http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/savejohn/- thebaron2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2It might help if that actually linked to something useful, instead of a dead yahoo forum.
Maybe phone numbers to call, addresses to email, pre-written templates... all of the above? As it is, the biggest results this thing will net will be a bunch of people jabbering on about how sweet the show was and how "someone should do something!" about it. - sifeliz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't know Showtime instead?
- thebaron2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2It might help if that actually linked to something useful, instead of a dead yahoo forum.
- reeder, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4I, for one, choose to believe.
- chongi, on 10/10/2007, -6/+6Get back in the game HBO.
- wgoff, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5I believe this show is for some people and not for others. I am one of the people that is for it. I think David Milch is a genius first off. Secondly, you have to be a thinker to enjoy JFC. Some people believe in miracles, some don't. I'm one that does so maybe thats why i fit into the genre of those that fell head over heels for JFC. Or maybe its because I'm an ex surfer/skater & dug it in that manner...you decide. But I for one think this series should definitely be continued.
- carasmatic, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4I have gone through shock, denial and now I am officially in the anger phase!
What the hell!
I am cancelling my HBO subscription! Lets march on the corp office! Lets hold that cook out in the Parking Lot!
Anyway--here is what I would have written if I was a writer for the show! (very presumptuous of me I know)
The premise of the show would be something similar to the Peter Sellers movie Being There (book written by Jerzy Kosinski which one of my favorite books/movies). The main character in “Being There” Chauncey Gardner (Peter Sellers) is sheltered all his life, and because of that he hasn’t been jaded by all the neg stimuli that the world throws at you. So he believes that there is nothing he can’t do. Or is not aware of the things that are not do-able. The long and the short of it is that he ends up being president—and at the end –he ends up walking on water, just because he doesn’t realize that its impossible.
So to apply this line of thinking to JFC-(the short version)-all of the “miracles” were really caused by each individuals own strengths. Mitch’s levitation could be caused by his own belief that he is enlightened and the reason that he couldn’t levitate before is because he didn’t believe in himself, (remember he was reading that book, “Levitation for the Enlightened.” Bill believed that Zippy could heal because he (meaning zippy) came back to life, Butchie not getting dope-sick could be because he realized that anything is possible ect. It could be like a chain reaction. And John was just the catalyst.
I have obviously invested too much time and thought into this show!
Setting everything on the Surf-Skate community just made it all that much better!
It had such potential—I looked forward to it every week! I have watched each episode multiple times and found newness in each one each time I rewatched. ( I do have a life though--and this show made it more interesting)I think this could have been an important message.
But the only message HBO seems to want to send is to show us how rich spoiled people live, or how much sex you can have and pay good money for. For the most part, I see alot of depravity being forced down my throat. And I know I have the option not to watch--and I don't. But I have to think what are HBOs intentions? What is HBO's agenda? It doesn't take the Oracle of Delphi to see that its a response to the wants of a lot of people (sex sells its true), plus the almighty dollar.
Wouldn't it be nice if a show was edgy, real life like (no beautiful people buying Prada and drinking cosmos) But some down and dirty reality that comes off in the end like normal everyday life can be special too if you have the perspective that makes it that way. Value some stuff that you actually have access to.
I guess maybe it would have continued if the people were criminals who kill in cold blood (ok that was sour grapes!)
Just my 2 cents -(more like a dollar I know!)-I feel compelled to write so I can get over this and move on!
Farewell JFC --I loved it while it lasted!
cc- vato1man, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Thank God. I thought I was the only who got the Being There connection.
- gwinerreniwg, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Unfortunately I don't think this show works for the majority of folks. It unfolds slowly, and the casual viewer can't really follow the deep sub-currents that drive the show. Only rabid fans will keep it alive at this point. It's a snoozer for everyone else.
"Flight of the Conchords" on the other hand...- jcm267, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I hate the show, but honestly your explanation is kinda a reason to want it to stay. We have 200 some odd channels, we should be able to have some shows that only some of us care about. I've certainly had mine that no one cared about. Though nowadays I'm all into mainstream shows like 24, Lost, and the Office. In the 1990s I was sooo into shows like Duckman, the Critic, and Sliders.
- carasmatic, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4I have gone through shock, denial and now I am officially in the anger phase!
- pacodoggie, on 10/10/2007, -6/+5Well...it is worth a try. I personally love the intelligence and the reality of all of these imperfect characters on JFC. The themes are so good in this show that they keep me up at night. There is no other show on TV that does that for me.
- Strax202, on 10/10/2007, -7/+5Awesome show, did NOT deserve to be cancelled. It is the most brilliant thing on television.
- jonl, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7I got my eye on you, HBO.
- spamthecan, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7Best show since Dexter. Which is the best show since SFU. Sort it out, HBO, renewing it is a no-brainer.
PS Best actor nominations for Brian Van Holt (I never thought I'd ever type THAT!), and Ed O'Neill - all the way. Jesus Christ Jesus Christ Jesus CHRIST!- BizzaroRob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Bill is my favorite character I think. This could come to fisticuffs! Love Dexter and Six Feet Under as well. BTW Alan Ball (SFU) is developing a new series for HBO now too, something with Vampires. No idea if it'll be any good, but worth a look probably.
- fieldy32, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I bet my life savings that the Vampire show is cancelled too, if its any good that is.

- Lunchtray, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5Mother of God! Bring JFC back!
- kimdy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5That happy, fuzzy, slightly confused, feeling of joy I got each and every week, watching it all come together, is going to be missing from my life now...
How can HBO see message boards (at HBO) filled with posts from admitted atheists stating that something was happening, and they felt better than they had in a long time, just go by the wayside?
Just like the story itself, this could have been a slow growing movement... Could have done some good...
*sigh*
Canceled my HBO this morning. - uberblonde, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Look, I'd pay EVEN MORE MONEY to HBO to see this show keep going!
- Cinxia, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Awesome show, what an utterly disappointing decision by HBO to cancel it, I bet CSI:Rhode Island is just around the corner huh HBO?
jesus christ jesus christ JESUS CHRIST - salamandersurf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5I guess I can cancel my HBO subscription. JFC was the only reason I bothered with it. The problem with JFC is that the majority of the populace doesn't care to actually think, especially while watching television. Any shows dealing with any religious or mythological themes or something resembling "real life" in its grittiest, most insane aspects are almost guaranteed to be cancelled. I'm disappointed, but not surprised at HBO's decision.
- Xanadude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Er... how does that explain the success of "The Wire?" Maybe your elitism is misplaced.
- reeder, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4Someone is trying to bury this digg! Comments too!
Assholes! - JFCWatcher1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Save John from Cincinnati. This is one of the best shows out there. HBO has their head in the sand if they don't bring this show back
- mialove, on 10/10/2007, -4/+70001111s Awesome love this show!!! I need to hear his fathers' words.
- spectagirl, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6This show is fantastic. Some of us enjoy entertainment that engages and challenges us. Oh why HBO, why cancel?
- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Eh I don't know who just dug you all down but +1 to put you back up. Bring back JFC!
- DwindleFlip, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6I loved John from Cincinnati. It was brilliantly told, in a way that most audiences probably cant handle. It is vague, ambiguous yet complex and intelligent. It is a dam shame that HBO can not stand behind such a well crafted show. HBO's recent change of leadership has clearly ruined HBO. Bring back John from Cincinnati HBO, you cowards.
- Aidge, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Carnivale... Deadwood... now John From Cincinatti. Anything that challenges its viewers to think gets terminated too soon. I'm very disappointed in HBO right now... and for the viewers who lack the patience and brain cells to try to put the pieces together before giving up on such an amazing show.
- littlemerwhore, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0IF HBO DOESN'T RENEW THE SHOW I'M GOING TO CRASH THE STOCK MARKET AGAIN!!!
littlemerwhore.blogspot.com - jmaker201, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6My god, what is it with HBO and Milch? Deadwood was incredible, and so was JFC. Why in the hell is this canceled? HBO, you are horrible for canceling great works of art. Bring back JFC. Did this not work for Jericho?
- Battleloser, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Do you think if we sent a couple tons of nuts to the HBO headquarters they'd reconsider?
- shoryuken, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3I guess some people are zeroes and some people are ones. Thanks for nothing HBO *****, at least subscriptions to eztv are free.
- hopeful1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Renew, in the name of Twin Peaks and all things holy!!!
- fieldy32, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6John From Cincinnati was the greatest show on TV... now HBO has cancelled yet another amazing show. Man, HBO blows donkey dick. At least John's not the only thing being cancelled; so is my HBO subscription.
- trishah, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6I am working to set up an account with an environmentally friendly printer in California who will make monad postcards and even stamp and mail them. The accountant is talking with the CEO now. When I know more I'll let you know where to send your donations. What I am hoping is that we can collect money up to a certain date and them turn whatever is collected into lots and lots of cards.
This effort is being supported by http://www.TheSnugHarborMotel.com under the "Save JFC" thread.
I'll keep you informed... - realadxm, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Get back in the game HBO !
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ck2ZW-NfZ84 - ksarynnej, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5See god HBO. Put the best show on television back on!
- mtlb, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I thought this was the save Seinfeld thread.
- fodder0, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5yea, cancel it, really dont enjoy the show much at all
- HayBag, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4Well to all that can't seem to grasp the concept of this completely awesome show, I here Rosie is about to break out the old turkey baster and give another go live on TV. HBO You BLOW CHUNKS
- jessdc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5 HBO has just proved that it will lower it's standards to the rest of television and spoon feed the audience ... are they going to replace it with "supernanny uncut" or "the bachelor, omaha" or "law and order, pittsburgh"- they might as well give us what all of the other channels are since they aren't willing to take any risks anymore. I'm cancelling my subsdcription
- mothermayhem, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Bite me HBO!!! The only reason I subscribed to your stupid package was for the chance to see Carnivale. RIIIIIIIIIGHT...Canceled. Deadwood...canceled...Rome... canceled. John From Cincinnati...canceled. Wake up and listen to what the people are screaming.
QUIT IT WITH THE FRIGGING CANCELATIONS!!!!!! These were all great shows!!!- stvspl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2YEP and yet entourage is still on
- 7Sinny7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Talk about unwatchable...
- stvspl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2YEP and yet entourage is still on
- kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4*lame* watch david duchovny and californication - you see tatas.
- digitaltygrrr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Shows like JFC are the whole reason that I watch HBO. I don't particularly care for all of the movies but the original series are great. I can't believe that HBO has canceled some really good shows (Rome, Deadwood, now JFC). I'm not the kind of person that can watch American Idol or Dare Me to Eat a Bug (or whatever the hell that show is). I just hope that HBO isn't looking for something like that.
- esbern1, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6people actually like this *****? you like watching a bunch of douche bag surfers and some idiot angel? i mean seriously, one of the episodes (or maybe all, i couldn't watch any more) had AL BUNDY MONOLOGUING TO PARROTS!
- vato1man, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3Well it was probably just a little too deep for you. Better you stick to comic books.
- Battleloser, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The parrots were vessels of communication with his wife >=(
- mmslayer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Send them Surf Wax - lots and lots of Surf Wax
- MercedRocks, on 10/10/2007, -7/+7Loved Carnivale and love Deadwood, but John from Cincinattis sucked big, big balls....too weird and didnt make any sense, that and they actually made me hate "Al Bundy"(Neil Harris?)....
Sucks too, lived in Imperial Beach where it's filmed for like 3 years.- Battleloser, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6It made perfect sense, it's just that the pieces were left detached so the viewer could put them together themselves.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ed O'Neill = Al Bundy
- jcm267, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Al Bundy is the greatest character ever.

- vato1man, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4John was the best and most intriguing show that I have watched on HBO. Yes it was confusing but then how much do you discuss a program that answers all of its questions. This show opened up ones imagination and forced one to try and interpret the writer’s direction. It is the only show that I always watched at least twice and every time on the second viewing I got more out of it. HBO….bad decision. Bring John back!!!
- Battleloser, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I was the same way, I had to watch it at least twice just to pick up everything that was happening in the episode.
- djfuzzy84, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6this show sucked. if anything save Lucky Louie!
- g30ff, on 10/10/2007, -6/+5Thank god. Put it out if its misery and give something worthwhile a chance.
- CubanSteel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Yeah. Like Carnivale. Oh, that's canceled too? How about Deadwood? If those stupid bastards at HBO think they're gonna strike Sopranos Gold with EVERY series, then they're already doomed. "Something worthwhile" might be the show you end up loving that gets canceled.
- Sophmom, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6HBO is a network that has lost its grip on the cutting edge, lost the nerve to stay with a show and honor the faithful who didn't turn off our televisions when the Sopranos went black. We trusted them and we stuck with Milch's gritty multi-media substantive feast of literary puzzle for modern media as it extends inextricably into the internet, this different kind of love story. It was a ride the likes of which has never come to television before.
- jcm267, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The problem with HBO is that other networks are taking more chances on edgy shows. 24 would've been an HBO show if it has been released in 1998. Same goes for Lost.
- grungegbunny, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4John from cin.. my critique.
I enjoy the show but I admit I liked Deadwood, that has alot of the same cast, more so. That young surfer kid cannot.. and I mean cannot act! I feel like I keep waiting for this end that is near to finally happen so we can get on with whats supposed to be going on in the first place. What do these characters do for a living? It seems like they all have nothing to do but idle around this hotel and waste time to see what happens next.. who's paying the power bills? I'm not saying cancel the show, but I can definitely see room for improvement. - Dysarthria, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4Wow this show sucked.
Tried to watch it 3 or 4 times. Couldn't get past lame characters nobody could care about, or Rebecca De Mornay shrieking "*****" every 2 minutes.
Unwatchable, pulling the plug this late was better than it deserved. - deadbaby, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4I don't blame them. I tried to watch it a couple times and I thought it was very hard to watch. It felt like a bunch of random scenes tacked together that had little or nothing to do with each other. Classic example of a show trying too hard to be eccentric and forgetting to cover the basics of good story telling. I'm not going to hate on anyone who likes it but let's face it: a show like this can't survive for long even under the best circumstances. There's just not enough of an audience.
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Agreed. I gave it 4 episodes then gave up. If someone were to explain to me what they're trying to say or do in this show i might join in the fight for it but I just can't bring myself to argue in favor of it from what i've seen so far.
- Franqui, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4JFC does not meet HBO standards, take it off and make room for a worthy show!
- jcm267, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Like what?
- CubanSteel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Your "worthy show" will be the next thing to get axed. Don't you get it? Or should we just all be ok with another CSI? CSI: Imperial Beach? lol
- Battleloser, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Alot of people obviously don't get it, and I admit, when I first started watching Deadwood I had a hell of a time understanding what the hell anyone was saying. It was kind of like re-learning the English language, and it definetly took some time. Deadwood, by comparison was relatively simple plot and character wise though, JFC was not. I'd bet that's the reason the show is disliked by so many.
I've been sad when shows were canceled in the past, this is different though. I feel like a 6 year old who just flushed his favourite action figure down the toilet.- shoryuken, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I know how you feel man, there really was something about this show which is hard to define, and I guess therefore hard to sell to the masses
- littlemerwhore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4See God, HBO.
Don't go killin' all the bees. - amdahlj, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2HBO canceled Battlestar Galactica? HOW!?!??!
