugg down -4, I personally will digg down something just because I like the animation of it opening and closing.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -8/+110Chandler Kent, sorry about that, diggers can be assholes. Lack of anything better to do and years of having to tolerate internet spam have embittered us. You seem like a good sport, better than most of the blokes on here, so take some consolation in that.
- mikesbaker, on 10/12/2007, -19/+7Dugg for beingfreaking hilarious - seriously are you color blind?
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7As someone on the top 10 most hated digg comments, I have to say... spammers SHOULD get dugg down. Unlike my glorious and insightful comment on "Very Funny Picture."
- soapycub, on 10/12/2007, -19/+4I blocked this guy not more than a few hours ago.
- television, on 10/12/2007, -18/+4here, have some irony..
-television
http://www.duggmirror.com - V00D00M0NKY, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3I'm digging this cuz i just saw this guy comment on another post telling someone else not to complain cuz he got dugg down so damn much...
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -5/+45The multiple levels of irony are messing with my brain.
- television, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3I hate to spoil the hate, but it seems we hate this guy more
http://digg.com/hardware/James_Kim_s_Body_Found#c4143973 - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -28/+12You bunch of digg faggots, get a life.
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+49You know. The guy is being really cool and good humored about it. I honestly don't think he was spamming on purpose. So I say give him a break.
Oh and to babemagnet, props on becoming the most talked about Digg user on Digg in less than 6 hours. - Avili, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4yea but now he's enjoying the digg limelight (a little too much). I disagree with the crankcalling, but hey I guess it's a lesson learnt in not putting your personal info online (I thought most ppl had learnt this already). If he keeps updating the blog with every little bit of update - he'll be just as bad, if not worse, then that stolen sidekick guy.
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20i wouldn't stress babemagnet... Digg used to be a tech site, but these days a lot of articles attract the 14 year old kids...
They are a fickle wave of judgement... whichever direction the wave starts in, everyone else joins in... if you're in the road when the wave sweeps passed, prepare to be lynched.
Its funny because it's online, but make no mistake, a different era, these guys *would* have you strung up to a burning tree...
be afraid... be very afraid... - superpotential, on 10/12/2007, -18/+121babemgnt101: I'll proudly state that I didn't bury you.
I don't mind people adding signatures to their Digg comments. Why?
1. the internet runs on advertising. someone's sig may be the next hit site. it's just a line of text, not a floating ad. Accept it, advertising runs Digg. For all you know, www.digg.com might have been Kevin Rose's Slashdot signature.
2. I like seeing what other people have to share
3. Nobody reads Digg profiles. Really.
4. Slashdot and others have people putting sigs on their messages and it doesn't screw anything up.
5. It's not Spam - it's a legitimate blog. Spam would be www.penisenlargement.com or some crap like that.
That said, please continue to use signatures because it goes along with the freedom to express. For all of you who don't want to see these websites, DONT CLICK ON THE LINKS! And for all you wimps that complain so much that it's taking space, the name of the game is GreaseMonkey. - dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -20/+6http://digg.com/tech_news/DuggMirror_We_all_use_it_every_day_Time_to_show_it_some_love_by_digging is the submission url where he got dugg down.
His phone # is still in the comments..
"apparently this kid was dumb enough to post his cell number..
847.271.9187
who wants to give him a call?"
and i just had to re-quote diseage from a comment he made in this submission.. hilarious
"I'm not going to digg this because I think that a digg story, linking to a blog, about a comment, on a digg story, about a mirror, of digg, that got mirrored..
okay, let's just say I'm pretty sure there's a hole in the space-time continuum ripping open right now." - eonblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Define Iorny: Burrying somone because they put blog spam in their post and their blog being on digg within the week.
- HaxityHaxHaxed, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Total Est. Time: 1 hour, 4 minutes Total Est. Distance: 46.04 miles
Lalala - MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8superpotential:
So Digg should add an entry in the profile were you can add your signature and it gets displayed automatically in every comment, like on many message board systems, instead of having to write it manually everytime.
And then add an option for the rest of us to turn its display off.
Edit:
PS. STFU, you're an ass for not burying him - synystar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I intended to point out Deeznuts comment when I RTA but I wasn't the only one who thought that ... I was a little upset that story did not hit number one. Regardless of the drama that ensued when it hit Digg... and I don't give a ***** about anyones opinion on the matter, I was still hoping that an article that did not involve Digg would make it to number one for the year. That story, comparatively, was second. ???
- RealJimShady, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I think this whole fiasco is a testament to the stupid heard mentality of Digg. Watch the rats swarm and digg/bury in conformance. I'm going to digg this story, in support of babemgnt101. I'd like to say I'm as weirded out by this as he is, but I think I've come to expect this since I started actually reading digg comments.
- Markpdotcom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32@realjimshady
I have to agree with you. This whole mentality of diggs comment system is nuts!
To all the new people to Digg the rules of the playground are: "You must love macs, the Wii r00x, the ps3 sUUx and Kevin Rose ownzz j00!" Also "In Soviet Russia, the reverse is true", "I welcome our XXXX overlords" and "will it blend" etc...
I think it shows the average age of a "Digger", they're probably in their early teens. Maybe we need a Digg for adults? :)
Let the digging down commence! ;) - mrGroggy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0For those of you who've been to the /b/ board on 4chan, this is old news. Its always fun to troll someone, even though this turned out to backfire on the trollers (thats a first).
- silenceHR, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4@Markpdotcom
While you bring stereotypes from digg to show how immature diggers are, you still use one in the end of your post. Isn't that ironic? I have seen more "let digging down" type of posts then "Soviet Russia" ones. It's amusing that your try to make fun of others and then fall into same category.
;) - doshindude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2lawl
- Markpdotcom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow thanks for all the diggs up to my comment above! I didn't expect that! Maybe there is hope for Digg's comment system after all! :)
- sufferwell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1@ fishnchips
I actually agree with some of the comments
DskZ - http://myweb.absa.co.za/errolla/
I beat you all with my crappy url - AkshayGenius, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18Lets make another record, digg me down, everyone digg me down now!!
- Monolith2, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5LOL
I think our friend Chandler needs all the traffic and ad revenue he can get. Why? The boy needs some braces - badly!

here is the comment he made - Kxpuc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2i get dugg'd down all the time for the latest trend of not bashing Sony just b/c i like the PS3 and the games i play on it. it's "illegal" to like a console that has games you can play on it or something. The Wii60 people get out of hand most the time. When in reality the console doesn't matter since anyone would get any console based off the number/quality of the games you want to play that can only (not necessarly better) console. which is the reason behind Exclusives. For the PS3 basher's if there's this killer game(s) out that's not on Wii or 360 comes out that you want to play more then anything in the world what do you do wait around till Microsoft of Nintendo pay/convince the developer to put it on the system you have?
- takamalak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@babemagnet101
Kuler is your friend. Pick a new color scheme: http://kuler.adobe.com - anewcomputer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0
http://anewcomputer.chipin.com/a-new-computer - Smoove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"...a lot of articles attract the 14 year old kids..."
That's right--just ignore them! Fortunately, you can usually spot them pretty easily. Look for juvenile login names like "Babemagnet." - renegadeafk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I win
- thoughtfulclown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i think part of the problem is that babemagnet didn't know what duggmirror was....
- TomRemixed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Flame wars on Digg are so freakin' hilarious. If you ever want to feel smarter then just read the comments in those Richard Dawkins stories. The people on Digg are just douche bags. One of my New Years Resolutions was to not comment on most of the stories I see because you ultimately look like and idiot. (wait why am I posting now?)
- Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1So he spammed his site yesterday (or so) and thought: wow, it works, let's do it again but better this time...
edit: I forget:
Hey, check this out: "amazing" photos made in Mexico: http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2006/12/31/ - Kniggit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Never underestimate the Streisand Effect: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect
- ApplCmptrDood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ bitcloud I'm 14 and come here purely for the tech content. I didn't bury the guys comment like other people did just because it was being dugg down. Not all of us are like that (although it might seem like it :P)
- Derrelicte, on 11/07/2007, -3/+153Ironically enough, this story is digging the site that was originally being spammed.
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I know - I saw that and immediately closed the tab... then thought "oh no! too late!"
- spadin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20If he's not color blind, I think I am after I looked at that site.
- yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -27/+27digg me down please.
Let me get the title of the most dugg down comment.
OK Here is some spam. Opera is my favorite browser. Download Opera at:
http://www.ie7.com
Now digg me down.
Or should I say digg me up to be dugg down? Digg me up. Let me get the title of the most dugg up comment ever. You know, it's much easier to digg up a massively dugg up comment than to digg down a massively dugg down comment. The former requires only one click. But the latter requires two clicks and it's not funny to watch that crappy javascript animation effect. - shokk, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Wow, he really is colorblind.
http://www.shokk.com - anewcomputer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://anewcomputer.chipin.com/a-new-computer
- drpeppper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I really dont see a problem with someone 'signing out' with their site when they enter comments. If its a site like his, personal, without ads. I guess its fine. Now if its an ad ridden site, then yea. Go easy on the guy.
- chriszma666, on 11/07/2007, -30/+119The funny thing is your site still sucks and you still must be color blind.
- Stuntaneous, on 10/12/2007, -21/+26i actually like the colours, its a bright change to the usual ***** ya see.. and still readable =P
- zyxwiley, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4even funnier is his phone number, aim, etc are still listed...
- prh99, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I can't say it will ever be a favorite, but I've seen far worse color schemes...just look on myspace if you dare.
The color choice doesn't give me a head ache and black on yellow is pretty easy to read so props for that. - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I like the colour scheme... It's not the best website design, but if anyone think's we're not going to look back on the "web 2.0" generation and say "holy ***** pastel - what were we thinking?" you're kidding yourself...
- masonreloaded, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5I like the colors on his site.
For another site with different colors, why not visit:
http://www.jonmason.net - masonreloaded, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8bury
- bubba9999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Does anyone know where you can get a hotdog stand stylesheet?
- Somniis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What is so bad about it? It pales in comparision to god-awful MySpace sites.
- 7of7, on 10/26/2007, -4/+85The fact that anyone in the world takes Digg seriously is seriously disturbing.
- morganm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Exactly. And read just a sampling of the useless comments around here. His at least was relatively innocuous, easy to ignore, not a litany of spelling, grammar, logic, and reality errors with maximum punctuation. This place...
- jtstogner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32I believe he had a right to take it seriously when his phone number was posted.
- babemgnt101, on 10/12/2007, -39/+23Haha, yeah I dugg it! Why not, it links to my site! Thanks disparity. It is pretty friggin' ironic ain't it?
- KAMiKAZOW, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Why are you complaining that much in you blog post? You started that hatred against you by spamming and now you demand apologies?
Wow, you really have nerves. - sanguinemoon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14He didn't spam. It's not a commerical blog with ads. It wasn't the most ingenius comment in the world, but didn't deserve to be dugg down more than real advertising messages do.
- gamebittk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea - and he didn't even submit this story to Digg either - Disparity did - so quit accusing him of trying to super-advertise his blog via Digg.
- KAMiKAZOW, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Why are you complaining that much in you blog post? You started that hatred against you by spamming and now you demand apologies?
- fishnchips, on 10/12/2007, -8/+22@babemgnt101
Your site is fine - I like it! It sucks you were getting prank calls/IMs. What I call my 'Internet life' (forums, digg) rarely overlaps with my 'real life'. Anyway, I hope it's eased off now and this story gets to the front page instead!- babemgnt101, on 10/12/2007, -15/+22Hey thanks man. Like I said in the article, not all people are bad!
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, really, I don't think the layout is anywhere near horrific. I would tone down the yellows quite a bit (and don't have a hover effect on your title) but it's not that bad.
- Diseage, on 10/12/2007, -4/+114I'm not going to digg this because I think that a digg story, linking to a blog, about a comment, on a digg story, about a mirror, of digg, that got mirrored..
okay, let's just say I'm pretty sure there's a hole in the space-time continuum ripping open right now.- sedo1800, on 10/12/2007, -18/+13LOL thats ***** awsome lol
- mp3dog, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16Yeah alot (not all) of the people in the digg communtiy can be arrogant assholes (see bullies). God forbid you sign a post with your personal website address in the signature!!! Sheesh, nobody's forcing you to click on the link!
Anyway, about the website, my advice would be to tone down that bright red and yellow. They're really loud... particularly when used together like that. If you really want the yellow in there, make it a more pale shade of yellow. And I think the red area would look better in a dark blue or charcoal grey.- jackhole, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22I look forward to the day when all comments on digg are tagged with blog and email addresses, currently playing song, poster's mood, location, real name, and favorite color. I can't bear having to click the link to the profile to find out that frivolous *****. I call upon all diggers, please increase the noise-to-signal ratio of the comment section by ending all your posts with a closing and a signature.
Best regards,
jackhole - Bobski, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1Huh? You want to increase the *NOISE* to signal ratio?!?!?!!
You actually want more noise than signal???
Don't tell me.... Let me guess.... YOU'RE A LIBERAL!!!
Ca-Ching!!! - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think Bobski is trying to compete for a new Most Hated comment award.
- jackhole, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22I look forward to the day when all comments on digg are tagged with blog and email addresses, currently playing song, poster's mood, location, real name, and favorite color. - fjc8, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Perhaps you should have put their phone numbers on your blog.
- diizy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4hahaha! what a good way for revenge.
regardless, i like the way you handled it! - babemgnt101, on 10/12/2007, -5/+42Yeah, that would not be cool to give out people's phone numbers. I'm not going to do that.
- CleverRetard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@babemgnt101
Four more people to go... - CleverRetard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Looks like all thirty people who called dugg you up already.
Go for the sucker punch?
- diizy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4hahaha! what a good way for revenge.
- skylights, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Here's where it happened, in case somehow you missed it (and you shouldn't have, it's the #1 story):
http://digg.com/tech_news/DuggMirror_We_all_use_it_every_day_Time_to_show_it_some_love_by_digging- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Now watch as everyone goes to that link and continues to digg him down, if they haven't already.
- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3I'm digging it up.
- Hemingrubbish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@bennyboy
why?
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -12/+23He got dugg down because it was a lame overenthusiastic comment with a website plug. Simple as that.
- jonbon, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5exactly. it wasn't just dugg down because of the link at the bottom, the whole sentence was so generic and lame that even cha-cha could have came up with that.
- babemgnt101, on 10/12/2007, -20/+4@jonbon
I may be the only one who got your reference. Props for that. - Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4sniff whats wrong with chacha :'(
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Also, he didn't seem to know what DuggMirror was. Maybe next time I should RTFA.
- Avili, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2lame joke
- Jack9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Please explain why nobody else gets such a treatment in other threads?
The occassional -10 or so is normal, but -300? You are the typical diggerloon.
- SystmBetatester, on 10/12/2007, -26/+1lmfao, pretty good digg... should we try and beat the old record?
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8by starting with you? sure
- 47knight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Sometimes the members here at digg can be total dicks...
- sterntastic223, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37you mean diccks? get it, it's like digg, but for dick...***** don't bury me...
- lonnieh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Asshatery is almost everywhere on the internet and pretty much anywhere you can be anonymous. I guess the douche bag comes out online because they can't stand up for themselves in real life.
- jejones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Very true, though I take some comfort from not having a way to tell what fraction of people on Digg are that way... some seem to be functioning at about the level of the dregs remaining on the G4 forums... and that's pretty damned sad.
- Pelapp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Digg's worse than almost any other forum I've been to. I totally agree with the quote from the blog this story links to...
- subxero37, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21I've gotten dugg down quite a bit for perfectly valid comments. I don't worry so much about it, it's digg -- it's not like digg will decide my future based on the score I get on a comment. What's weird, though, is when I post crappy comments that require no thought and aren't even very sensible, I get dugg up. Or when I post something, trying to be funny, and eeeeverybody takes it seriously and diggs me down.
But oh well, I don't care. It's not my future, or my life, it's a digg post.- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I care... I go back and look at all my previous comments ratings.
- sanguinemoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ subxero37
Yeah. In the Linux/Unix section people tend to get dugg down simply for disagreeing with the fanboys of a certain Linux distro, making perfectly valid, non trolling comments. Sometimes I go looking for the dugg down comments because often they make more sense then the popular ones
- Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43...and now his site hits front page. Digg, you are the most retarded crowd EVER.
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Thanks a bunch!
- Aharoni, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I would have dugg down the comment if I had seen it, as in any other website it would seem as if he is trying to simply raise his post count - total unrelated spam.
However, This guys writes better blog posts than comments. I found the post itself rather amusing/disturbing.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah.... I used to add my site into the comments too, just like you would on other forums as your signature, but I quickly learned that is not how we do things here in the "wild wild digg west"!
- blackmariah, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2Something tells me all 1100+ that dugg this guy down use Linux.
- realize, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Im kind of disappointed that people who called you just sat there silent and then hung up. How boring is that. They could have at least tried to make it interesting. Heck even saying I really liked your comment so I thought I would call you. See my website at www.digg.com would have at least been a tad bit amusing.
- mbhp, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Long live Chandler!
http://www.TwitTV.com - iPadraic, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1You'll actually find a more hated (and rightly so) comment here.
http://digg.com/hardware/James_Kim_s_Body_Found- serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Did you even read the other comments above this? Aaaah, a true digger! :P
- davetcg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's funny that a story about a frozen, dead body is submitted under "hardware".
- DOUBLEz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Funny stuff and I gotta say you got a hell of a story now, and tons of people going to your site, you should get the ads there fast.
- DeMarko, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2reminds me, not everyone should have a website
that and...coders at least keep it simple, that site is all over the place...and it hurts my eyes- PaulLev, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2don a pair of sunglasses

=P - steve693, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13Seriously. . .your color scheme is *****.
Rainbow *****. - Ouze, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35I can totally see where this guy is coming from, prompting me to now make my first, and probably last, post on Digg. I just started reading Digg pretty recently, and it seemed like it was better then Fark's comments area, since for me anyway, I always felt like the article is only half the story, and the comments can often be way more interesting, a balanced pie chart of infotainment.
It's kinda sad that after only maybe 2 months, tops, on Digg I almost never read the comments anymore since they are seemingly always dominated by (insert an OS here) fanbois, internet tough guys, and just flat out raving assholes. Just a few entries below was an article about outrageous bank fees, and while I agree that bank fees are out of control, anybody that actually posted a comment indicating in any way that the person generating the overdraft might need to exert a little financial control was mercilessly and swiftly dugg down. "The wisdom of crowds" is pretty good at generating funny/weird/interesting stories for the first part of the infotainment pie, but the comments section generally reveals what common sense already tells you: crowds don't have any ***** wisdom, but make good mindless herds/lynch mobs.- babemgnt101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree. It's a sad truth of the internet, or maybe even people in general.
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, I think it shows how poorly moderated the comments are. I understand that they want to have a democratic system, but there's got to be more control over it. I think it's time Digg stopped focusing on the front page algorithm and started some serious work on the comments. Slashdot has one of the best democratic moderation systems for comments.
In fact, one big step forward would be to make the comments like the front page. Everything submitted is hidden until it's dugg up to be visible. Let's noise, more signal.
- ravzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8the internet is full of stupid people!!
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Maybe it's just one exceptionally stupid person using multiple aliases?
- cowbellthunder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5HAHA. Channy! You're famous now. Who'd a thunk?
- babemgnt101, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5hey steve, i would have thunk ;)
- enclave2, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5YAY every one hates you!
- jchrome, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2That's just a nerdy little kid. I almost feel bad for the lil' feller. Sadly I did have to gouge out my eyes (with a spork that I happened to have handy here) after looking at that color scheme though. Ouch. Make the bad color scheme stop.
- monkeycatDx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Watch This!!!
- Hensworth, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5This story is blatant spam, burying
- wazaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why is it spam? Personally.. I consider it a page which I enjoyed reading (that is, after messing around with Platypus)... When it comes down to the crunch; I couldn't care whether it's a shameless plug, poor layout or whatever objections one might have against it, if I enjoy reading it then it's worth digging.
But by all means you're entitled to your opinion - after all, isn't that's a part of what Digg is about?

- mikesbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dugg for being hilarious - your comments are going down though.
- swordphish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Welcome to Digg, the home of the undue and the overdone.
However it is common etiquitte, on Digg, and on forums, to not 'spam' messages with your personal URL.
On Digg, this is a big no-no, as there is a 'Profile' for each user where they can provide this information.
Most forums have something like this as well, a profile, or even a 'Signature'. - KimmoA, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Cool article!11
http://www.kimmoa.se/- byt123, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1You ***** dum ***** ***** breath!!
- imerlin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I've also been monitoring how comments are moderated here and to be honest, it sucks (just for this comment I'll be buried).
People are burying comments for various reasons. Reasons I can agree with are spam or trolling. But burying comments because you disagree or simply because you are annoyed is just *****.
Since you are allowed to post links in comments, there is nothing wrong with a little signature. But this is why I like Digg more than Slashdot. I can view the article/page in question without reading all the crap people write about it.
Hmmm, I might as well selfishly advertise my site as well... Don't visit www.scrolls.org/andri
Enjoy- swordphish, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Please do not visit http://www.cafepress.com/DoubleTheData :---P
- byt123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1to save people from clicking out of curiousity, the above site (cafepress) links to a page selling jackets (crappy ones at that).
Have a good day!

- Squeeself, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Now we all know how insane everyone here on digg is (including me). A great case study in the complete randomness of internet psychology. Isn't the net a wonderful place?
- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I just have one thing to say......I really hope you have free incoming calls on your cell phone lol
- Sp4nk, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3"This page will not view correctly because your browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer) does not support web standards. Go here for a real browser."
Blow me.- swordphish, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Does not support web standards? You mean like denying access to a page when it doesn't really even ***** matter if the page will not view correctly? Ghey.
- KimmoA, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11While that is certainly lame, you're even lamer for using MSIE.
- babemgnt101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yeah, it doesn't work in IE. Not at all. Just a suggestion though. IE is not my friend. Or any web developers friend for that matter.
- Sp4nk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Yeah, but it's still owning 85-90% of the browser market, so not supporting it is pretty ***** stupid.
- RulerOf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm using IE7, and I saw the "Will not work in IE" crap, but was able to view the page anyway. The hilarious part is that the link that says "Go here" is covered up by the little Merry Christmas banner on the top of his page, and that makes me rofl. The story in and of itself though... funny as hell :D
I like IE7, and I've always thought firefox has sucked because it has a perceptible load time whereas IE doesn't. That breaks the deal for me. And I dislike Opera. Call me a fanboi, but hey, at least I know I am.
- Pedlya, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Why dont you go cry about it kent?
www.whinypussy.com/pedlyasblog - babemgnt101, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8For all you that STILL thank that i was spamming. Where are the ads on my site? What is the point of trying to get tons of people to come to my site if I'm not even making money? Either I'm retarded (this is true) or I was not spamming (also true). But that's neither here nor there, thanks for everybody for the ummm "constructive criticism" about my site. I will take them into consideration.
- swordphish, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Spam doesn't have to be marketing. Spam is something that doesn't belong somewhere. For instance, spam does not belong in the comments when there's a perfectly good Profile to get your spam on. For example...this is spam: http://digg.com/users/swordphish
- Siddhidecha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I would not take the number of digg seriously anyway. Though I have not been here for long, I saw some comments received high number of diggs without any good reason (in my opinion). In addition, I noticed that the earlier you comment on the topic, the higher chance for someone to read your comment and give either +1 or -1. Conversely, late comments are hardly received any score at all (unless it really stands out).
- trishsilb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hey Channy...Got a tip for ya.....it seems noone is digging the color scheme...thought I would make a suggestion........if you go with cool colors stay with cool colors...or all warms......;-)
- babemgnt101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Thanks for the tip. Maybe you could contact me with your suggestions? I'm really not too good at it.
- saichele, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1man, that hurt my eyes. but I can deal with the spam. just spare me the pro-sean hannity comments and we're good.
- lillepalle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4...And the babemagnet was also an attention whore we found out!
Look at him frolicking in all the attention :D haha - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@babemgnt101 Just to explain a little why people consider posting a link to your own site "spam" on digg and just a harmless signature on other sites. Digg is a large enough site that when it " links to another site " even in a user generated comment, and even if that comment is dugg down and the link never clicked by anyone, that site then gets a higher page rank in google as google takes links from other popular sites into account when generating it's page ranks. Because of this, some users started posting replies without any meaningful comment containing a link to their site solely to get a higher page rank. So I generally digg down comments with a signature like http://google.com but not ones that just say google.com because, since digg does not parse it and make it a link, it doesn't artificially increase their page rank.
I don't condone any of the harassment done by any diggers, I just wanted to explain why Digg is the only site that considers links to ones site spam.- superpotential, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Why do you give a crap about somebody else's page rank?
If you want to compete, create your own website and post it in your sig so it gets highly ranked too. Don't digg them down for it. Plus, digging down only sets display:none; in JavaScript, it has no effect on search engines. - kevinarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I appreciate the explanation. I wasn't aware of this and will be conscious of it in the future as well.
- HonoredMule, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@superpotential: Are you suggesting that it would be okay if digg's comment system became an unfettered SEO playground? Valid comments would cease to exist, and the most popular results in Google searches would be the ones that spend the most time comment spamming in digg (at least until digg fixed [as in broke] comment linking).
- superpotential, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Why do you give a crap about somebody else's page rank?
- mathcreative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well this is a good way to teach the online community not to make those kind of misakes. Digg is an awesome site and the content up is really cool, but it's we the users that make it cool, we present digg and all it's coolness. So don't be hating
- chemicalmachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So...how old is the average digg user?
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Mentally? 5
Physically? Who knows.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Mentally? 5
- jprez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Good work on the redesign
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Way to go Digg idiots. You bury the guy and now you give him all the promotion he could ever dream of. If there is one shining example of how unbelievably stupid the Digg herd is, it's this.
- DonWilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Definitely agree with you, just a matter of seconds before the sheep down-vote your comment because they don't want to realize that 95% of digg viewers are idiots.
