We'll Halo there: 'Cold Storage' map free on July 7

joystiq.com — ungie's Luke Smith has announced via Bungie.net that "Cold Storage," a chilly new multiplayer map for everybody's favorite cyborg shoot-em-up, will be downloadable -- for free -- from the Xbox Live Marketplace beginning Monday Bungie Day, July 7.

LimeParrot, on 07/04/2008, -4/+9Kudos to Bungie for not charging for it, but it's not completely "free" (to which the title alludes). It's playable in the playlists which require the Legendary map pack, which I don't have (too poor!) So I won't be able to play it =(

And the maps are only for-pay when they first come out; after a few months, they're released for free, and become integrated into the normal map rotation.

They also said the blastacular pack for Halo 2 would never become free and a while after they were released, they said they would be free in July of 2007.

LMN8R, on 07/04/2008, -3/+1After buying the PC version of Call of Duty 4 and seeing the four maps that more than a million suckers paid $10 for on 360, I have to say that I'm happy I never fell for such ridiculous *****.

Really? $10 for Killbox, Chinatown, and whatever other maps? Not that they're all terrible maps (only one of them really is), but they're nothing that the talented map making community couldn't easily come up with on their own.

Good to see that console games are finally getting free content - the bonus pack for Vegas 2, this map for Halo - hopefully people stop wasting their money on this ***** altogether.

While I agree all the halo maps are overpriced when you have to pay for them (I still pay for them...), you can't complain too much when you can just wait a couple months and get them for nothing.

The money is not the issue, I have a problem paying for recycled maps. So now 4 of the 5 "new" maps are recycled from Halo and Halo 2. Release some NEW content and I might be willing to pay for it....or just wait long enough and it will be free anyway. Remember kids, not all of our XBL accounts use Mommy and Daddy's Credit Card.

illustrick, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3i love halo, but lately, it has been sucking hardcore, it feels like people are trying to cheat more, and the net code is garbage as hell, i have to agree that i like COD4 better, and it pains me to say that, cause i am all about halo, i have the legendary helmet and everything. but i keep on getting bridged in RBTB, which is *****, and getting matched with a team of all 50s. i mean, i know i am not the best, but i dont suck either.

a) Halo is not a shoot-em-up, it's a first person shooter or FPS.
b) Everybody's favorite? Other cyborg FPS games are Crysis, Deus Ex, System Shock 2 and probably some I can't remember. All of these have fans so no exaggerating please.

P.S.: Bungie, not Ungie. And you weren't funny or witty with "We'll Halo there"
